BGY-BTS-BGY. Bratislava Is Marvellous

Sat Dec 15, 2007 6:55 pm

I have to say that at the end of august 2007 I was about 18 kgs fatter than I am now.

I decided to translate in English this TR made after my journey to Bratislava, 27-28 august 2007

BGY (45°40'26"N 09°42'15"E) BTS (48°10'13"N 17°12'46"E) 61° (NE) 635 km
BTS (48°10'13"N 17°12'46"E) BGY (45°40'26"N 09°42'15"E) 246° (SW) 635 km
Total: 1271 km

Toptal paid EUR 26,00.

I went to BGY in the afternoon

27/08/2007 BGY-BTS
Scheduled 16,50-20,10
Actual 16,55-19,56
Pax 130
Reg. EI-CSI
Delivered to Ryanair on 13/06/2000

The flight was OK, the only thing to say is that the descent started very early.

After takeoff we banked left for 180 degrees

Bratislava airport is OK, nice, clean, it seems to be new in the arrivals terminal.
The bus to the city center costs about 60 eurocent.
I went to the hostel “City Hostel” which is clean and new and then I walked to the city center.

One thing is immediately noticeable: THE CITY IS MARVELLOUS!!!!

Everything is modern, nice, clean. People are polite.
All the buildings have been recently renewed. The lighting was great. All the historicsl center roads were crowded and all pubs had tables outdoor. The outside temperature at the end of august was warm and perfect.
A really beautiful city

Pictures don't show enough the beauty of the city

That evening there were even fireworks!!!

In the main square there was the open air cinema and a loto of people sat on the floor to watch it.

The next day I returned to the city center which is not big so you can visit it on foot.

I did'n know Bratislava is so beautiful and I can easily say that it is my 2007 surprise. I've already booked to come back to Bratislava on 15-17 february 2008.
And it isn't even expensive.

Great report and great pictures. It really does look like a beautiful place to visit. I've actually always wanted to visit the city ever since I watched the movie Eurotrip  Smile If anyone's seen that movie, you know what I'm talking about  Smile They keep talking about how good the exchange rate is!!!
But thanks for sharing this report, I would definitely like to read your next report when you visit the city in Feb of next year.
Bon Voyage to you!!!

Quoting DALCE (Reply 6):
What were your experiences with FR like?

I flew Ryanair 85 times and I can tell you that despite all bashing you can see in this site it's a great airline.
99% of the times on time, new airplanes, basic service (more than good for flights up to 3 hrs).
F/A the most of the times are friendly and polite and captains-F/O always polite, too.
The fares?  Smile
Great!!!

I know FR is not SQ but even the fares are the same....
If you consider the ratio quality/price you'll realize that Ryanair is the top of the world.

I thank MOL, FR management, FR pilots and cabin crews because they make my journeys possible.

You're great guys!!!

But don't forget to visit Bratislava. When I say it was the great surprise of 2007, I'm not saying it just to say. I didn't expect a city like that, so beautiful.
When I decided to go there I made it so just to go, just to visit a new place, but I have to say that it's absolutely astonishing, far better than I expected.

As I said before I've already booked my next visit 15-17 feb. 2008 and I'll go with 4 friends.
We're going to sleep at City Hostel wich is new, clean and nice.

Bratislava is also not expensive.

In one word: GREAT!!!!

Bratislava is ok,just don't expect to see much action at the airport!! If you really want to see the best part of Slovakia go up to the Tatra mountains where the scenery is really fantastic or anywhere in the northeastern corner ( ok so I'm biased, my girlfriend is from Presov!  Smile ). Kosice airport has a very good aircraft museum http://airmuseum.aspdotnet.sk/index_e.html in english which is well worth a visit! I managed to visit it this summer on one of our trips back to visit her family they have some very good and rare exhibits eg Chinese Nanchang Q-5 Fantan & Romanian IAR-93A & as you would expect plenty of Slovak Air Force aircraft. The staff (all volunteers I believe?) are very friendly & take great pride in showing people around the exhibits! Kosice is easily reached from Bratislava either by air with Sky Europe or a much longer train ride!

Excellent TR! You did a great job of portraying Bratislava at its finest!

The pictures of the city brought back many memories of my trip there two years ago; I remember walking down that very street in the first picture of the city itself, and standing near enough to where you were standing at the Castle overlooking the city!

Where exactly is the Dreamliner logojet based? I though it was Stansted, so is it doing a W-pattern from there or has it been transferred to the BGY base? I just saw it at SNN a few weeks ago, and have seen it at DUB once aswell.

Well, you have to take into account that the majority of FR flights originate on secondary airports with very little traffic and no or little slot restrictions.

I still prefer Easyjet over FR, I think they are a bit more professional.

But I agree with you, cheap affordable travelling and adequate service, I have flown FR quite a few times and never had a problem with them, only once we had an hour delay on my GRO-BOH flight and I didn´t even complained (1 more hour to enjoy the sun in GROBig grin

P.S. Bratislava is on my list now!

ryanair aircraft are not based at any particular airport , we have aircraft changes all the time, you will fly to an airport and just swap aircraft with another crew. The aircraft might be based at DUB then fly to ALC and swap so it is then based at ALC for a few days until it flys to STN and swaps and becomes STN based for a few days until it flys to say for example NYO. It is all done to fit in the maintanence schedules as maintenece is done at DUB, PIK and STN only. With so much maintence being done at PIK yet only 5 aircraft based there you can pretty much guarente that by the end of the day 3 or 4 of the aircraft that were there in the morning are not the same ones that are overnighting in PIK that same evening.
