It was a full flight to YVR. There were only a few open seats, one of them being the middle next to me. The door was closed, and we started to pushback right at our scheduled to departure time of 4:48pm. The pilot’s requested runway 26 for “operational reasons”. It was a quick taxi to runway 26, where we had to hold short for a few arriving aircraft. After a DL A321 arrived from DTW, we taxied on to runway 26 and took off. We climbed up to 36,000ft. The CA said that he was anticipating a smooth flight up to YVR. The sun started to set, as the Flight Attendants came through with the service.

American 2664 contact departure

¬

30 minutes prior to landing the CA announced we had started our descent into an overcast Vancouver. There were a few bumps during the descent. We touched down on runway 8L at 8:02pm, and arrived at gate E78 a few minutes later.

Pulling into the gate, next to an AC A320 to SFO

After landing I needed to go through immigration, before I could check in with CX for the flight to JFK. There was a line, as there were several international arrivals ahead of us. Once I was through, I headed to the departures area, to get my boarding pass. The airport was busy. There was my flight to JFK, a DL flight to ATL, a few flights to Mexico as well as flights to Australia, Asia and India.

Once I had my boarding pass, I went through security. After getting some dinner, I went to my gate to wait for boarding. Boarding was supposed to begin at 10:15pm. At 10:25pm, they announced the start of boarding. Boarding was fairly quick. Flight Attendants came through with a menu of dinner choices. Once everyone was onboard, the CA made an announcement about the details of the flight. After this the door was closed. A DL 737-900 pushed behind us. Once they started their taxi, we began our push. With the engines started, we began our taxi to 8R.

Taxing to 8R

Shortly after takeoff the flight attendants came through with drinks, followed by meals and then another drink service. The flight attendants seemed rushed trying to get the service done so people could sleep, since it was a short flight. They were all very friendly though. About 1 hour and 15 minutes into the flight, the meal trays were collected. A few minutes later the lights were turned down. It was an uneventful flight over to JFK.
Climbing out of YVR

Sun starting to come up

Getting closer to NY

As the sun started to come up, we began our descent into JFK. The CA made an announcement welcoming us to NY, what the weather was and the time difference between YVR and HKG. We arrived from the north on the Kingston(IGN)1 arrival. We over flew Kennedy, before making a right turn onto the downwind for 4R.

Final for 4R

Touchdown

We taxied on taxiway FB crossed 4L and 31R which was closed for construction, and then taxied to terminal 8. After deplaning, I headed to immigration. It was a long line, as there were several international arrivals around the same time from South America.

I had a few hours before my flight back to PHX was leaving. After taking the AirTrain to Terminal 4, I checked in with DL. Then i went through security and headed to my gate. The flight was on a 757. In November, DL is switching JFK-LAX to all 767-300s. Today’s flight was completely full. They started boarding about 40 minutes prior to departure.

Boarding

Taxing to 22R

We slowly taxied around to 22R. We were # 4 for takeoff behind 2 DL 717s, a DL739 and a DL A319. Once we were in the air, we made a right turn towards the Robbinsville (RBV) VOR and climbed up to 36,000ft.
Taking off 22R

About 30 minutes after takeoff, the flight attendants came through the cabin with drinks and two “meal” options. I got the fruit.

It was a smooth, and uneventful flight across the country to Los Angeles.

The CA announced our descent into LAX. He said that we were descending through FL290 and were about 90nm from the airport. He mentioned that ATC had put a speed restriction on us, so it may take a little longer then usual. He also said that due to some weather, we may encounter some turbulence during the descent.

Arriving at gate 35

N711ZX at gate 35. It had several hours on the ground in LA, before flying the redeye back to JFK

It was a short layover. By the time I got to my next gate, they were starting boarding. It was a full flight. Everyone was onboard, and we were ready to go 15 minutes early. The CA came out of the cockpit, and made his announcement. He mentioned they had just flown in from PHX, and it was a nice day. After this the door was closed, and we pushed back 5 minutes early.

Shortly after takeoff, the flight attendants came through with drinks and Biscoff cookies or a granola bar. It was a quick flight, and before long we were descending into PHX.

Descending into PHX

Final 25L

Touchdown

We touched down on 25L at 4:44pm. After a quick taxi across 25R, we parked at gate F4 a few minutes later. Wrapping up my almost exactly 24-hour travel day. It was a fun day of flying. I enjoyed CX. It was a really good flight, and I am glad I got the opportunity to fly them on the YVR-JFK flight before it ends in the spring.
