Hooray I’m Flying Again!

With my last flights way back in November 2019, and a failed attempt in November 2020 when a worker at a pizza bar told a big lie and put Adelaide into lockdown the day before I was due to go to Alice Springs and fly in a helicopter around the aircraft storage facility there, which had to be cancelled at the last minute.

Then mandatory mask rules came in on airline flights... I can't wear a mask for more than five minutes without wanting to rip it off. That means I can't get my flying fix with the airlines.

Things were looking grim...

Thankfully one of the guys in our model aircraft flying group is a retired Royal Australian Air Force and Cathay Pacific pilot offered me a flight in his DHC-1 Chipmunk which is based at Goolwa airport in country South Australia.

So unlike 2020 where there was no flying, I will get one flight in at least for 2021.

I have flown from Goolwa back in 2008 in a Nanchang CJ-6.

Met up with Steve Nelson, the owner of the aircraft approx 11:30 AM.

For me with a few mobility issues, I was expecting getting in snd out of the aircraft would be harder, but was easier than I expected.

Cockpit is quite a snug fit but comfortable.

Take off was quite sedate (but the grass was a bit bumpy) off a the grass runway.

Cruising altitude is 3000 feet.

Was a bit bumpy in places. I did not mind. Good to feel some turbulence again under my bum.

Flew over the mouth of the river Murray and Hindmarsh Island.
