Lufthansa Provides Excellent Service

Sun Jul 08, 2001 8:23 pm

Yesterday i flew AMS-BOS, a flight i make frequently.
but due to certain problems i had to abandon American Airlines on this flight and fly with Lufthansa.

Now i must say they provided excellent service.
because we where delayed in AMS i was not gonna make my transfer cause Frankfurt is to large and the distance i had to walk was just to far.
so i already saw my self sitting in frankfurt for hours on end.
But when we reached the tarmack and we all got out of the plane i saw a young female standing next to the stairs with a sign Boston. i said i am going to boston and so i could step on another bus that would take us to the aircraft at once. GREAT service.
we got out exactly under the gate and fortunately where on time.

the flight was in an old 747-200 which is still a great airplane. i managed to get in to the cockpit and found out that the pilots where extremely nice.

overall great flight, i can recommend Lufthansa.
warm regards.

Lufthansa does this very often. Have experienced it myself.
Glad you liked your trip.

LH has to do this at FRA because otherwise a lot of pax would get angry. FRA doesn't really provide smooth connections so this is the only possibility.

I hate Lufthansa, their Fleet and their inflight Service sucks. They have no PTV`s in Economy Class, they have old Planes like the 747-200 or the A 300 or 310, the Cabin Crew is always very unfriendly and the Food in Y is horrible.

AND >>> LUFTHANSA IS A VERY EXPENSIVE AIRLINE !!!
Two Years ago I fly to San Francisco with SN/DL and I pay 811 DEM (380 US $ belive it or not). The same flight with LH costs 2160 DEM, more than double as the SN Price.

Greetings from Germany

Patrick, that didn't sound like a well-founded opinion, though, rather an emotional outburst, but hey, this forum is all about free speech.

Patrick I wonder where you found that price. Was that the day before you wanted to fly ???
Normally LH gets you to SFO for way less money even in summer high season.
I know LH isn't a cheapy but no one forces you to fly with them.

Anyways, you complain about LH's fleet to be old ???
What the heck ?
They have a few older planes but first of all look at the US based airlines and also take a closer look at LH's fleet before you say something about it.

Hi Konstantin and 737-700 !!! (and all others)

OK, i must agree with 737-700, the most US Airlines have much more older Planes in their Fleet.

I booked the SN/DL Flight four Weeks before i started, not one or two Days before !!! I wonder that LH was so expensive, 2160 DM for a Y-Class Flight to SFO is outrageous !!! The same Experience i made last Year. LH´s Fare was about 500 DM above AF`s.

OK, my first Replie was a bit heavy and exaggerate but i made much more positive Experience with SN, DL and AF on inercontinental Flights.

LH is not so bad as i say, it is a very save Airline. Maybe i fly with them again when they have PTV`s.
One advantage on LH Flights: You have german Magazines and Newspapers.

Greetings

Patrick

I'd say that the high fare on Lufti was rather an indicator that the flight was already pretty much sold out, evidence of good capacity and yield management.
Poor SN still had to sell on low price.

Funny Storie:

The Trip with SN to SFO was heavy. Me and a Buddy start at DUS at 12.35 pm and arrive in SFO via BRU and ATL at 2.15 am at Night. We miss the connecting Flight in ATL because my Buddy have some Problems with the Custom Officers there. So we had to take the last Flight from ATL to SFO and this Plane was about 2 Hours late because of heavy Thunderstorms at ATL. When we arrive at SFO we remember that we can`t buy Beer because after 2.00 am it is not allowed to sell alcohol in California. This Problems you don`t have when you fly with LH direct from FRA to SFO, you arrive at 12.15 pm, enough Time to buy Beer.

Greetings

Hehe, lol, that's a nice one !
I also don't like LH not having PTVs but still they are a nice airline to fly with.
Konstantins guess with the high LH fare related to a pretty much sold out plane can be true indeed. I had to pay a pretty high fare on AF in December because the flight was almost full about 6 months in advance. I booked in August.

Patrick > Also don't forget both LH and SN are doing the yield management game. For the SN ticket, you have to change planes in Brussels, which makes it a less desired option and any businessman willing to pay more will avoid it. LHs flight is almost full, so the only availables tickets for direct flights are more expensive, because there always will be people in a hurry willing to pay these last seats.
And your home airline always tends to be more expensive. Lufthansa and Sabena offer very cheap fares out of Amsterdam... USA for eqv 500 DM etc.
While KLM is more expensive for us.
btw I flew Lufthansa about 10 times within Europe and every time the service gets worse; they served nice meals even on AMS-FRA 8 years ago, and now you are lucky if you get a small salad or so on a 2,5 hours flight.

Well here's the question: WHY don't they have PTVs?
Most other major airlines now have them.
Why not them ?

I am not personally a big fan of Lufthansa. They are not bad; it's just that for such a major airline, I expect more. Air France, British Airways, Swissair all provide better service, in my opinion.

Here's my theory as to why LH doesn't have PTV's:

1-Lufthansa is still a carrier that has 3 classes, and all three have pretty decent load factors.

2-Many airlines have closed First class because it was unprofitable with low load factors and more money could be made having only 2 classes, Business and Economy.

3-First class has on certain carriers been taken over by Business class because they offer almost identical amenities on the flight: Menues, Sleeper seats, PTV's etc. yet with a significantly lower price tag.

4-American Airlines has now removed seats in Economy class to create more space, what will the consequence be, that travellers that flew on AA 1st class because of space issues might now save that money and fly economy.

In my opinion, the seperation of the 3 classes should be much more than just better and more food and certainly the price charged demands it!!!

So to sum it up, I beleive they don't have PTV's in Economy as to seperate their service and amenities in their 3 classes.

Might just be complete philosophical BS on my part, but that's what I beleive....

One statement that irrates me a little is the opening one

" Yesterday i flew AMS-BOS, a flight i make frequently.
but due to certain problems i had to abandon American Airlines on this flight and fly with Lufthansa"

to my knowlegde AA does not fly AMS - BOS ..........

A little side note.....I have flown BOS - FRA (742 and 343 )a couple of times mainly LH Business Class and I can confirm the problems with the crew even up front.........not always friendly.........but then again a sudden surprise and you have an excellent crew......
so happend here....
