I'm intrigued by your FB status, with so few AF flights compared to LX, LH etc... Plenty of unreported KL ones?

Actually, that status was matched not earned. BA Gold was matched to FlyingBlue Platinum during last year's promotion.

Hi Philip,

Hi thanks for the reply.

Quoting JL418 (Reply 46):
Onwards to CDG: I guess, of all the major European hubs, is the one winning the infamous "Most hated" title, at least among us. I have to say, however, that I quite like it. Mind you, I have been there only once and got utterly lost looking for my terminal, so lost that one of the CRS had to wear is friendly face and escort me all the way down to the place I was looking for, but 2E looks rather peculiar and I really like its "true airport" feeling.

Yes CDG has a very bad reputation with many people and only now can I see the improvements that are desperately needed. Before these changes it was nicknamed ''Charles De Hell ''
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 47):
Hi Philip, great report! So glad you finally had a good experience on Air France.

Hey Jonas thanks for the response.

Quoting LH4116 (Reply 47):
So you work 7 days a week nonstop for 6 weeks? Wow you really are a hard working man

It rotates so I dont work 7 days lol... I work 5 x 7.5 hour shifts so doesnt work me too hard
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 47):
Very sorry to hear that. I'm guessing back in the days you didn't have status with them? hehe

Oh dont think it made a difference as my Father had status with them and they didnt care.

Quoting LH4116 (Reply 47):
Hmm, I still think the STAR PRIORITY tags look much nicer

Yes I agree they are much better .

Quoting LH4116 (Reply 47):
Were all visitors regardless of destination/cabin allowed to use the facilities?

I think so but it was closed so no one got it
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 47):
Did they have an additional buffet with the hot food?

Just cold food and no orange juice . I asked for a glass of Orange juice and they said they dont stock it .

Quoting Knightsofmalta (Reply 48):
So far I've never been too impressed with Air France but they appear to have improved, judging by your pictures. The meal looks rather tasty but it's a pity they have to serve it in such an ugly molded plastic tray.

Me too but this time it was certainly different. The food tray was not that bad I guess its Y EU service we have come to expect these days .

Quoting signol (Reply 49):
as a former AF employee I have, and will always have, a soft spot for them   My recent flights (1xreturn, 1x one way) have have always been good, the transfer experience varying from good to bad - 2E to 2F.

Hey thanks for the reply and interesting to hear about your AF history ! I knew an engineer who worked for AF at LHR T2 years ago .

Quoting signol (Reply 49):
Nice to see your favourite cafe offering a loyalty scheme - something for all the positive publicity you've given them on here?

Yes indeed not long now and I will get a free one   I guess its aimed at airport staff and frequent travellers like myself. Good idea.

Quoting LH4116 (Reply 50):
Actually, that status was matched not earned. BA Gold was matched to FlyingBlue Platinum during last year's promotion.

Indeed nice of AF to offer that freebie gives me a chance to try out the competition to Star

Hi Philip,

What a wonderful story. How nice to see that AF managed to impress you. I had only two flights with AF so far and they were great.

Quoting OA260 (Thread starter):
my Uncle wanted me to take a pair of special hi fi speakers that he wanted.

It is so amusing. Every time you come over to Greece, you get an exciting grocery list either from your uncle or aunt.

Quoting OA260 (Thread starter):
to visit my regular coffee house

Coffee?

Quoting OA260 (Thread starter):
I have a loyalty card here now   Another few visits and they owe me a free choice

As you will be their Platinum member then!

Quoting OA260 (Thread starter):
Soon time to head to the A Gates :

I like the Cityjet advertisement. Were you MrOA260 instead of 17A?

Quoting OA260 (Reply 1):
a CityJet flight and the service is normally good.

because of the feminine touch of the female CEO?

Quoting OA260 (Reply 1):
the FA

They sure have a lovely uniform.

Quoting OA260 (Reply 2):
Its stuck in the 90's in terms of design.

I would say, retro design!

Quoting OA260 (Reply 3):
The FA came to him before we pushed back and told him he could move to the row in front which was totally free as it would give us more space.
Quoting OA260 (Reply 6):
the crew really went out of their way to explain how to transfer.
Quoting OA260 (Reply 6):
I knew he was going to take me on a tour which I didnt need. Nice of him to ask though.
Quoting OA260 (Reply 6):
I woke up to find some snacks placed on my tray table

I love the proactive attitude of the staff members.

