Swiss First: LHR-ZRH-NRT With Pics

Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:29 pm

This year I turned 40. Some people have a mid life crisis at this age. Buy a Harley Davidson? Grow a ponytail? Run off with my secretary? Well, I decided to have a holiday in Japan. I have always wanted to go there, and this would also be a great excuse for another trip on LX First Class.

I had booked the trip on the spur of the moment, 2 weeks before travelling, and before I knew it I was heading to Heathrow. Swiss moved to Terminal 1 in June. I have taken several trips out of T1 in recent months, and so far, the check in experience on LX has left me underwhelmed. The layout of the check in queue means that everyone queues at the business class desks, regardless of their class of travel. Grrrr!

As I was having an overnight layover in Zurich, my bags could not be checked in through to Narita. I asked for an invitation to the Star Alliance First Class lounge. I am not sure if this would have been offered without my asking for it.

One significant improvement in T1 is the availability of lounges. Star golds can use the Star Alliance Business class lounge or the bmi Number 1 lounge. If I have a long wait, I tend to split my time between lounges, but the bmi lounge is the much better of the two.
Getting into the Star Alliance First Class lounge is quite difficult, even with an invitation and a first class onward connection. Every time I go there, I have a problem at reception.

Today was no exception. Even though I had an invitation, the lounge dragon did not want to let me in, as the invitation was not signed by the check in agent. I really find this attitude unbelievable. Eventually I was grudgingly allowed to proceed.

The first class lounge is nothing special.

There are no views, but it is normally empty, and the hot food offering is particularly good. There is a very good selection of Indian foods.

There is champagne and free wifi available. At this time of day there were a few passengers taking South African flights.

After a while, I decided to adjourn to the bmi lounge, as this offers wonderful views, and the windowless lounge starts to feel rather gloomy.

The bmi lounge is a wonderful facility. The design is quite funky- imitating Virgin Clubhouses somewhat, but that is nothing to complain about. So far, the bmi staff that I meet are so thrilled about this lounge. They love showing it to passengers.

The views of the northern runway are spectacular, and there are chaises longues that give a fantastic view. I could easily miss my flight here. There is also a good selection of food. There is even an Aga in the lounge!

Soon it was time to board. The number 1 lounge is not too convenient for the gates, and I needed to cross the length of the departure lounge once more to get to the gate.

Loads would be light on this evening’s flight, with only 3 passengers in business class, and economy appeared fairly light.

Boarding was unhurried, followed by the usual ritual of refreshing towel, water and newspapers.

The crew on this flight were not the most motivated that I have experienced on LX. In fact, they were rarely seen. After having a gin and tonic, we were served dinner.

Please don’t ask me what this meal was. I didn’t eat it. The food on shorter LX flights in Europe is something of a lottery. Mostly I find it bizarre and inedible, which is a shame, as the service is normally extremely good, and the food on the longer European flights tends to be excellent.

4th August
LX 160: ZRH-NRT Seat 1A First Class
A340-300 HB-JMG

Just walking into the First Class check in zone is such an exciting feeling. Check in takes no time at all.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04950.jpg

The Swiss blurb tells us that there is coffee and champagne if required. I saw no evidence of this, but who needs it when you are spending about a minute checking in?

“HON” tags were attached to my bag and I was free to proceed to the First Class lounge. There is a lot of debate on websites such as FlyerTalk about the relative benefits of the First Class terminal at Frankfurt versus the F lounge at Zurich. Personally I much prefer the LX First product over that of Lufty, so for me it is a simple choice, and LX wins every time.

The staff at the lounge were very friendly and welcoming. There were few people in the lounge today. I was offered a selection of times for my transfer to the E terminal. My flight was leaving at 13.00, so I opted to leave the lounge at 12.15.

