Phoenix - New York on American 757 & 737

Sat Apr 25, 2020 10:29 pm

At the end of the semester, I was going home for the break. Before I went home for a few weeks, I was going to go to New York City for a few days. When I was looking at flights, I saw AA had a flight to JFK with a connection at SAN. One of the flights was on one of my favorite planes, the 757. This would be my shortest flight on the 757. The flight was leaving in the morning, so I got a Lyft to the airport around 7am. The airport was busy that morning, and there was a line to drop my bag. After this I headed up to my gate.

Boarding started at 8:00am. Everyone was on the plane, and ready to go by 8:30am. After sitting for 10 minutes the door was closed, and we started to push back a few minutes later.

We followed two WN 737s to runway 7L. After holding in position for a few planes to cross the active runway, we began our takeoff roll

We departed to the east, before turning south and then back to the west. We climbed up to FL280, for a few minutes. We then descended down to FL260, for the short rest of the time we were at cruise.

As soon as we leveled off, the flight attendants came through with drinks and snacks. It was a very short flight. By the time the service was done, we were starting the descent into SAN

A few minutes before departure, the captain announced the details of our flight across the country to JFK. Once the door was closed, we pushed back and the engines were started. A few minutes later, we started to taxi, and followed a DL 757-300 going to ATL to runway 27.

We initially climbed up to 37,000ft. Once we leveled off, the flight attendants came through with the first service. It was a smooth flight across the country. About an hour before landing, the flight attendants came through with drinks and snacks again. This plane had TV’s, and Wi-Fi, so the flight went by fairly quickly.

After spending a few days in New York City, I was flying home for a few weeks. Shortly before leaving for the airport, I got a notification on my phone that my flight was delayed. I was not able to switch my flight on the app. After quick call to jetBlue, I was able to get my flight switched to the same flights the next day. My flight was scheduled to depart at 7:30pm. I took a Lyft to the airport, around 5pm.

At the next gate, an announcement was made. Our original flight crew had been delayed, and timed out in another city. They had called 2 flight attendants who were on reserve. They said they had 2 hours to get to the airport. By the time they showed up, we only ended up being delayed a little over an hour.

Once boarding was completed, we pushed back. There were not any other planes taxing, so it was a quick taxi to 22R. After takeoff, we climbed up to 30,000 feet for the short flight to SYR.

This flight was similar to the first flight. The flight attendants came through with soda, water or coffee and blue chips. A few minutes later, we started our descent. We flew straight in, and landed on runway 28 at 1:00am.
