Ryanair LPL-ORK

Thu Nov 12, 2009 4:16 pm

I travel to cork fairly frequently.
I go to Uni in Liverpool so the last few times i have used Ryanair.
This time was to be no different, I checked Aer Lingus and BMI Baby which were about the same price but i decieded the effort and time in travelling to MAN wasnt worth it.
I got return ticket for £54 pounds which is quite expensive, FR are now the same price as EI and WW if not more.

30th Oct FR9895

Got the bus from outside my house, takes around 20mins.
Arrived quite early at 1pm,

Airport is quiet which surprisingly meant i was through security in a few minutes, I find its very hit and miss at LPL.

Check-In Hall

Flybe and KLM desks

Once airside i find LPL is quite boring, with poor facilites and views.
Not much activity, just usual FR738s and EZY 319s

View over the Mersey estuary

The two wizz air flights were unsurprisingly delayed, by 2hrs and 30mins respectively.
Eventually the gate was annouced and everyone lined up waiting for boarding.
Where the FR flights leave, is very basic, almost a series of portacabins.

My A/C

Flight was called, only 3 people with priority boarding, i was 3rd in the normal line, after passing downstairs we had to wait again on the stairs as the aircraft wasnt ready. True LCC style, but beggars cant be choosers.

Walked to the rear stairs, unlike the masses, Secured a window seat about 5 rows from the back, I like to see the wing action.
Flight wasnt full, about 70%
Fokker 70 arrived from AMS, load looked decent.
F70 and A320
Took a while to pushback, but departed on time, from the westerly runway, flight time of 1hr, cruising altitude of 32,000, routing over the Irish Sea to Dublin, then turning south towards Cork.

Flight went quickly, little bumpy in clouds, crew were pretty standard FR, mixture of Eastern European and British.

Very low cloud in Cork, I thought we may have to go-around, but alas not.
Touched down SMOOTHLY runway 17 (Im guessing it was autoland) on time at 15:25
Cloud was amazingly low, could almost touch it,
Looked like there had been very heavy rain.

View of old terminal
Lonely EI320 and new terminal

2nd Nov FR9896

Arrived with over an hour to go, i like the new terminal, but i cant help feeling it lacks the charm of the old one.
Passed quickly through security, Terminal was quite busy with couple of EI and RE flights as well as FR and WW
WW 733 to MAN
RE 72-5 to BRS
EI320 to LHR and RE 42-3 to CWL

Boarded on time and secured similair seat to the outbound, load was about the same as the inbound, 70%, with a few familair faces as well.
EI321 to Lanzarote (I dont know if the 320 and 321 swapped schedules due to 321 slightly behind?)

Departed on time from runway 35, routing same as in bound.
flight time announced as 45mins.
flight passed quickly and soon commenced decent in LPL.
Landed smoothly 10mins early at 16:40.

KL F70 leaving for AMS

All in all pretty standard FR flights, on time, dirty cabin and unfriendly crew, but fine for an hour flight.

Just to say merci for the report of an airport (Cork) I've also been to with Ryanair but from London Stansted, so from Liverpool was a quite nice different routing. I have no problems flying Ryanair at all and find them to be quite a decent airline although if you're not flexible with dates etc. I agree they're not particularly cheap. But I really liked the new terminal at Cork (I've never seen the old one) and even though I was only there for a few hours the city of Cork wasn't bad too.

Many thanks for the slightly different/niche route in this report,

Nice report on a little reported route.

I agree, unless the fares are significantly cheaper from MAN it's just not worth bothering to travel there.

Never flown from LPL, so not sure what airside is like, thought the view pre security were ok though.