There are a few separate sitting areas, plus shower rooms, dayrooms, bar and a sit down restaurant.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04953.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04951.jpg

There is an excellent selection of hot and cold food, plus a wide selection of drinks. Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque is plentiful, both Brut and Rose. The staff were extremely attentive in making sure that food and drink were replenished.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04955.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04952.jpg

I resisted the temptation to gorge myself, but I did have a few glasses of champagne. The lounge offers great views of the ramp and runways, but the view is somewhat obscured by pipework- not great for taking photos. The Swiss lounge does not have the wow factor of other first class lounges that I have visited, but it has an air of understated elegance, functionality and efficiency that corresponds to their onboard product, and makes for a consistent experience without the gaudy glamour and glitz of certain Middle Eastern and Asian carriers. Let’s just say that it is typically Swiss.

At the appointed hour I went back to reception to be met by my driver and 2 other passengers: one was going to Dubai and the other to Montreal. We were ushered to ground level, where there is a dedicated security check and passport control. This really is the way to travel. We were then bussed by Mercedes van to the E terminal.

At this point the First service falls down, as passengers are left to make their own way to the gate. This is not such a problem, but it seems strange to receive the rock star treatment and then be rather unceremoniously dumped at the E terminal.

Today my flight was leaving from E42. I really love the E terminal at Zurich. The design is very simple and there are wonderful views of the aircraft and runways.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04962.jpg

At this point I saw many Japanese passengers at the gate. Wow! I really am going to Japan! Judging by the numbers, the load would be quite light today. Boarding was completed in a very orderly fashion, and of course, the Japanese passengers followed instructions to the letter, and did not get in the First/Business queue if they were flying in Y. This makes a nice change from the usual scramble to board.

I walked down the jetway, hardly believing that I was actually on my way to Japan.

I was welcomed aboard by 2 members of the crew who, on seeing that I was in First, immediately escorted me through the front business class cabin to my seat. The new Swiss first class is receiving many plaudits, and rightly so, but the “old” first class still hits the mark.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04971.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04972.jpg

Many people comment that the cabin is drab, but I like the feel that the colours and the layout convey, of quiet efficiency. Typically Swiss, perhaps, and a world away from the gaudy, gold plated interiors of certain Middle Eastern and Asian carriers.

Today we would be looked after by 2 female crew, both of whom came to personally welcome me onboard. Their warmth and friendliness told me that this would be a very enjoyable flight, and throughout they did their utmost to make me comfortable. Crew in Swiss First are invariably excellent, and whenever I am in F, I really do feel that the crew are dedicated to giving passengers the best possible experience, from keeping my glass topped up, to enthusing about my destination, to persuading me to sample many different causes, and encouraging me to have the extra Sprungli praline with my Nespresso. I really cannot think of a better way to fly.

True to form, a glass of champagne (Pommery Cuvee Louise 1998) soon appeared.

Today I was in 1A, and there would be 3 passengers in First today, which made for a very personalised service.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC04976.jpg

The amenity kits were then given (Bally bag with La Prairie products) and pyjamas- I love the Van Laack pyjamas that Swiss have. Hot towels and menus were also distributed as we pushed back on time.

Next came a surprise that was not on the menu- a sushi course! It was delicious, and beautifully presented. The sushi is actually catered by a leading Japanese restaurant in Zurich. A good start to the trip.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05005.jpg

Appetisers are served in the old fashioned way, from a trolley-, which means that you can sample a bit of everything. I opted for the Balik salmon, which was truly excellent.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05007.jpg

Although I had not asked for it, I was then served the tomato consommé with basil ice cream- sounds weird, but was in fact totally delicious.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05009.jpg

This really was excellent. Next came the salad course, again mixed individually from the trolley. There were all sorts of exotic enhancements available, but I tend to like simple salads…

By now, we were over Poland and heading for the Baltic States
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05011.jpg

I decided to eschew the fillet of beef that was on offer as a main, and opted for the Thai green chicken curry. It was excellent; beautifully spiced and subtly flavoured.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05012.jpg

The cheese course is always a highlight on Swiss, and the crew always know a lot about the cheeses on offer. This is one of the 2 plates of cheese that I managed to eat:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05018.jpg

After such indulgence, I had to wimp out and go for a lighter dessert of Chriesibragel: warm cherry compote with elderflower ice cream, washed down with a ’98 Sauternes.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05021.jpg

Coffee is another highlight up front on LX- Nespresso, with Sprungli chocolates. The perfect end to the meal.

