Lufthansa's New Lounge At The Queen's Terminal

Background

This flight came into existence because of the need for a positioning flight to Frankfurt in order to take my TG flight home to Singapore. The TG flight was a result of me pushing back its original date from May to October as I chose to fly Qatar Airways home at that time instead. While my initial plan was to wait for BA to release some LHR-FRA award seats, I later found out that Lufthansa would be moving to the Queen’s Terminal (Terminal 2) just 6 days prior to my flight, and opening its brand new lounge there, its largest outside Germany.

“Oooo…” I thought to myself gleefully. “Why not take this flight and check out terminal 2 and the lounge?”

Besides, flying a Star Alliance carrier eliminated the need to re-check in my luggage at Frankfurt as I could interline it all through. With that decision made, I was all set!

However, 3 days before my flight, my plans completely changed! My fiancée and I decided that I would return to Europe in December and we would visit France and Italy, as opposed to us heading down to Australia as originally planned. A quick search revealed a relatively cheap, possibly error fare on British Airways routing FRA-LHR-SIN-LHR-CDG, with the LHR-SIN segment in World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) and the rest in Economy. Without further ado, I pushed my TG flight back again (3rd time!!) and booked my BA flight.

With that new plan, my route today would essentially be LHR-FRA-LHR-SIN

The Lounge

I disembarked The Airline coach from Oxford at Heathrow Terminal 5 in order to do an early bag drop for my LHR-SIN that night. No questions were asked as to why I had yet to fly the FRA-LHR leg. This was done quickly, and I headed down to take the Heathrow Express over to Terminal 2. My fiancée was with me so picture snapping was kept to a minimum for now

Zone A

We ate breakfast at Costa Coffee, and with 45 minutes left to departure, she finally released me. It was the usual hugs and kisses and lots of tears affair; 9 weeks before we would meet again…    (or so we thought then

Entrance to security

I strode confidently through the fast track security, assuming my Star Gold status would allow me entry. Upon reaching the automated gantries, I placed my mobile phone face down onto the scanner.

*Red Light*

Uh oh… Maybe my screen was dirty or something

Let’s try again!

*Red Light*

Oh crap!! I’m doomed to do the walk of shame back out to the general security queue!!!

But first I approached the lady sitting at the desk whose job (I presume) was to aid passengers who received the red light.

“Any problems, Sir?” she asked me as I approached.

“I’m Star Alliance Gold, can I come through?” I inquired.

“May I see your card please, Sir?”

Thankfully, I had it in my wallet and fished it out for her to see. She beeped my iPhone before keying something into her computer.

“Please proceed ahead, Sir,” she said, smiling.

Phew!! I took my phone, thanked her, and proceed through a completely empty fast track security. In no time, I was airside into the brand new Queen’s Terminal!

Looking to the right, there're no Galleries South Lounges or Concorde Room to block the way here..

And a view to the left..

With no directions available, I took the chance and headed left today, down the escalators into the main concourse.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/1970685_10152799460044540_3903919506951971705_n.jpg?oh=6bf61c42a69d64ab4f69e10103a86ce9&oe=54E54ADC&__gda__=1421487500_63551eed21b735704bbf5d1f36c35a42

It only occurred to me after snapping this photo that passengers aren’t made to walk through duty free in T2 and T5

In my quest to look for the Lufthansa Lounge, I found that most signs only pointed out where, for example, lounge “A1” or lounge “B2” were. None of them told me which lounge was run by which airline! Eventually though, I did find one useful sign.

https://scontent-a-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/10270312_10152799460274540_8261216172397232048_n.jpg?oh=3eb3d50a00424153dd26ba60c512508a&oe=54AAD974
The blacked-out sign is the unopened SQ lounge I presume

https://scontent-a-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/l/t1.0-9/1965063_10152799460259540_1311823103839235512_n.jpg?oh=9416c980d867ef9c8aa1749b064c3c02&oe=54E320F1

So I headed in the direction pointed. Along the way I checked the screens and noticed a delay for my flight. Hmmm... The sign eventually led me back up a set of escalators.

