Egypt Air CAI - JFK ( Lots Of Pics And Vid)

Fri Apr 27, 2007 5:10 am

Here is the second part from my report and I will Quote the next line from the first report (I included a lot of pictures but something was wrong with my camera the quality wasn't normal and I didn't notice until I downloaded them so accept my apology)

Flight Information:
CAI - JFK
Flight: MS 985
Aircraft Type: B777-200
Departure Terminal: Terminal 2
Arrival Terminal: Terminal 4
Gate: 6
Seat: 48A
Date: April/10/2007
Scheduled Departure: 09:10 am
Actual Departure (Push back): 9:10 am
Take off: 09:30 am
Take Off Runway: 23L
Schedule Arrival: 03:15 Pm
Actual Arrival: 02:45 pm
Landing Runway: 31R

A day trip scheduled for 12 hours from Cairo international airport to JFK New York, this was my return flight back to New York.
The flight was at 9:10 am which means I was suppose to be in the airport at least 3 hours before the flight, but my ride was late so I arrived to the airport around 7:30, which was still ok because there was still many people in front of me and more people behind me, i was at at terminal T2 (it's called the new airport)
The terminal really needs some renovation but they are waiting until the New Terminal T3 is completed and join the service later this year.

First you have go through security before you can go to the check in counters, where my 2 suitcases and my laptop bag was screened, then had to go through medal detector where I had to show my ticket to an officer that confirmed that I'm on this flight, grabbed my luggage and waited in the line where another security guy came and checked my passport( I don't know why) then a few minutes later had to hand my passport and ticket to another officer that I believe run the passport on a computer to check if my name was registered on the flight or not. Since I was late I had to wait about 20 minutes until I finally got into the agent where he checked my luggage and hand me my boarding pass (I asked him about the flight status and he said there will be some empty seats on the flight)
The flight had about 170 PAX on board.
After getting my boarding pass, had to go through immigration counter to stamp my passport which didn't take about 2 minutes, then took the escalator to the second floor (transit area) where I had plenty of time to get the newspapers, did walk around on the duty free shop, they had this new food court that did look nice and they had also couple of new coffee shops where I had some Coffee and chatted a little with that nice old lady.

Little bit later the lady went to start boarding early, and I grabbed my laptop and thought to try the WIFI service and the speed was really very good, it was about 8:40 where I start going towards the gates where I had to do another screening for my laptop and go through another medal detector, and then another security lady asked me to turn my laptop on and took a look at my laptop case. After that I entered another hall where the Agent checked my boarding pass and another security guy made sure that my passport was stamped, and finally I was on the Jet way walking towards the plan which was SU-GBY (TITI).

The in-flight service started with Breakfast that was served after about 45 minutes in the flight. I thought we will have the same continental Breakfast we had in our previous trip, but for my surprise I was offered the choice between Sausage (Beef) and Kofta, I took the Kofta which comes with 2 peace of meet, 2 peace of fried potato and one peace of beef and cheese Pattie. Also there was Jam, Cheese and Butter with 2 buns, and the desert was rice pudding.

After the dinner they FA was offering drinks either Coffee or tea, and the started the first movie which was The Queen (Excellent), then short term after the movie and a drink break, they started the second movie which was Mustangs
About 3 hours left on the flight they played a third movie which was Arabic Movie (Ali Spicy) during the movie they start serving lunch.
At launch I was again offered the choice between Beef or Fish, I took the beef since I don't like fish that much, for my luck they had two kinds of beef the first one is lasagna
And the second one was Beef Steak.
I took the lasagna one which comes with Vegetables (Carrots, Broccoli and zucchini)
Also there was green salad, Cheese, butter and the desert was chocolate cake.

With about 1 hour left in the flight, an announcement came on the PA asking if there was a doctor on board, I was sitting on the rear section of the plane where I could see some movement just at the end of the front cabin section where I could see the CPR kit was brought to what I believed to be 2 doctors and they were helping some other guy, I asked a FA and she said that everything was fine and we will be landing soon.
After landing the meds came on board and took the guy I think to an ambulance.

Now i will leave you with the Pictures till we landed at JFK on 31R

WOW !!! MS look great. Food looks nice also. Would be nice if they cleaned up that old MS 707 and put it on display somewhere. I just love the old MS livery.

Did MS get rid of all their 743's???

I hope they'll do it. Somehow, I don't understand, why is it easier to let the plane rot away instead of restore it and get few extra bucks from visitors. Such planes to get attention once they are in some kind of display.

Great report, especially the many pics! And the new terminal 3 looks good! I am curious how it will look when I arrive in CAI in June!

One question though: I thought all MS flights, including the one to JFK, depart from terminal 1 (old airport) and not terminal 2 (new airport). Is this an exception for the flights to JFK or do more MS flights depart from terminal 2?

That makes sense. I gather MS changed terminals after 9/11. I still remember the pictures of family members at terminal 1 waiting for their relatives onboard MS990. Alf rahma wa nour ala3hom.

Yes both aircraft were taken out of service in 2004 and have been parked at CAI since. A Saudi/Belgian group was due to purchase both aircraft and convert them to freighters however the plan fell through.

I have never had an issue with taking photos within Egypt's airports. If in doubt, just ask any 'amn' personnel and they'll usually give you the green light. However taking photos around CAI's perimeter fence will attract unwarranted attention.

Indeed MS985 departs T2 (but MS986 arrives into T1). This is due to 'political operational' measures as both terminals are governed by the same regulations and security is equal at both.

Two of your pics says "Enjoy Europe". Do you know roughly where those pic were taken? The bottom one looks like Mallorca.

Be nice to know the routing of the flight.

LX! I've been a frequent flyer with them for some years now, as is the rest of the family  Wink My father recently flew on MS, but came back dissapointed, although he admitted that they were improving compared to some years ago.

In the past I was several times requested not to take pictures at CAI by airport and security staff. So that made me reluctant to try. But I will ask if it's ok. And otherwise I'll just do it when I am on the plane.
