I had to fly to Europe for business. Fortunately, the company that I was consulting for had a good business class policy that allowed for business class in transatlantic flights. Otherwise, I’d be banking on my upgrades or miles to get into business class. I decided to try the LH A380. I really have heard so much about it, but had not gotten the opportunity to try it.

I was also there in FRA during the Frankfurt auto show, so I decided to make my lay-over into 10 hours instead of the usual 2-3 hours, so I could go see the show. It was very nice. I only had time for one exhibit since this place is massive, and I had to see the new Mercedes Benz S class. It is a car that apparently can drive itself. I start off at SFO, and they make us use the United lounge, since there is no LH lounge here. Of course, the carrot sticks and crackers are still here:

After the lounge, I get on board on the upper deck. Unfortunately, I don’t have photos of the boarding, but you can see the boarding process in the video, which shows how they do upper deck & lower deck boarding. I settle nicely for a glass of champagne:

After take off, LH serves nuts from a package. They aren’t warm, but they are quite tasty. I have a glass of red wine also.

Afterwards, I prepare to have chicken appetizer. It was very good.

I then have the chicken entrée (yes, lots of chicken). It was very very tasty. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Dessert was fairly standard with ice cream and the chocolate was quite good also. But it was probably too much in terms of the sweets. I think one or the other would have been fine.

I was not able to sleep much, so I watched movies. The flight is very nice, but it’s really a shame that they have the angled lie-flats in their “flagship” A380. The business class product would have been so much better with a true lie-flat. I know that it wasn’t out when the A380 was around, but LH should have just waited. It’s unfortunate.

After a short nap, I was able to have breakfast. They served cold cuts and some eggs. This was totally fine, and very tasty. I was happy with it.
After the landing, I then went to the FRA arrivals lounge, which is a real nice perk when arriving at the airport. They have showers there also, good food, and wi-fi. I then went off to the auto show and checked it out. For details of that, please see my commercial-free video:

I guess I think it looks more "United" and less "Swiss/Austrian/Turkish."

Another excellent report! I have always been a huge fan of LH, however, their J is well due for an upgrade. SAS from SFO or NZ from LAX would be nice to try out on your way to Europe.

Thank you. Yes, I would like to try the SAS product one day. I hear they are angled lie-flats, which does not appeal to me so much since I just did this on LH, but it's a definite option since I've never tried it. Thanks.

Shame to see LH installed their old C class in their A380s. The food looks pretty good, although not overwhelming. Nice to see some footage of the car show as well, it looks massive!