https://scontent-a-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/10405314_10152799460604540_6297360634234823611_n.jpg?oh=dc5c094c873b1e3514e62fee870c3b48&oe=54EA68E7

Ironically, this meant that after security, I could have simply turned right and I would have ended up at the Lufthansa Lounge #facepalm. No need to head down and walk one big round ala BA Galleries South lounge #tipoftheday

https://scontent-b-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10154234_10152799460614540_5001073929466774493_n.jpg?oh=ec94c74886372dccebed34e403fbe26a&oe=54B0ED17

Upon entering the lounge, I headed straight up to the counter and was greeted by an extremely polite gentleman. I handed over my mobile phone, while my Star Gold card wasn’t required.

*tap tap tap* on the keyboard.. A couple of seconds later, he returned my phone and placed a curious, completely blank white card on the counter.

“Welcome to the Lufthansa lounge Sir. Thank you for waiting. Inside here you’ll find the Business Lounge, and right at the end is the entrance to the Senator Lounge. All you have to do is pop this card into the machine, and the doors will open for you. No announcements will be made for your flight, so please do monitor the screens for your gate assignment. Enjoy your time here, Sir!” he said.

I took the items and thanked him, before heading into the lounge. Immediately, I was greeted with a welcome drink and a welcome snack packet!

Apologies for the lousy photo

Immediately upon entering, a large magazine rack awaits you on the left.

https://scontent-b-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10710720_10152799461669540_3503054118049549445_n.jpg?oh=2c69727b6390c8066ef1bb9951f73504&oe=54BB25CF
Photo taken looking back towards the entrance

Directly opposite the rack on the right are these little booths for you to make telephone calls, I presume (no pay phones inside though, in case you were wondering)

https://scontent-a-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/10711061_10152799461594540_8010396273004365399_n.jpg?oh=f94134aefba18983cd82bc119bfe0599&oe=54B16381

Next to the booths was a huge meeting room of sorts. Its existence is a bit mind-boggling if you ask me.

Further in, it was the Business Lounge.

Finally, right at the end, was the pair of doors leading to the Senator Lounge.

Looks mysterious...

Before heading inside, I decided to sit out here for a while. All this time, I had been furiously whatsapp-ing my sister back in Singapore who was expressing incredulity at my crazy travel itinerary for the day. She couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that I would be travelling from London to Frankfurt, only to head back to London again.

https://scontent-a-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/1653872_10152799462244540_2128272830631514838_n.jpg?oh=ec09367b1f3575453781dfa100f9b30e&oe=54EEE1A7

It even looks a bit evil, doesn't it?

Decorative Fruit Plate. And my curious white card

Well soon enough, I decided the anticipation was too much to bear, so I headed over and popped my card into the machine. After a pause, the card was devoured into the depths of the aluminum tower, and the doors parted to reveal the mystery beyond…

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1902990_10152799463394540_5882849936556445203_n.jpg?oh=d23797332bd956c46633a6653effe782&oe=54F615E0&__gda__=1424225162_336a9baa08c8acfbe40ec94a9bfe84dc
Hm, wait. Didn’t I just see this just now??

It turns out that the Senator Lounge offers pretty much the same things as the Business lounge. The only difference is that it’s smaller, has more staff to wait on you, and… ok that’s about it. At this hour, it appeared to be even more crowded, perhaps due to the lesser number of seats.

https://scontent-a-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/1798409_10152799463399540_8534228924149440578_n.jpg?oh=4a596ebd8f256a7af0c9ef8dacf14bdf&oe=54B093F8

I first had to use the toilet, which was nice, clean and modern.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10698490_10152799464439540_7855508216797148686_n.jpg?oh=e718751f1063ef71a460aafc523eed6c&oe=54B871B4&__gda__=1425161425_52ee7d64de5f32b31022a296ced0cbe9

Then, for the sake of this trip report, I grabbed myself a bit of food and coffee, just to have a taste.

