GCM-MIA-GCM Part 2! (pics)

Soon it was time to head on out to the busses to the Car Hire place (National) to pick up our car before heading off to the hotel to drop our bags. Our car was from the Emerald isle and because of their being 4 of us, we had to choose a big enough car! We decided on a new Toyota Camry. The Camry was actually very spacious and actually a very nice car (kind of rivals my BMW 5 series!). We were soon off to the hotel which happened to be the Wyndam hotel at Miami Airport. Not the best hotel to be near the shopping (I prefer the Marriot in the Dadeland area) but as my brother’s job had put him in here, we decided it was the better place to stay so we were all together.
The Wyndam hotel is actually a very nice hotel. We were given rooms on the 7th floor and I had a view looking to the north and was able to see some of the departures off runway 8R.
Very spacious room. Sorry about the mess but I’m not the tidiest person for hotel rooms!

Good bathroom actually also. Very nice room and would recommend the hotel to anyone. Probably cheaper than the Hotel in the airport itself and a lot more comfortable. The food is good and there is a regular bus shuttle to the airport.

New multi-story rental place for MIA which will house all the car hire places in one place and be connected to the terminal by a train.
Soon we dropped the cases off and went out to get the most of our day of shopping in Miami.
I thought this was a very interesting parking sign at the Hotel. Not many Hybrids here in Miami, although apparently the US have an award for the Hybrid car of the year to be a GMC Yukon! Just because it has a 9V battery in it, doesn’t mean it’s a Hybrid! :P The space was never in use during my stay here!
We soon got on our way to get to Dadeland Mall and this involves going around the perimeter of the airport. This is a shot of the new International terminal at MIA.
With a whole day of shopping in hand it was going to be a busy day. Luckily Macys had one of their ‘one day sales’ going on that Saturday and I had have to say I thought I did well in finding the deals and steals! Some of the stuff was over 50% off and then I was also able to get my 11% tourist discount also (If you’re in Macys and not living in the USA, head up to the Gift wrapping section and have a passport or driving licence you can get one of these cards! Every little helps I say!)
After looking around Dadeland Mall, I went off to Dadeland Station to go to my favourite shop in the USA. BEST BUYS!
For those who don’t know the joys of Best Buy, it is a man’s favourite shop with DVDs, music and electronics (computers, TVs, cameras, games-the whole lot!)

As my brother has children, a trip to Toys-R-Us which I haven’t been to in around 16 years! I have to say tho that it hasn’t seemed to change at all! My father always hated them also and he thought he had got away from them! Pity for him that he has grand children now!
We then headed off to Flannigans for dinner which is a pretty cool restaurant that has tasty ribs and has the usual selection of a sports bar type restaurant (I wanted to go to Hooters but I lost 3-1 in votes!)

The next day there wasn’t much to do as it was a Sunday and most shops don’t really open till midday. My brother was booked onto the early BA flight to LHR (he said T5 was amazing btw-and his bag didn’t get lost!) so we had to be at the airport for around 3:30 to drop him off. We decided to have breakfast at Dennys which is always good for breakfast and you get your money’s worth there! With our huge breakfast around 10am, we were not going to need lunch so off we went to the shops to find the last stuff on my brother’s list of things for the children!
Before long the time soon ran away and before long we went off back to MIA. My father was going onto Dominican Republic and wasn’t leaving till Monday morning but my mother and I were back off home that night (as I was needed at work on Monday at 7am!). My father dropped us off at the airport and then made sure my brother was all checked in and we said good bye and he went through to his flight at concourse F.

There was a small queue tonight for check-in and we waited around half an hour until we were checked in. Tonight’s flight was full and we were not given upgrades for tonight section which doesn’t really matter for the short flight.
After being checked in and leaving the bags at the security checkpoint, we went up to the Admirals Club at concourse E. When we walked past the security line at E before checking in we saw it was going to be a long wait! We decided to go through at D which was a lot shorter and only took 10 minutes! We then cleared security and used the transfer walkway to get back to E (our flight was leaving from E satellite and the Admirals Club at E is a lot nicer than the one at D in my opinion).