Heading for St. Petersburg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05023.jpg

Given the light load, I was offered the choice of having my bed made up in a neighbouring seat. I changed into my pyjamas and settled down for the night. The bed is very comfortable, and duvet and pillows are reminiscent of hotels, not of aeroplanes, and give a very comfortable night’s sleep.

Throughout the flight, the crew repeatedly checked the cabin in case anything was needed. Water bottles were regularly refereshed throughout the night, and when I woke up, there was a glass of orange juice at my seat.

I slept for a few hours and woke up over Siberia.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05026.jpg
One minor moan that I will have about Swiss is that the movie selection is generally poor.

Narita airport is well designed and easy to transit from the passenger’s perspective. The queues for immigration were not too long, and there were Japanese immigration staff actually helping travellers to complete their forms, and congratulating passengers who had completed their forms correctly. (US and UK immigration staff, take note!)

My bag was one of the first on the belt, and within minutes I was on the Airport Limousine bus, bound for my hotel.
I won’t bore you too much about my trip. Japan is an amazing place. The people are wonderful, and Japan is the most amazing collision of ultra modernity and tradition. I am already planning my next trip back.

My trip took me to Tokyo, Nagano, Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima.

Here are some random photos from the trip.

Of course., for us plane geeks, no trip to Tokyo is complete without a trip to Haneda. Haneda airport is just a few kilometres from downtown Tokyo, and easily accessible by train or monorail.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05876.jpg

Currently there are 2 terminals. Terminal 1 is the JAL stronghold; Terminal 2 is the preserve of ANA. An international terminal is currently under construction.

Terminal 1 does not really feel like an airport at all. It has more of the ambience of an upmarket department store.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05880.jpg

There are many high quality shopping outlets, just in case withdrawal from shopping sets in whilst waiting for a flight.

Check in area
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05879.jpg
In both terminals there are JAL or ANA sponsored shops, selling all kinds of airline memorabilia from aprons and pens to models and flight bags. These are the kind of shops that make the average a.netter hyperventilate!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC05878.jpg
Haneda has to be one of the best airports in the world for spotting. The terminal 1 viewing area offers great views. There is a café nearby and seating. It seemed very popular with families.

As I mentioned, T1 is JAL territory, and it was wonderful to have so many opportunities to spot the A300-600: my all time favourite plane, and increasingly rare in Europe.

After a while, I hopped onto the free transfer bus over to Terminal 2. As a slave to Star Alliance, I felt much more at home on ANA territory! ☺ Terminal 2 is more modern, and feels more like an airport than T1. The observation terrace also offers better views.

It was my last day in Tokyo, and I decided to check out the Norimono Club- an aircraft model shop in central Tokyo. It has a great selection , including some highly rare models, but at eye watering prices. Well worth a visit if you are in Tokyo. I did treat myself to an ANA Pokemon 747-400D. Just couldn’t resist.

Early next morning I was back at Narita, heading home.

First, Business and Economy have their own dedicated areas in Terminal 2 at Narita. I was alone in checking in at the Swiss First Class counters, but the neighbouring Lufthansa First Class counter was quite busy.

My bags were checked through to Heathrow, and I was given an invitation to the ANA First Class Lounge, and a welcome letter from the Swiss Station Manager.

Security was quiet this early on Sunday morning. I did some spotting, and saw the Swiss flight arriving from Zurich.

After an excellent meal, during which it was so hard to resist the encouragement of the crew to overindulge completely, it was time to get some sleep.

I had one of the best sleeps that I ever had on a plane.