One coffee machine was out of order, and the other had run out of milk. I highlighted this to a waitress, who immediately apologized and informed me that she would deliver my cappuccino to my table.

https://scontent-b-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1524600_10152799464469540_2177175243315005070_n.jpg?oh=4bb67442c16180179ccd1a832bd2de88&oe=54F20D12
Scrambled eggs and mushrooms were not too bad

By this time, my flight was showing a half hour delay, so I had some time to look into the nooks and crannies of the Senator Lounge.

https://scontent-b-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/v/t1.0-9/10291096_10152799464459540_5262254791301559033_n.jpg?oh=45cb31631b47986c207e1ead1a758595&oe=54F35C6E

Well, might as well try their wine too eh?

There was also a section with a long sofa with tables for individuals. I didn’t snap a photo of this because an extremely nasty looking man kept shooting angry glances in my general direction once in a while. I didn’t want to get killed.

I spent the rest of my time just relaxing and looking out of the window watching aircrafts take-off. The runway is situated right next to the Lufthansa lounge, but large grills make it impossible to take any photographs.

Annoyingly, the only screen in the Senator lounge was placed in the weirdest position – facing the entrance to the toilet, away from the seats. Anybody who wanted to check on their flight had to leave their seats and walk up to the screen   . Eventually, the gate for my flight was displayed, so I decided it was time to leave and just loiter around at the concourse till it was time for boarding.

View of Business Lounge immediately upon exiting Senator Lounge

I exited the lounge and proceeded to my gate, A17. It was located near the main concourse area so it wasn't a far walk at all.

Lounge Conclusion

All in all, I felt that the lounge was very nice. There're tons of seats, with a variety of styles to suit whatever mood you're in (Feeling lazy? Want to do work? Want to eat? Want to bring your entire board here for a meeting?) The food and drinks offering were more than decent and I'm pretty sure anybody who wanted a full meal here would have no trouble doing so. The decor was warm and soothing, and the lounge was quiet and cosy. If you have access to the Senator Lounge, my suggestion would be to pop in to have your meal where the service might be a little bit better, and hang out at the Business side where it is much larger and much more spaced out. Remember though, that your white card gets eaten once you enter the Senator Lounge so make sure you only leave when you want to!

Hello there...

Finally, boarding commenced. Priority and non-priority queues were segregated quite distinctly and placed far apart from each other.

Lufthansa
LH 903
LHR-FRA
Airbus A320
D-AIPS (This aircraft is older than I am!!!  Wow!)
Seat 5A

Status and Priority Boarding displayed quite clearly on my mobile boarding pass

With the clear layout on my boarding pass, it was easy for the gate agent to enforce priority boarding.

Having just experience BA's new short-haul seats, Lufthansa's seats looked uninspiring in comparison. I made the mistake of plonking myself down, because the padding on these seats were almost non-existent! Owwww...

Thinness of the seat back still amazes me

My seat mates, a couple, soon arrived. Eventually, a little drama unfolded as another passenger claimed to be in Seat 5C, where the husband was seated. They attempted to fish out their boarding passes but couldn't find them. The other passenger literally rolled his eyes and disappeared to the rear of the aircraft. When they finally found their BPs, it turns out they were seated in 5B and 5E!

"Well I'll just ask him to sit in 5E later..." the husband muttered to his wife.

Lol, good luck with that, dude.

And then a while later...

Neighbour got replaced

Boarding was eventually completed. At this point, the passenger returned with an FA, who requested for the BPs of my seat mates. Ooo busted! Drama number 2 unfolded here. Of course the passenger refused to sit in 5E, so the husband moved over. Now it was time for the passenger in 5F to speak up!

"You're sitting here?? Well I'm a Senator and normally they block the seat next to me!" he said loudly and incredulously.

Well that's awkward

He huffed and grabbed his jacket from 5E and placed it into the overhead bin. My seat mate's husband sat down awkwardly in 5E, having seemingly offended most of the passengers around him. Ah well. Moral of the story? Check in online!! (if you can)

Push back soon began as we were welcomed on board by our captain. He apologised for the delay but gave no reason for it.

Hopefully I'll be on a similar aircraft in December in Seat 1K

It was a dreary day and our delay was reaching an hour. At this point, I was glad that I wouldn't be rushing to connect onto my TG flight home. I had timed a 1hr 40 min connection which would have been reduced to just 40 mins with this delay!