Quoting OA260 (Reply 3):
I usually turn my nose up at cold meals on over 3 hour flights but I was impressed by this .

In that case, I believe you!

Quoting OA260 (Reply 4):
My Cousin

How is he doing?

Quoting OA260 (Reply 6):
Being stripped of the Olympic Airlines livery :

Hopefully, she will find a new home soon.

Quoting OA260 (Reply 6):
Now your talking

Did you try all of them?

Thank you for sharing. Where are you going on long haul trip next time? South East Asia?

Warm regards,
Suryo

Hi and thanks for the reply. No its ok you are welcome to know . A few took the offer also. AF offered me a status match and then have also offered me a further one year extenstion on Elite Plus if I took just one flight Too good to refuse even if I dont fly them that much .

Still, I am quite curious at how you got your previous status on FB? Flying KL and City Jet?

I am also quite curious of your opinion as to the "improved" Miles&More accrual rates which Lh has just announced...

Indeed its a normal process for me now lol... Take for instance clothes in Marks and Spencers in Athens are often double the price of the UK stores . So it makes sense that I get them and they save 50% especially in these hard times.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 52):

Well no but the service was ok
Quoting akhmad (Reply 52):

He is doing fine at the moment always focused on his studies and future career prospects. He may go to the UK for a while but its not confirmed yet. His Mum doesnt want him to leave , typical parents lol...

Not sure yet lots of ideas and some miles to burn but options still open at the moment but something nice Im sure

Nope it was a status offer match they gave to various Elite members of other programs

I used to use CDG when I flew to Beirut but I refuse to transit there unless I have at least 3 hours in-between flights.
Time after time I would face the longest queues at the transfer desk. A few times I actually left the airport and checked back in with the other passengers. It was stressful. Never again!

Philip,

Always a treat to read your report, obviously you did not fly the same company I flew with in June 2011. I have a written a report but it is so insulting and demeaning to Air France that I preferred not to share it publicly.I did not want to risk a libel suit from Aeroports de Paris and Air France ( yes it was that bad)
But it is nice that you had a nicer experience than me , but I must that the "mere Poulard" thing is quite awfule as it is very sweet.
Keep up the nice work

Hi Philip!

Thanks for another report with very nice pictures !

Glad to hear you had a great experience on Air France, one of my favorite airlines. Great to see that they improved a lot since your last experience.

I agree that transferring at CDG is usually a very bad experience unlike at AMS. Transfer at LHR and FRA are only marginally better than CDG though.

You should definitely try AF long haul; they have really great food!

Looking forward to your next report!

I would never do less than 3 hours its just an airport that things take time.

I certainly can relate to that my bad experiences in the past were REALLY bad and enraged me also . I was looking at AF B777 once to flt to BEY but MEA won hands down.

Hi thanks alot . Im not a frequent flyer with AF/KLM I just took their offer of a free status match  I thought it would be a good idea to see what their current products are like. They will never be my choice all the time. Star offer everything I need .

Hi Philip

So what side trip did you take? Is it the new domestic leg to SKG by Cyprus Airways?

Hello Philip!

Thanks for the great story. AF and Cityjet looks both really good.Nice with a full meal on AF! I still have to try them  Really good pictures too. Love the design at CDG. Just what you except from a French airport ha ha!

I notice some OA Q200 parked on the apron in one of your pictures. So they are still fly theem? I thought they only had the Q400 those days!? I would love to fly the Q200 for the first time in Greece

One thing I think is unfortunate is that the AF lounge area at CDG shown above looks bland and boring (especially when comparing it to the new KLM lounges at Schiphol). That's unfortunate; CDG in general is architecturally very interesting, and much could have been done to ensure that the lounge was a showcase of that work, but it looks stuffy with low ceilings and not much color. It does look better than many of the lounges in the States, but that's not saying much at all, given the disappointing step down that air travel can be in the US.

The CDG AF lounge shown is in one of the old termnals, not at all like the long haul lounges in 2E which are MUCH better.
When all's said and done, there'll be more said than done.
