FF Upgrade Policies Of US Carriers?

Wed Nov 28, 2001 1:05 pm

I am familiar with the various procedures for obtaining upgrades on AA and TWA.

What about Delta, United, Northwest, Continental, America West, US Airways, National, Alaska, or Air Tran?

People on this trip report board seem more up-to-date on this subject.

I fly UA alot (over 140,000 miles this year). I do enjoy the upgrades. How does this happen?

1. Certain fare basis allow you to use FF miles to upgrade
2. Certificates sent to the FF for upgrades (domestic and international).
3. Depending on your level of FF program (25,000, 50,000 or 100,000 miles per yaer) determines how many hours before the flight you can confirm an upgrade. Also, if there is a wait list the higher FF get first choice. Among the high FF it depends on the fare you paid.
4. It really is just luck!!! Dress for sucess!

I have to admit UA has been good about upgrades. It keeps me flying them!
