Tue Jul 15, 2014 6:03 pm

Dedications, dedications?. Maybe the hotel in Athens, or the staff, or Greece itself?. Well, who knows!

Scheduled: 10.00 // 11.05

Here are the actual checked airports:

And the previous examples:

A leisurely late departure it is, what means up at 05.15 am. Riding down with the office crowd for "Flughafen Stuttgart´s" P0.
The car knows the way and me, too, at least I hope so!.
Checking the screen first, isn´t it?.
My machine is inbound a couple of minutes early and outbound looks like ok from gate 316, too
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014009_zps68b5cb43.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014010_zps11a9943a.jpg
No lounge used here.
Well, I´am sure, I´am really sure to see something new today, an equipment change, maybe a wetleased plane and if not at least a new registration!.
Opodo ensures the ticket details, 30.00 Euro´s is the fare with the one way booking.
My seat is OLCI selected by the mobile app, it works and the paper is printed here at the airport at the SSK´s. Cost saving, isn´t it?.
Ahem, what´s this out there?
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014011_zpsa79d0114.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014012_zps3f42c953.jpg
Now I should write a letter of complaint to this company.
I know this bird, I know this bird well
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014013_zps9102ac56.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014014_zpsa314224f.jpg
Ok, this is the A319 like on schedule, but why oh why exactly this machine. Delta-Alpha-Bravo-Golf-Kilo carries no indivudal name, it´s leg no. 106 on type and no, just by surprise, this is nothing new to the log.
Done on TXL-STR and STR-DUS twice before during the last three weeks.
In the air and around with airberlin and Niki since 03.04.2008.
7 examples are in the fleet and there are no stories to show here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014015_zps05ffeaa1.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014016_zps7aa2db71.jpg
09.50 am, 10 minutes ahead to schedule, "airberlin", 45 minutes and departure from "Two-Five".
Just the 1 positive degree, wet it is after snow.
Cockpit crew is from Germany, the "Pilot" with a detailed welcome during boarding. The crew is introduced by name.
No route or flightlevel details.
Up we go and as usual, Tripreporter style, in the completely wrong direction!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014017_zps19723748.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014018_zpsc14a10e4.jpg
Cabin crew is all female, one asian middle aged ok, one younger, biz at it´s best and one middle aged, black hair, ok
24A and three for me.
The load is just 50% and the ramper confirmed, the flight is close to everyday inbound fully loaded and sometimes see also the A320.
A group of carnival style dressed women is on the plane, loud and obviously well prepared for the
"Weiberfasnacht" in Dusseldorf!.
Blue grey leather seats, clean it is and the legroom is ok.
Not to talk about the man with the hat!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014019_zpse0489dba.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014020_zpsa09556cb.jpg
So far so good with AB, give me a "Rosinenbrötchen" every day, ok, some free drinks maybe, too
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014021_zps92e94374.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014022_zpsb390334c.jpg
Just a couple of clouds close to my destination
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014023_zpse9527b18.jpg
Touchdown at "Dusseldorf Airport", runway "Two-Three-Left", 3000 meters at 10.45 am, 20 minutes ahead to schedule and 6 partly cloudy degrees.
And once again, I´am the only one for a connection and much better, not for an AB connection. But the bus driver take´s it the cool way!.

And it looks like ok, too

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014029_zpsdab5f5af.jpg
With the previously announced cost cutting measures it was also important to catch a boarding pass, what works well at the gate, staffed by a nice young woman
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014030_zps36001b4a.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014031_zpsaf40111f.jpg
Cockpit crew is from Greece. The "Pilotos" with detailed infos inflight and once again short prior to descent.
Routing is FRA-NUE-KLU-ZAG-SJJ-Pogdorica at 33000 and further till 35000 feet.
Leaving the "Dusseldorf Airport" at
12.50 am, ontime, 2.20 hours by "Aegean" from the very same runway like arrivals. "Two-Three-Left", 8 degrees and partly cloudy it is

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014033_zpsf9d9ecf4.jpg
The cabin with the dark blue leather seats is well used and call the legroom ok.
Well loaded it is, mostly greek pax, very close if not 100%.
34D for me, the last row aisle and all seats are taken here, too
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014034_zps90a62de3.jpg

Service is sweets and free drinks, a hot meal and coffee, tea, impressive.
Ahem, not that I´ve talked about these historic monuments, nothing else, trust me, sometimes ago
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014038_zps8bfc18ca.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014039_zps0ee19f98.jpg

What happens in between, I don´t know, but from one second to the other we are at the "Thessaloniki International Airport Makedonia
Διεθνής Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Θεσσαλονίκης Μακεδονία" with such a soft touchdown at the 2410 meters runway "One-Six", impressive.