Again, my only complaint is the rather lamentable film selection onboard. I was reduced to watching “The Island”, that turkey featuring Ewan Mc Gregor and Scarlett Johanssen. Desperation had obviously set in.

At one point, my system needed rebooting, and I was reminded just how old the system on the A340 is!

We touched down at Zurich ahead of schedule. One small gripe about travelling in First on LX is that there is no van service for arriving passengers. I made my way to the First Lounge, where I had a couple of hours to kill before my onward flight to London.

By now I was feeling quite tired and I decided to take a shower. The showers in the First Class lounge are well appointed and I felt better after taking a shower.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC06099.jpg

The First class lounge is a haven of tranquillity. In addition to the bar and restaurant service, there is an excellent selection of food and drinks at the buffet.

Nice report sir! Like yourself I just adored Japan. Tokyo is in my mind a perfect city, was blown away by it.

I don't usually ask questions but any idea what the JAL aircraft at HND was with the green tail?

Must burn some of those bmi miles of mine on an LX F flight some time soon. Their current F looks good but the new, incoming F product looks marvellous!

First of all happy birthday,

It is very nice to see Swiss has got on offer for their F passengers. I caught a glimpse of F class cabin briefly during my travel in J and was wondering what it would be like. Thank you for sharing it.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Even though I had an invitation, the lounge dragon did not want to let me in, as the invitation was not signed by the check in agent. I

What is the point? If you are a F passenger, you are entitled to enter the lounge with or without invitation, IMO.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
E42.

Sounds familiar to me.  Smile

Nice report and excellent pictures.

A great report. Thank you for sharing it. I've got 13 years to save the pennies or Star Alliance miles for that trip, but a as an alternative to a mid-life crisis or extra-marital affair, I think it's an excellent choice Big grin

Perfect timing for your report, I'm on LX 339 in J next week - hopefully the food will be a bit more edible then, and the crew a bit more motivated. I went to the observation deck at HND a few years ago - great place. I bought an ANA bag in the shop you mentioned, those shops are a mecca to airnetters!

This is a 777 that JAL painted green to symbolize being environmentally friendly (I think)

From one who lived just outside Tokyo for 4 years, your pics brought back many pleasant memories. The Japanese take their plane spotting seriously and at both HND and NRT there are facilities for plane spotting. I agree with you on Terminal 1...it looks more like a shopping mall than an airport.
I love going in Terminal 2...it is very peaceful there.
And I have been to Norimono several times...definitely a place for airplane lovers.
Thank you for an excellent TR

Excelent report, thanks for sharing!

The sstem isnt so much the problem it's the limited selection that LX loads onto it. For instance the new system on the Airbus A330-300 have the same movie selection as on the A343's. Both the old and the new system have potential to take many more movies. Hope LX will improve that at some point.

This year I turned 40

- Congrats  Smile It's mine next year, working out where to go at the moment.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Getting into the Star Alliance First Class lounge is quite difficult, even with an invitation and a first class onward connection. Every time I go there, I have a problem at reception.

- Really should not be, seems lack of staff training?

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Even though I had an invitation, the lounge dragon did not want to let me in, as the invitation was not signed by the check in agent

- Don't you love these folks?!

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
There are no views

- Never good in a lounge.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
the food on the longer European flights tends to be excellent.

- Totally agree, some of the offerings to/from LHR are a bit weak.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
I love the Van Laack pyjamas that Swiss have

- Yes, these are great, I need another pair.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Haneda has to be one of the best airports in the world for spotting

- Very true, just brilliant!

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
a welcome letter from the Swiss Station Manager.

- This is a nice touch, had one on my flight from JFK a few years back, was very impressed.

The meal service to/from NRT looks excellent, very impressed.

The current F seats are very comfprtable, but the new seats look excellent, hope top get to try these out someday soon.