The club was pretty full tonight and we normally sit in the quiet areas off to the left as you enter but they were all taken and people seemed to have their mobile phones stuck to their ears also here! When travelling I never use my phone unless it is actually needed! I hate the sounds of mobile phones when you’re trying to relax! We found some seats near the end and also near the bar. The view from the admirals club at E is a lot better than D and you get to see all the aircraft at D-E and F.

My brother back off to the UK. BA pushed back on time and taxied up to runway 8R where she took off back to LHR.

A couple behind us were leaving and had given us their complementary drink vouchers for the club which I put to use on a nice cold Heineken!

Our flight to GCM was at 7:15pm and as we had already cleared security it wouldn’t take long to get to the gate. We decided to leave just after 6:30pm and made our way down the lift to the station where we boarded a train to take us out to our gate for our flight down to GCM (E20 was our gate)

As we arrived at the satellite I noticed our gate was empty! However looking back I saw a 738 coming into the area and I thought that this may be our aircraft and it was. I then knew that our flight was going to be a tad delayed as the aircraft would be hard pushed for a 35 minute turn around.

The flight had been delayed till 7:30 now and around 7:10pm they began boarding. AA board by groups and they normally make sure that only those groups board when called. However I never understand why everyone jumps up when they announce boarding and then just stand right beside the gate so people who have been called to board can’t get through! You have a seat on the plane so why rush! It’s not Easy Jet! It was so bad that the flight crew had to shout a bit to make a path so they could get on! The captain made a funny comment to them saying ‘we aint going nowhere if you don’t move!’
I made my way down the ramp and picked up my duty free (which I had bought earlier) and soon made my way to 13A
Seat 13A is the first row of the over wing emergency exists and it has amazing pitch! I think that it actually has more room than my business seat the day before!

Soon enough everybody was onboard and we pushed back around 7:40pm. E20 is a gate that involves a lot of pushing as the aircraft turns 90 degrees right and then 90 degrees back so it is out on the main taxiway to get out of the area. It took around 2 minutes to move the aircraft out there and then engines were started and then we were detached and soon we were on our way off to runway 8R

The second IB flight had arrived while I was on the aircraft and was getting ready for a return trip back to MAD.
Safety video was shown while we were taxing out to the active.
A US 734 in the new C/S passed out in front of us. We followed her all the way out to the runway.
Take off was smooth and as always great! The noise those CFMs make are just fantastic.
I apologise for the video as I thought it was recording when we taxied onto the runway but I found it wasn’t. As you can see we are fairly moving by the time I got it on!

After takeoff we made a right hand turn to head south. I decided to put the camera away as it was getting dark and there wasn’t much else to see but I’m glad before I did I looked out to see the moon rise.
Nice shot of the moon rising. Again the flash was off and I couldn’t hold my hand steady enough for the exposure to come out as well as it looked!
The routing today was:
The flight was smooth and pretty much the usual for a one hour flight. Service on board was good and the crew were not nasty (as some AA can be). I just listened to my iPod using my Bose QC2 headphones to drown out any annoying noise from the cabin.
As we approached Caymans FIR, we began out decent making the usual approach in for Runway 8.
(there is suppose to be a video here of the landing but it is rather large and youtube won’t take it. I will try and shrink it but if anybody else has any ideas they would be very helpful!)

We soon were off the aircraft and down the stairs heading to Immigration. Immigration in Cayman seems to take no time at all (probably cause I have Status!) and actually had no wait for our bag and soon were off outside back in the car and off home.

Next trip actually is planned to be in May using miles on AA going First Class from GCM-MIA-ORD-LHR-BOS-MIA-GCM. All I am waiting for is for work to ok my leave (ticket is on hold). This will hopefully be a bit more entertaining and as long as I can get time off work I will definitely be doing a report on AAs Flagship First!
