For the winter break, I was going to Cartagena, Colombia. When we were looking at flights, the options for flights included either a connection in ATL or MIA. Since several people in my family would be flying from JFK, we decided to just fly down the night before. Then the next morning fly nonstop from JFK to CTG.

Syracuse, NY (SYR) – New York, NY (JFK)
Scheduled Departure Time- 6:50pm
Actual Departure Time- 6:53pm
Scheduled Arrival Time- 8:37pm
Actual Arrival Time- 7:36pm
This was my first time flying on Christmas Eve/Day. So, I was not sure if the airport would be busy. When I got to the airport in SYR, it was the least busy I had ever seen it. There was no one checking in at the DL counter, and only a few people at security. Our flight was the last DL flight of the night. There were only about 15 people on our flight. There weren’t any UA flights. So, it was empty on our side of the airport. The plane arrived in SYR from JFK, 1 hour and 30 minutes before our scheduled departure time. Since it was such a light flight, boarding started about 15 minutes later then normal. Everyone boarded quickly. The crew were friendly, and played Christmas music over the PA during boarding. Eventually the door was closed, and we pushed back 10 minutes early.

Once the engines were started, we quickly taxied to runway 28. It only took a few minutes to get to the runway. We taxied onto the runway and started our takeoff roll. Within a few seconds we were in the air. After turning to the southeast, we climbed to FL210. The flight attendants made an announcement that due to the short flight, they would not have time to do a service. The flight passed quick, and before long we were descending into JFK.

Runway 31L and 31R, were in use at JFK. We flew just to the west of JFK, before heading out over the water. Eventually we turned back in towards the airport. We made a firm touchdown on 31L, and quickly exited the runway.

Turning on to final runway 31L
After a 10 minute taxi, we were at the gate. We then went down to get our bags. It took almost 45 minutes for our bags to come out. Once we finally had them, we went to the hotel we were staying at right near JFK. The next morning, we took a 6:30am shuttle to JFK. Unlike the previous night, the airport was busy and lines were long.

New York, NY (JFK) – Cartagena, CO (CTG)
Scheduled Departure Time- 9:14am
Actual Departure Time- 9:18am
Scheduled Arrival Time- 2:21pm
Actual Arrival Time- 1:36pm
4 hours 18 minutes
The door was closed 15 minutes early. A few minutes later we pushed back, and the engines were started.
It was a really quick taxi to runway 4L. There was only one plane that was ahead of us. By the time we got to the end, it was our turn. We quickly taxied onto 4L, and took off. Once we were in the air, we made the right turn. Eventually turning to the southeast. We headed out over the water and climbed up to 34,000ft.

Climbing out of JFK
About 20 minutes after takeoff, the flight attendants came through with drinks and snacks. After this, customs forms were handed out. Once we were over the water, the WI-FI or TV didn’t work. Without either, the flight passed by slowly. Throughout the flight, drinks and snacks were handed out. Eventually we were starting out descent.

N715JB was going right back to JFK
After a week in Colombia, it was time to head back. We took a shuttle from our hotel at 12pm. We got to the airport, about 12:30pm. The check in area of the airport was busy, and the lines at security were long as well. By the time we got to the gate, there was over an hour before boarding was scheduled to begin. About 15 minutes later, I received a notification that the flight was delayed until 5:00pm. Our plane had already landed, and people from the inbound flight were deplaning. Eventually an announcement was made. Apparently, the captain had called in sick at the last minute. Obviously being a small outstation, they did not have any extra pilots. They were flying in another pilot from FLL, to work our flight up to JFK. The flight attendants were doing a turn, so they ended up having to wait on the plane in CTG for 3 hours.

Cartagena, CO (CTG) – New York, NY (JFK)
Scheduled Departure Time- 3:21pm
Actual Departure Time- 5:18pm
Scheduled Arrival Time- 8:18pm
Actual Arrival Time- 9:35pm
4 hours 17 minutes
The inbound FLL flight was delayed. It did not land until 4:30pm. The pilot quickly got off, and checked in with the gate agents. Then headed out to our plane. A few minutes later, they started boarding our flight.
It is always impressive boarding, when there is not a jetway.
Boarding was completed through the front and aft doors. It was rushed, and multiple announcements were made for people to take their seats so we could depart. Once everyone was finally seated, the door was closed. A few minutes later we pushed back, and the engines were started. We taxied a short distance and then came to a stop. We had to wait for a plane to land. Once they had vacated the runway, we back taxied for a departure to the north. When we reached the end of the runway, we had to hold short for an A320 from BOG that was on final. After that we took off, 2 hours late.

Climbing up to 32,000 ft
After we leveled off, the flight attendants came through with drinks and snacks. By the time the service was done, the sun was setting.
By the time it was dark out, we were nearing Florida. At this point the TV and Wi-Fi started to work. It was an uneventful rest of the flight up the east coast, towards JFK.
About 20 minutes before landing, we began our descent into JFK. We descended via the CAMRN4 arrival. Eventually we followed an AA 757 from DFW, to runway 31R.
Over the numbers
We taxied into the ramp and came to a stop. There was still a plane at our gate. After waiting for about 10 minutes, they switch us to another gate. A few minutes later, we pulled into gate 28.

There weren’t any flights to SYR leaving that night. Even if there were we would have missed the flight, because of the delay leaving CTG. We ended up staying at the same hotel, we had stayed at a week prior. The next morning we were back at JFK, for a DL flight to SYR.

New York, NY (JFK) – Syracuse, NY (SYR)
Scheduled Departure Time- 10:05am
Actual Departure Time- 12:47pm
Scheduled Arrival Time- 11:37am
Actual Arrival Time- 1:31pm
The plane landed from BWI. Once everyone had deplaned, I got a notification the flight was delayed until 11:00am. An announcement was made that our gate had been changed. At the new gate, the captain made an announcement. She said that the plane we were on had a maintenance issue earlier in the morning. They wanted to keep the plane at JFK for some tests, and they gave us a new plane. However they did not have any spares, so we had to wait for a plane coming from IAD. It had yet to takeoff from Dulles. Our departure time was update to 12:10pm, then 12:30pm.

As soon as everyone had deplaned, boarding started
Everyone boarded quickly, and a few minutes later the door was closed. Eventually we pushed back and taxied to runway 22R.
Holding short 22R
Taking off 22R, the A320 holding short is the same plane I flew into JFK from CTG the night before. It had just landed from NAS.
Climbing out of JFK
Just like on the flight to JFK, there was not any service done on this flight. It was quick flight, and before long we were descending into SYR.

The flights on the way down were decent. On the return both flights had delays. I thought DL handled the delay much better. They gave us continuous updates, as well as some miles for the delay. The only problem with DL on the SYR-JFK flights, is the lack of service. On the same 45 minute flight, B6 gives out snacks and drinks. Especially on the flight down, there were so few people on the plane. Neither of the flight attendants came though at all during the flight. As far as the delay goes JetBlue only made the one announcement at the airport explaining the situation. They also said we would get a credit to your travel bank for the delay, and to call after we landed if it wasn’t posted. After a few days, I called JetBlue. I was told that, they do not offer compensation on flights delayed 2 hours, or if it is a crew related issue. Also both of the planes we were on for B6, had the old interior. As soon as you were over the water, the TV’s stopped working along with the WI-FI. On a 4 hour flight, it can make for a boring flight. The cabins on the old A320s are dated. I haven't flown on one of the A320s, with the updated interior yet. I look forward to seeing the new interior on the A320s.
