Summer classes ended and it was time for me come home and meet my family .....
On the 30th of June
SR 127 nonstop service from BOS-ZRH
The departure time was 645pm ....i was literally the last person to board the plane since i was waiting for a friend at the gate to exchange a few things.... sadly i couldnt get a window seat but i did get the aisle seat next to the window.....anyhow for those of you who were in boston on that day would know about the thunderstorm...... and guess what our flight just like all others at Logan couldnt take off until the skies had cleared away ..... The skies cleared and our A330-200 waited for its turn to take-off. At logan i saw aircraft of most US carriers ....internationals were a BA 742, Alitalia 767-300, another Swissair A330 arrived, Sabena A330, Icelandair 757, Airfrance 767 i think.... a couple more possibly .... maybe lufthansa. When we finally got clearance to takeoff our engines roared with all their might ..... the A330-200 laden with a near full load of pax and fuel took 35 seconds to take to the air. Our flight took off about 90 mins late and the captain mentioned that they would fly at max speed to make up for it. My onward flight from ZRH was only 2 hours after the scheduled arrival of this one but i didnt worry much as i knew if i missed it, SR would surely take care of me. We were served dinner shortly afterwards....i ate veil with pasta which was quite tastly. I really liked the cracker like appetizers they serve after boarding though. The PTV were the usual size and offered a few movies, games(not as good as VS) and varios info about our flight. We reached about 640 to 650mph over the atlantic. Much to my delight i was also granted permission to go to the cockpit. One very curtious steward escorted me to the cockpit and i must say what i saw was amazing(for the lack of a better word)!
For those of you who have seen one of a A330 would agree im sure......everything atleast seemed so hightech...all digital displays ..... very impressive layout and then ofcourse that cool looking joystick. I had a nice conversation with the pilot and i asked him if it were true that SR is nearing backruptcy. He said well yes that is a fact primarily because of bad investments in other airlines (sabena and a number of french ones). He told me he also flew the A320 and may switch to the A340-600 when they enter service with SR. What was fantastic about the cockpit is how quite it is ....much much quiter then the rest of the plane. The nose just pierces through the air ....... i hardly felt that i was cruising at over 600mph. Before landing in ZRH we were served with breakfast which apart from the fantastic crosooo'n(spell) was a bit dissapointing .... no eggs like EK or even PK! We landed on picture perfect zurich......dam the scenery is just breathtaking. We parked at A81 next to several other SR planes. When i walked almost all the way to the duty free i realised i had forgotten my cell phone in the pocket of the seat. I went back only to find that the gates had been closed. One airport staff person went to look inside the plane only to return empty handed. He told me to go to lost and found. In order to get theer i had to pass immigration and walk all the way to the arrivals lounge. By the time i reported at the lost and found ....my next flight to KHI was almost ready to close gates. My name was being announced when i reached there ....once again the last person to board!! I was just concerned for all my contacts that were stored in my phone...the phone itelf is insured.
Our flight from ZRH to KHI SR 394 was also an A330-200 and the flight was via DXB. The flight was full...atleast biz and economy were ....didnt see first. At Zurich i saw several SR A330-200 a few MD-11 and A320/321, Delta 767-300, AA unsure just saw the tail , Malaysian 777, Singapore 744, Srilankan A330-200,Balair 767-300, KLM 737 and many small regional planes. There was also this B747 ...... in one of those special paint schemes i couldnt read what it said i didnt see it until see started rotating....maybe Qantas. On our way to DXB we flew over bulgaria, caspian sea and then turkey....we overflew both Istanbul and Ankara....the former was huge!... then over Iran and finally UAE. Food was good again .... turkey with spagetti .... it was well cooked. Desert was chocolate mousee but it tasted more like coffee but it was non the less very good. I was told by the person sitting next to me that they also served icecream during the only 45 mins that i slept!! We landed in DXB behind schedule as we departed ZRH late. The KHI bound pax had to stay onboard for the shortened transit time. About half the pax on the plane left at Dubai but the ones who left were soon replaced by people travelling from DXB to KHI as SR enjoys fifth freedom on this route. We were at DXB during evening time ...not their busiest time like late night when all gates are occupied with a/c from all over the globe. I saw a Saudi B777 and a MD90, Qatar Airways A320, KLM 747 at a distance, Kuwait airways A300, EK A330 and 772 and Airindia A310. We rotated rather quicky for the short hop to KHI. We were served with snacks and drinks .....chatted to the guy next to ...bought something from the onboard duty free....and before i knew it ..... we were about to land. We landed very smoothly on a cloudy KHI night 30 mins behind schedule. We taxied towards the international terminal and on our way i saw several PIA B742 that are grounded.... much to my surprise there was a Lufthansa B747-200F at the cargo area.... there was a TU154 in Turan air colors operated by Shaheen Airlines as mentioned by another member of this forum. I also saw a EK 772 and several other PK planes.
All in all i must say that SR remains one of my favourites ......no doubt about that. The connection was very convenient and fast. I would also like to tell my readers that i saw the SR first class when i walked to the cockpit and was it something........pure luxury!!! Its a true swiss quality product..... !!
