I arrived at Terminal 2 at 5:50 AM
and found long lines for both the Delta ticket counter and security at T2W. The line for bag drop stretched back to the rotunda where security is. It moved quickly for how many people there was. I checked my bag and decided I did not want to wait in what had to be a 40 minute line for T2W, so I headed over to T2E security where there was much less of a line.
After clearing security I walked around to get some pictures.
Around 7:20 AM
they started to board, but did not really board anyone until closer to 7:40AM
. By this time I figure there is no way we can depart on time. I board with zone two and take my seat in 37G.
The flight attendants do a nice job politely pushing everyone on board and getting them to take their seats. We had four San Diego based flght attendants on our flight, I am always a little surprised to hear the FAs are from SAN
, but it seems to happen quite often on flights between SAN
Due to the polite pushing we push back only a few minutes behind schedule. The safety video is done in the push as the engines spring to life. We start a slow taxi to 27, Alaska, Southwest and United all jump in front of us to make us number four for the runway.
After a smooth takeoff we head west before making the turn south for the Poggi Two departure. As we climb we are told about the service that will be started soon and the food options we will have to buy on board. Not long after they passed out menus for the EATS for those who wanted it.
I took a look through the TV
offerings and not find much, not a big surprise due to the time of day. Instead I read my book and listened to music. I did enjoy having the PTV with the moving map, it's a feature I missed last week on UA
I took a Coke and Biscoff for the snack service. The BOB option was only offering breakfast items due to our departure time. I would have had something if they offered lunch, but they did not, so I did not partake.
Around New Mexico the Captian made an announcement that we were expecting some turbulence for most of the remainder of the flight. He had warned us on the ground at San Diego about this, so it was not new news.
What was a bit of a surprise was that we had passed just north of Tuscon and now nearing San Antonio. We continued on a south routing, passing directly over Houston.
After we reached Texas the rest of the flight was pretty bumpy, bad enough the flight attendants could not do a full second service.
Even with our later departure out of SAN
and southerly routing, we still managed to land on 28 just before 3:00 PM
. The normal taxi from 28 got us into the gate at 3:15 PM
Won’t see this too often…
The map showing our southerly routing.
It will take a while to get used to seeing WN