Loved your trip report ! Well done, Cambrian (and well done, Swiss  Smile)

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
One small gripe about travelling in First on LX is that there is no van service for arriving passengers

About that, I must say that I do not understand their practice. Sometimes you get the limo or van ride from terminal E when arriving in F on a Swiss intercontinental flight, and sometimes you don't. In April, for example, I had the pleasant surprise to see a driver waiting for me at the aircraft door.

For some reason, the final part of my report has disappeared, so here it is again:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC06107.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC06109.jpg

Nice bird, with TK A340 in the background
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/glendore/Japan/DSC06111.jpg

It transpired that my flight was delayed by 30 minutes, but I was happy to spend more time in the comfort of the First lounge. Swiss offer a car service to onward connections for First passengers- most welcome after a long flight.

Now that the Schengen agreement has been implemented, UK flights depart from remote stands. I was driven to the stand, but the aircraft was not quite ready for boarding. My driver asked me to wait, and he checked with the ground crew about when I could board. Meanwhile, the buses arrived carrying the other passengers for the flight. They were held up so that I could board first. It was so funny, as I am sure that they imagined that I was some sort of celebrity or VIP. Imagine their dismay on boarding, to find an ordinary Joe sitting in 1A, and not a Hollywood A lister! ☺

I didn’t take any photos of the flight to Heathrow. I take this flight often, and tiredness was kicking in, so my journey ends here.

What can I say about Swiss? They have been my choice of airline for many years, and I fly them wherever their network permits. Swiss First Class is head and shoulders above its European competitors. I cannot begin to imagine why any sane person would fly Lufthansa First Class, when Swiss offers such a wonderful hard and soft product.

Perhaps the Swiss cabin does not have the bells and whistles that many Asian carriers often, but their crews are simply wonderful. They took every step to make sure that the passengers in their care are made to feel valued and special. This is the true value and cachet of travelling in First Class.

When I told friends and colleagues that my holiday would be in Japan, they raised eyebrows. If you get the chance to ever visit Japan, GO! You will have an unforgettable experience. It is a fascinating country of huge contrasts. The people are wonderful, and it is very easy to travel around.

I am already planning my next trip back- this time to Japan and South Korea, with Swiss and Asiana.

Thanks for reading my (long) report. Questions and comments welcome!

Hello there!

Well, Happy birthday!

I must say, just as all the other A.netters already did before me, this was an EXCELLENT TR!!

Highly documented with beautiful pictures: I felt I was (almost) flying in the seat next to you!

Great plane spotting in Japan, and what a beautiful country it seems! Going to Japan is also one of my dreams .... I'll fullfill it as soon as I can.

I do agree with you, LX's new F and J cabin have a very sober but soothing atmosphere. They really seem nice!

Well have a great evening then,

cheers,

orian

Great report! One photo that I saw of the F cabin had two people dining across from each other. Is that something unique to Swiss F, or is it true in the F classes of other airlines? I think it's a really nice touch when traveling with someone else with whom you wish to dine.

An excellent read of what seemed to be a thoroughly successful trip. LX's product in First certainly seems to be very good. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Japan and loved your photo of the skyscrapers with the flowerbeds in the foreground.

Hi David,

congratulations for an excellent report with great pictures! Enjoyed reading a lot.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
This year I turned 40. Some people have a mid life crisis at this age. Buy a Harley Davidson? Grow a ponytail? Run off with my secretary? Well, I decided to have a holiday in Japan. I have always wanted to go there, and this would also be a great excuse for another trip on LX First Class.

Nice intro. I think you made the right decision.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Please don’t ask me what this meal was. I didn’t eat it.

It doesn't look bad, though.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Typically Swiss, perhaps, and a world away from the gaudy, gold plated interiors of certain Middle Eastern and Asian carriers.

Perfect for me, I don't like these golden ornaments and fittings which certain carrier use excessively.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Today I was in 1A, and there would be 3 passengers in First today,

That doesn't sound good from the airline's point of view...

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Next came a surprise that was not on the menu- a sushi course! It was delicious, and beautifully presented. The sushi is actually catered by a leading Japanese restaurant in Zurich. A good start to the trip.

