Have only flown once on an A 320-100 of Air France.
Was nice trip but I wouldn't consider it to be very special as I think this is standerd nowadays.
Have had quite some flights on A321s which are pretty much the same.

Enjoy your trip and maybe you could provide us with a trip report.

Best regards,

I flew Ansett Australia A320 from Brisbane - Sydney two years ago, and aprt from Ansett's dia service, the plane flet pretty good, like a 757-200 or a 737-800. Actualy the 737-800 is nicer!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
Enjoy your flight.

I fly 3 Times with an A 320, one Time from DUS to ALC with LT (320-200), the flight was ok like flying in a 752. Than i fly DUS-CDG-DUS with AF (320-100) you dont notice a diffrent between a -100 and -200 during the Flight. My Opinion: The A 320 is a very good Aircraft, but i like Boeing Planes more, unfortunately i never fly with a 737.

Enjoy your Trip and Post a Report when you are back !!!!

Greetings from Germany

I have flown many flights on the A320 and A319 of HP. I still prefer the Boeings but its really hard to tell the difference, both preform very well and the interiors are almost the same.

I've flown on the A320 twice with America West and once with Swissair. I found all three flights to be just fine. I think the level of comfort you experience depends more on the airline than the aircraft, but it should be a smooth comfortable flight.

I flew a Mexicana A320 a few weeks ago and I couldn't wait to get off!

This plane is ok for short 1 hour trips but for 4 1/2 was almost unbearable. The cabin was rather cramped and takeoff was a little noisy for a new plane. The plane felt flimsy and did not handle turbulence very well. I had much higher expectations for the A320.
I heard some ask how it compares against the 737-200. Well it is way better than the A320 and in fact, I'd rather fly a Yak-42 instead of the A320.
I've heard great things about this aircraft prior to the trip. I was very disappointed.  Sad

I truly love the A320 as I prefer to work this aircraft when possible. I constantly get positive comments about the A320 from many passengers on comfort and how spacious the cabin is for a single aisle aircraft.
try it you will like it?

my opinion the A32x series is not so quiet to compare the 737 actually i havent fly on NG737 and i think it has smoother sound engines than OG.if so the Airbus is noisier at least on takeoff.well tell us how it was never know before u try  Wink/being sarcastic

The A320 is a great plane. In its CFM56 form, it has a very characteristic Airbus buzz, and a great whoosh spool up on takeoff. You'll notice the cabin pitch up on takeoff. All these factors just make takeoff that extra bit fun.

I haven't flown in a 757, but under normal domestic conditions in Australia, the A320 is probably the most spritely performer apart from the 763.

It's not terribly noisy, and the seats are wider than those in a 747. Visit the cockpit, you'll appreciate the technology, it is a visual masterpiece.

Cheers,

Justin

BTW: Is there any difference in noise between the V2500 and CFM56 powered A320s?

I just flew on an A320 yesterday (see my trip report) and it's a good airplane- it sounds kinda funny inside, sort of a high whining noise, but it was comfortable enough on the 5-hour flight. I do agree with BA747-436 though- the 737-800 is more comfortable, and I prefer it above the 'bus.

I can't say that I've flown on an A320, but I have flown on an A321 and they a pretty much the same thing, just different sizes. It was comfortable and pretty spacious inside. The cabin was a little noisier than I expected, but not bad. Anyway, it was a good experience and enjoy your trip!

Well, you asked for no more replies, but oh well.

I just thought I'd add that the A320 is the quietest plane I have ever flown on- quieter than 735, 733 etc.

It is about as quiet as I remember my DC-10 flights...

I love United's A320s.

I have flown with the A320 once, on Air Jamaica from POS to KIN with a stop in BGI. The plane is quite comfortable and smooth in flight. The engines do have this unusual hum on the ground and in cruise which is reminiscent of kitchen appliances. The best part about it was the IFE, a first for me flying to Jamaica because the only other operator on the route at the time (and once again the sole operator), BWIA, uses the MD83 which stops twice and has no IFE. All the same, the island views compensate for that.

A320 is a great plane.

I have flown ever airbus type in swissair's fleet as well as a United A320. I can tell you it all depends on the airline. Finnair should be very nice. Swissair is great while United is ... well.... no comment

I've been on the A320 7 times with Air Nippon and Northwest, on the Okinawa-Miyako(Air Nippon)flights and the Memphis-Seattle(Northwest) flights. The A320 is an excellent plane. Very comfortable. I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience.

