FLIEGER67 decided to visit Burgas this summer and I just couldn't miss this opportunity for the first mini a.net meeting in Bulgaria.
My original plan was to travel to Burgas by train and to fly with FLIEGER67 on the way back. Lucky for me Bulgaria air added one more flight to BOJ. Less than a week after this meeting was July Morning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_Morning) - another reason to fly to Burgas plus a very nice bonus - flight between VAR-BOJ. So lets start!

Sofia airport - many passengers.....

....but not any planes.

Vasil Levski stadium:

Usually the plane turns right over Stara planina (mountain) and goes straight ahead to Burgas, but this time captain decided to turn left on a longer and unusual way to BOJ due to storm in Sofia.

Lulin highway :

Kondofrey military airport. On this day was open as Sofia West Airport for commercial flights, but I couldnt see any activity down there.

this part of BOJ is specially reserved for Bulgaira air flights:

No pictures in the terminal building because of the last year sad event.

First meeting with a.netter in Bulgaria and short walk.

Perfect end for this great day!

We decided that its good idea to try walking from Burgas to Burgas airport ~ 7 km sea side walk.

Next morning
Burgas sea garden - Good start for our long walk to Burgas airport.

Mr FLIEGER67 noticed that there were 3 FB flights but only 2 FB planes. It turned that there will be 2 hours delay, but at least instead of A319 we fly on E190. Other view of this situation in his trip report.

Less then a week after my trip with FLIEGER67 again to Burgas for July Morning. This was third long way to reach Burgas airport, because the flight was via Varna.

Only 45 passengers from Sofia to Burgas plus two passengers from Varna. Bulgaria air sells tickets(30 euros OW) between Varna and Burgas but its very rear to see that someone actually flying between VAR&BOJ.

C O N C L U S I O N S

Bulgaria air - IMPO they have the most beautiful female flight attendants, new planes and sufficient leg room.

Burgas airport - very interesting visitors from all Europe, great views from the terrace and option to reach it on foot from Burgas makes it very special for me.

Nice to see these trips to BOJ, great to have met Markus at home. I think he is one of the great a.net ambassadors.

FB seems to offer a decent service on these short hops, nice you got to try different types of airplanes.

Nice insight of BOJ airport and the city itself, a town I had never heard of before the tragical incident that took place last year.

What a great idea to have such a nice terrace overlooking the tarmac, an a.netter delight!

BTW, FB fly SOF-BCN-SOF on Saturdays only, W6 4 flights per week and VY twice a week.

Thank you for very interesting report. Bulgaria is one of my favorite countries in Europe, warm and welcoming people and everything is dead cheap!

Bulgarian airlines are very popular around here, with increasing number of tourists visiting Bulgaria from Israel year after year, in spite of the horror terror attack a year ago. I personaly hope to visit Varna around septermber, and my first ever TR here was from BOJ: First Sun D'or Pax TR TLV-BOJ (new Link To Pics) (by EL-AL Sep 12 2009 in Trip Reports)

I had no idea there are flight VAR-BOJ! I might hop on one myself if the price is indeed that low.

This is a very nice trip report and I enjoyed it. Funny thing is that I travelled many times between Belgrade and Sunny Beach in 2011 and several times all the way to Varna, but always by bus. This is a completely different perspective.

Speaking of BOJ, do you have more pics of those Soviet classics? Also, I haven't seen any Ruslans in your pics, but they were such a common sight. Do they still fly via BOJ?

Unfortunately no, this summer only Belavia uses such planes on their charters to Bulgaria. And yes Ruslans still fly via BOJ, but not everyday that's way I dont have such pictures.
