LAX-OAK, SFO-LAX Quikie

Thu Feb 09, 2006 5:03 pm

This week has been filled with ups and downs. The week prior to this trip report, Some friends had came in from New York City. Out of the 6 people that came, I had a confrontation with 2 of them. Rather not go into full detail on what happened, heres the trip report on the equipment I took up there.

Tuesday Feb 7

239am- I was awaken by my alarm clark. Its soo loud ... sounds like a siren if anything. It also gets me up at 430am on a work-day  Smile. I check my voicemail on the cell phone. Turned on the pc and printed my boarding pass for WN1695 ( LAX-SFO ) & AA1915 ( SFO-LAX ).

My collection of airplanes. Space is a little limited in my room.

345am-After showering, getting dressed, and cleaning up a bit, It was time to head to the airport. Walk 3 blocks to the bus stop.

Waiting for the MTA 232 bus to show up.

403am- I boarded the MTA 232 bus to Sepulveda Blvd & Century Bl

459am- Arrived at Sepulveda & Century. Walked over to terminal 1

503am-Arrived at Terminal 1. It wasnt crowded at the WN Counter. It wasa bit busy at the UsAirways-AmericaWest counter. I proceeded through security and make my way to the Starbucks for my usual venti Java Chip (I wish they would stop changing the name of it ) frappucino.

A few departures

545am-Boarding began for WN Flight 1695 ... N366SW-Boeing 737-3H4. There were maybe about 40 people in Group A with me, and 3 people in Group B, nobodyin Group C

Boarding was quick and easy. Even the co-pilot came through the cabin and greeted everyone on the intercome. The safety announcement was made with the a life-vest & New aircraft safety cards.

We taxiied to Runway 25R on the opposite side of the airport. We were literally flyin down the taxiways on the way there...pretty cool

A nice sunrise from N366SW

612am-We took off from LAX on our way up to Oakland...and yet after flying this segment once too many times, I just reclined my seat and closed my eyes for a bit.

On the downwind to OAK. San Jose is way out there  Smile

703am-We touched down in OAK. There wasnt many people on board ... so deplaning was fast.

710am-I missed the AC Transit 50 to the Coliseum BART station.Instead of waiting for the next one, I decided to catch the AirBART ... which is 25 cents more than AC Transit. The ride wasnt too bad on the air bart. We got to Coliseum BART at about 730am or so.

After deboarding, I got a few pics of the NABI low floor buses that roam the streets in Oakland. NABIs are my favorite buses in all time. They make the shells for their buses in (Budapest ? )Hungary. The shells are shipped to Anniston, Alabama where they are assemblied and delivered. Pretty soon, NABI might be another bus manufacturing in the gutter ( The other one was NeoplanUSA-Lamar,Colorado).

AC Transit 4056 and 4073 ... both of these NABI 40LFW low floors were manufactured in 2003.

804am-Anywho i boarded the BART train to Embarcardero Station. From there, I walked to 1st & Mission to meet my friend Jay from NewJersey.
He wanted me to fly in an American Airlines maddog MD80 back to LAX with him. Since I havent flew American since 3 years old, I went along with the idea.

852am-Instead of catching the BART to SFO Station, we caught SamTrans Route KX to SFO. The bus costs $ 4.00 and makes 3 stops in the airport. We got off at American Airlines terminal.

935am-We proceeded through security and made out way to Gate 62B.

Boarding began at 10am for flight 1915. Our seat assignments were 28D/E on this maddog. I remember my High School teacher used to tell stories on when he used to work at McDonnell Douglas on the MD80 assembly line. He worked on the wing assembly for TWAs maddogs.

1025AM-We pulled back from the gate. Flight time was 56 minutes...to LAX. The engines were so loud on takeoff .... I thought I was gonna loose my hearing.

Cruising at 29,000 feet

What u say ? I can barely hear you

1130am-We landed in LAX on Runway 24R....just in time to catch Northwest Flight 1 ( LAX-NRT-HKG )- Boeing 747-200 to take off from Runway 24L.

Heres an American Eagle 39- 2003 NABI Optare 30LFN low floor bus.

Nice report and pics. It 's a little differnt seeing busand plane pics in the same report, but cool if you like buses.I flew in your seat once on an AAMD-80 from ORD_SJC. Talk about being deaf and having a headache!! Nothing like bringing back old memories.

Fantastic report! I really enjoy your trip reports, they're great! Don't you love day trips!? I haven't done one of those since 2004 when I went to LAX! Keep em' coming! Oh by the way, how long did the Metro 232 take to get to the airport? Does it make a lot of stops along the way?

I enjoyed the report. You like planes and busses? What a unique combination. Just don't ever get caught up in one of those Boeing vs. airBUS threads! Big grin.

i love day trips...it relieves one boredom  Smile

the 232 takes about 60 minutes from my place to LAX. I dont bother going all the way to the LAX transfer center.