I've flown 5 segments on A320's on NWA and on three of those segments the plane was pulled from service for maintenance reasons upon our arrival in MSP. The first time as we were taxiing at MDW for departure it sounded as if someone was in the cargo hold tossing luggage up in the air and dropping letting it fall on the floor. During the takeoff roll the noise subsided somewhat but on taxiing after landing in MSP it picked up again.

The second time it happened I could not really notice anything wrong with the planes performance.

The third time was the most interesting. After lifting off from MDW the flaps were being raised and everyone heard a loud grinding noise that sounded kinded of like an air ratchet slipping off a tightened bolt, somewhat like a combination of a whine and a grinding noise. The worst part was that after departing MDW aircraft have to level off fairly low for noise procedures and then make a sharp turn. So with the engine thrust being reduced to level off and the turn and the grinding, a lot of people freaked.

The grinding noise stopped and the flaps were raised completely and flight continued and upon our arrival into MSP the flaps were lowered along with the same grinding sound. Once the flaps were in position the grinding stopped.

For the above reasons, I do somewhat dread the A320 although its safety record is good.

I am going to heat some people (not a flame, just a, ya know, tellin off Big grin).

The A320 is an excellent aircraft, I have flown on it 6 times, and all have been great flights (although i put that down to the airline and weather). I can never remember hearing the engine noise, except on takeoff. It is quite stable through turbulence (we flew into MAN on an Airworld A320 on very windy day, and i have to say it was pretty damn comfortable for 22kt crosswind).

Right now for the "heat" part. He asked for your experiences on the A320, not how they compare to Boeing Aircraft which is the general feeling i get from this topic. Sorry just had to put that in because after reading the poll on the frontpage i have got sick and tired of people trying to rate Airbus and Boeing against each other!

The A320 is a great aircraft, modern, roomy and very quiet (although i quite like noisy aircraft).

Shall i make a comparison to a 737?

Nah!

Regards, Dan

I flew the A320 for the first time in 1990, from Munich to London/Heathrow on British Airways. My second A
320 experience was on Air Inter (now Air France) on
a short hop to Orly Airport from Strasbourg. I also
flew the A320 on United Airlines from New York/LGA
to Los Angeles, operating as a one stop flight via
ORD. My most recent A320 flight was on Swissair,
from London/Heathrow to Geneva.

I like the large airplane feel of the A320 which you
don't seem to get on the 737, however, the 737
is a sexier airplane and I am not partial to either
one. I fly mostly on Continental and they have no
A320 and that suits me fine.

sorry guys but the A320 family are far superior to the 737s and I have been on enough A320 family planes to qualify to make such a statement.

A320: BA, LH, AN, UA
A321: AF, LH, AY
A319: AF

However, as I have yet to fly a 737NG I can't compare it to them, only to 737-100 to 500.

Enjoy your flight. The Finnair A320 series aircraft are beautifully appointed. I flew an A321 BRU-HEL a few weeks ago (see trip report leg 1) and it was superb.

Quieter than a 737-300 inside!!! The size of the seats is far overrated IMO. The engines will make that signature whirring UFO sound if the plane is V2500 powered. You'll enjoy it.

I tend to agree with Aussie, my experience comes from 46 Airbus narrowbody (LH 320 family is my average trip) vs 33 737 (all generations).
Yes it can depend on the operator and yes, on the 320 you hear more strange noises like engines, flaps and gear, and in the beginning, it had a bit of a bad rep also due to those early crashes, but from the comfort and cabin design it is superior, even to the 737NG. Same goes for cockpit spaciousness.
I still remember how excited I was about my very first A320 flight in 1995, of course by now the sensation has faded a bit, unless it's a new carrier, it's always interesting to compare the same type at different operators and on different routes.

Well I flew from Columbus, Ohio to Los Angeles, California on a non-stop flight with America West Airlines and we flew in their Airbus A320 jet out there. Actually I love this aircraft cause it's not too big, or not too small. It's perfect and to tell you the truth, I actually am starting to like the Airbus jets better then the Boeing's. Although, both are very similar in my eyes. The Airbus A320 is pretty comfortable, of course this all depends on where you're sitting in the aircraft. If you're in coach class, naturally it's not gonna be as comfortable as business or 1st class. But I have no choice, I always go for coach class seats cause these are the cheapest and they're pretty comfortable overall. Well to break it down, the Airbus A320 is a great aircraft and it's pretty comfortable to fly in. Actually, it doesn't differ too much from any other medium-range aircraft.