Great stuff!

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Although I had not asked for it, I was then served the tomato consommé with basil ice cream- sounds weird, but was in fact totally delicious.

Nice surprise!

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Haneda has to be one of the best airports in the world for spotting.

I can only agree. Can't wait to go there again.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Dessert was Chocolate Fondant with Japanese Green Tea Ice Cream:

Mouth-watering...

When Swissair introduced this First Class product in 1999 they were I think the first ones to offer the posibility for people to dine together as the table was also the largest table at the time and as far as I know no airline brought out a table larger than this one. Nevertheless I am sure that some other F products of other airlines have the option to dine together in the meanwhle

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

I am not sure if BA were not the first to offer face to face dining with a companion? Perhaps this predated Swissair/Swiss? The companion seat is rather better on Swiss. My recollection of the seat on BA is that I was rather wedged in, albeit with good window views.

Of course, the table in LX first is just huge!

I will take a photo of my Pokemon 744D model, and post it later.

Thanks for reading my report.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Even though I had an invitation, the lounge dragon did not want to let me in, as the invitation was not signed by the check in agent. I really find this attitude unbelievable. Eventually I was grudgingly allowed to proceed.

Don't be too harsh at my airline we had a lot of problems with people stealing the lounge invites and forging the name of their check-in agent!!

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
The Swiss lounge does not have the wow factor of other first class lounges that I have visited, but it has an air of understated elegance, functionality and efficiency that corresponds to their onboard product, and makes for a consistent experience without the gaudy glamour and glitz of certain Middle Eastern and Asian carriers. Let%u2019s just say that it is typically Swiss.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Many people comment that the cabin is drab, but I like the feel that the colours and the layout convey, of quiet efficiency. Typically Swiss, perhaps, and a world away from the gaudy, gold plated interiors of certain Middle Eastern and Asian carriers.

Agree I know people critises airlines like swiss at times for not going for the 'blinged' out look that many other airlines go for but I must say I find it far more relaxing and refreshing when airlines offer the style of product that you mentioned! Further more it dates much slower too and suites more tastes I would imagine.

Fantastic TR!! Great pics too.

I also love LX First Class. I have flown with them 3 times this year and the crew have always been fabulous.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
The layout of the check in queue means that everyone queues at the business class desks, regardless of their class of travel. Grrrr!

At the back of the check in area there is a First Class check in zone to help you avoid the queues. It's not very clear though!

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
The food on shorter LX flights in Europe is something of a lottery.

Totally agree. It is a shame. I much prefer BA Club Europe. LH is even worse than LX.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
Personally I much prefer the LX First product over that of Lufty, so for me it is a simple choice, and LX wins every time.

I must say that I prefer LH on the ground and LX in the air for F travel.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
At this point the First service falls down, as passengers are left to make their own way to the gate.

Fully agree. They have stopped short here. It would be better if they adopted the LH approach and took you directly to the aircraft.

Quoting Cambrian (Thread starter):
One small gripe about travelling in First on LX is that there is no van service for arriving passengers.

Again, I fully agree. I have only ever been met when I've had a tight connection. If I was able to choose which direction I received the one way transfer, I'd personally rather have the car from E to A rather than the way round LX do it.

I'll try to take pics on my next LX F flight to share.

Thanks! Japan is an amazing place to visit, and I can think of nowhere better than the terrace of Haneda airport on a sunny day.

Oh, ok. I am not sure why LX does not use the LH check in zone in T1. That is a very nice facility.

As an LX First Class passenger, you can check in at the First Class check in are in Zone R (the one used by LH). It's much less hassle than the main LX check in area. A handy hint for your next F flight on LX - perhaps as your 50th birthday present to yourself?  Smile

Thanks for that.

That food looked fantastic and I loved the small bread basket they put on the table. That looks like a proper First Class service.

Like you, I'm a great fan of Japan.