Couple of shamrocks

We soon turned onto the active runway and began our takeoff roll.

Video of take-off!

Wow the CFMs have the most annoying sounds of all engines out there!! They were so loud and jarring!!    We had a nice view of Terminal 2 today as we climbed into the sky, but the raining weather made turbulence rather bad which explains the very shaky camera.

The on board service started pretty soon after that. First, we were given a choice of snacks. I chose the pain au chocolat.

A while later, the trolley came by and we were served drinks. I tend to order two at one go because one cup is always not enough.

This flight was short and simple. I plugged in my headphones and just listened to music as we cruised towards Frankfurt.

It wasn't much longer later that the pilot came on the PA to announce that we had begun our descent.

We soon reached our gate. Along the way, a flight attendant made announcements for passengers who had been rebooked onto new flights due to the delay. By the sounds of it, some passengers would have a good 6 hours to loiter around in Frankfurt Airport

Quite quickly, the doors were opened and it was out of the aircraft!

Thanks for the quick ride!

With my long layover, I was in no hurry to get anywhere so I walked leisurely. I had to make my way over to Terminal 2, where BA would depart from.

As the signs didn't explicitly state "Terminal 2", I approached the desks to be certain. I was directed to walk down an Über long corridor...

3 Hours left?

Wanna Shop, Eat, and Relax at Terminal 2?

Take the Skyline.

And with that, I went up the escalators to see what was in store for me!

RE: Lufthansa's New Lounge At The Queen's Terminal

Mon Oct 27, 2014 1:24 pm

Hi pokfur!!

Great report about my favourite Airline, as well as my favourite lounge!

Havent seen any pics yet of the LHR lounge of LH, but in the pics, it looks exactly like the new FRA senator lounge (pier A).

Quoting pokfur (Thread starter):
At this hour, it appeared to be even more crowded, perhaps due to the lesser number of seats.

That's the standard issue of LH lounges, Star Gold/Senator lounges are always even more crowded than their business lounges, it appears to be strange, but its usual on LH
Quoting pokfur (Thread starter):
Status and Priority Boarding displayed quite clearly on my mobile boarding pass

I am always interested in FFP, so which *G you have? I am quite sure to identify A3 on your mobile BP

thanks for the report again, great impressions of the lounge!!

greetings
Elias

Another enjoyable report, thank you. You seem to be really moving around a lot as of late.

Both Lufthanansa and the new LHR T2 are something I have yet to expirience, The LH breakfast looks similar to what I had on my MAN-MUC flight with SQ earlier this month and that was nothing to complain about. Do LH aircraft have any kind of moving map display on there like BA?

Hello Elias!

Ah that's nice! I've only flown Lufthansa short-haul, so I don't think my experience is that representative. Wouldn't mind trying them long-haul one day, but unfortunately they're not that high on my list though. Also, prices not that competitive ex-SIN.

Quoting emek96 (Reply 2):

I'm a bit confused by your statement    I thought the point of my whole report was to feature the LHR lounge of LH!    Is there a new Senator Lounge in FRA? I was through FRA in January this year and the new AC Maple Leaf lounge was suggested to me then...

Quoting emek96 (Reply 2):

So I've heard somewhere before, but this was my first time experiencing it haha. I wonder why they still make it the smaller lounge then. Or do you think it's just an illusion?

Quoting emek96 (Reply 2):

Indeed you're absolutely right! It's just about the only one that was reasonably within my reach. It would have been ideal to be a Krisflyer Gold, but that would have taken ages and millenniums, and yet, I would still be below in priority to all the PPS members. Pity A3 is moving to an 'enhanced' program, but the threshold is still relatively low especially for current Gold members

Quoting emek96 (Reply 2):

Hello Shuttle12T!

Haha thanks!! Nah it's just a couple of flights all squashed into one week. Although, I did just get off another plane yesterday...

Quoting Shuttle12T (Reply 3):

They're both quite nice. Not overwhelmingly must-do but I felt that the extra couple of £s I paid to take LH instead of BA was worth it to see the terminal and lounge at least once.