Call it a pit stop.
No need to leave the plane.
And also interesting, most DUS pax disembarked here at SKG.
Time for some talking with the FA´s and a view from the rear door.
The whole crew started at ATH this morning 6.30 am, briefing, preparations for the four legs along the day, max. 5 legs are possible and one young male FA joined us here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014044_zps8210968a.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014045_zpsd2a8e0a8.jpg
The fare here is fixed again with Opodo, 60.00 Euro´s
and the paper is also good for ATH
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014046_zps4482421f.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014047_zpsf9150d59.jpg
Air Serbia, now that sounds interesting
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014048_zpse922ac03.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014049_zps0e703784.jpg
And on the way again, leaving the
"Thessaloniki International Airport Makedonia
Διεθνής Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Θεσσαλονίκης Μακεδονία" at
5.10 pm, ten minutes ahead to schedule, "Aegean" and 35 minutes to fly. Departure from runway "One-Six" like arrivals, 13 degrees and just a few clouds around
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014050_zps330d4abc.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014051_zps5090ab88.jpg
With the modern style cabin, no changes by the way and this is leg
no. 32 on type now.
The load is very close to 100%, lot´s of biz people on the way.
34D for me again and also again, all three seats are taken.
Well, the few DUS to ATH pax who decided to change seats, also when the lead FA commented that there are new pax ahead are not that really amused to return to the original seats earlier, but that´s the way to go here!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014052_zpsd9f3eb1e.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014053_zpsb1e37f38.jpg
Service is sweets, free drinks and a chocolate cookie. The routing is via Skiathos, I should go there somedays, definitely, at 21000 feet!.
Some details to follow
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014054_zps1faa73b1.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014055_zpsd02f3c4e.jpg
This one for me please!

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/FLIEGER67/GB0903/GRFEB2014057_zpsdcc8d9b2.jpg

It is, welcome to "Athens International Airport

Well, should I really go to sleep tonight with all these magic signs around and well, too, some more talking with the nice woman at the hotels desk doesn´t help to extend my time to sleep!.

Here are the conclusions from day one around Greece:
1.)Airberlin STR-DUS: What about flying something else somedays?.
2.)Aegean DUS-SKG: As relaxed as a full service might be.
3.)Aegean SKG-ATH: Short and quiet for the capital.

And more to come this way.
Are you sure?. This is definitely not a greek coat of arms:

Hey Markus

Great report on A3. Glad you had nice flights. Not bad for the price catering wise. I feel they could make the inside of the box a bit more appealing though without extra expense.

A3 are coming along nicely and continue to excel both in their route expansion/customer service and profits ! Its been a very good Summer for Greece in general so far. Hope this trend continues next year too. Also Athens Airport is recovering very well since the crisis hit and big airlines are increasing routes and frequencies.

Nice pics of Monastiraki by night

Thank you and a bit larger might be nice, also my opinion.

Nice to be able to read a report about an airline I have never flown (and unfortunately have no plans to fly with in the foreseeable future) yet hold Star Gold status with them

Cheers

Hi Markus,

Finally I’ve got round to reading your report. Greece, Aegean, it doesn’t get much better, does it? I so enjoyed seeing your pictures of Athens, there are so many things I recognise despite having only spent an hour there last month.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Never been to Greece for a couple of years and yes, I´am impressed!"

Greece is a must-do at least once a year!

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
A group of carnival style dressed women is on the plane, loud and obviously well prepared for the
"Weiberfasnacht" in Dusseldorf!.

A reason to avoid DUS in February….

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Just a step for the Hugo Junkers Lounge, a familiar place it is these days.
And further for gate B27.

Familiar? You know you're going there too often when the staff recognise you.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Well loaded it is, mostly greek pax, very close if not 100%.
34D for me, the last row aisle and all seats are taken here, too

Great to see such good loads on a weekday flight in the winter.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Service is sweets, free drinks and a chocolate cookie. The routing is via Skiathos, I should go there somedays, definitely, at 21000 feet!.

I can recommend it
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Whatever Acropolis view means with my hotels room description?

It seems the view fits the description.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
There are fleas on offer here, really!

And hundreds & hundreds of pairs of greek leather sandals, I bet!

Happy flying

Markus,

Catching up slowly and finally found the time to study this new report of yours. A couple of quiet but nevertheless enjoyable flights on AB and Aegean. The A321 looks pretty nice inside!

Whatever that thing is, it sounds like party time to me

Good to see Aegean not cutting costs and doing the full catering job

Quote:
Well, the few DUS to ATH pax who decided to change seats, also when the lead FA commented that there are new pax ahead are not that really amused to return to the original seats earlier, but that´s the way to go here

They learned the hard way

Hi Markus,

Good read and pictures as usual, enjoyed this over lunch today.

Quoting FLIEGER67 (Thread starter):
Cabin crew is all female.
One younger, brown hair, nice talking during boarding.
Another younger, also nice,
one elder and nice,
one middle aged, dark blonde, slim, really nice
and another middle aged, red hair ponytail, slim, ahem, really nice.

- I think you should do group pictures with the crew like Roni and Sam do.

Cheers

Mark