Quoting Shuttle12T (Reply 3):

Really? That's such a shame actually. I would have thought SQ would serve a hot meal! I believe that even on our short SIN-CGK routes, a hot meal is served.

Quoting Shuttle12T (Reply 3):

Certainly not on this one, bearing in mind that D-AIPS is 24.3 years old  Wow! Not sure if newer birds have them though; only been on LH twice, and my other flight was on an old birdie too.

Thank y'all for stopping by!!

You are right, longhaul flights often are overpriced. But SQ is also highly overpriced out of SIN ?

When you have been to the AC lounge in FRA, it was the B-part of T1. But yes, there is a new Senator lounge in FRA in the A-part of T1. It opened in late 2012. As I mentioned, it is exactly the same. Have a look in one of my older reports, there I uploaded some pics of it:

Gruezi, Swiss Business FRA-ZRH-CDG (by Emek96 Apr 3 2013 in Trip Reports)?threadid=236096&searchid=236096&s=gruezi#ID236096

Quoting pokfur (Reply 4):

In terminal 1A in FRA, the Senator lounge indeed is bigger than the business lounge.

I also did hear about the ''new'' A3 program. I think, as you mentioned, it is not very difficult to retain the gold status, but in addition they offer much better service than e.g. upgrade vouchers etc. I generally don't like the program of SQ as everything under PPS club has the the value of (next to) nothing.

Being the peasant that I am...can't tell much of the difference between the Business and the Senator lounges. I mean if they're going to restrict your entrance to one time only, I expect the land of milk and honey behind the door...

(That's why I read trip reports though; never fly enough to be able to gain entry into ANY lounge.)

Quoting pokfur (Reply 1):
"You're sitting here?? Well I'm a Senator and normally they block the seat next to me!" he said loudly and incredulously.

Oh who the @#$^$% cares.

I think most Canadians would just tell the senator to go pound sand (the senate is not exactly a beloved constitution for the Canadian masses.)

Quoting pokfur (Reply 1):
Ah well. Moral of the story? Check in online!! (if you can)

This reminded me something that happened few years back on a flight: I sat down at what I thought was my seat, as confirmed by my boarding pass issued from the counter, only to have another gentleman showing up with his counter-issued boarding pass with the same seat number. After a brief awkward, head-scratching moment, I told the FA just find me another seat since I didn't care much where I was sitting for that flight. The gentleman immediately said no no, find ME another seat, it's all good.

"I insist."

"No I insist."

I ended up remaining at the original (rather upfront aisle) seat just before the whole thing degenerated into Monty Python-esque comedy, judging by fellow passengers' smiles and snickers, and that gentleman went to almost the very back. I tried sending a drink to him in flight, but he's a teetotaler apparently. Upon disembarking he came up to shake my hand. Pleasure and peace was had by all.

Hello again Elias!

Quoting emek96 (Reply 5):
You are right, longhaul flights often are overpriced. But SQ is also highly overpriced out of SIN ?

It is. Almost all my flights on SQ are on redemption, courtesy of my parents. And when they do go on sale, it's still very difficult to find the exact flight you want; popular flights are either not reduced or sold out very fast. SQ also has a habit of offering two-to-go fares, which isn't useful for a solo traveller

My support of them has slowly waned, and I find myself flying a lot of other carriers when I'm not on a redemption ticket. oneworld carriers are my new friends!

Quoting emek96 (Reply 5):
Have a look in one of my older reports, there I uploaded some pics of it:

I just read it! And strangely, it actually looks familiar. I might have read it before, while doing research for my first ever transit in Frankfurt... You're right that the design between that lounge and the one in LHR is very similar!

Quoting emek96 (Reply 5):
In terminal 1A in FRA, the Senator lounge indeed is bigger than the business lounge.

Are the 1A and B parts connected? Can I go to the A side if my flight leaves from the B side?

Quoting emek96 (Reply 5):
I also did hear about the ''new'' A3 program. I think, as you mentioned, it is not very difficult to retain the gold status

24k miles on any Star carrier, or 12k miles + 4 A3 flights. Still more than their old threshold, but less than half of what Krisflyer would require (50k!), plus their accrual rates for some airlines are very good too.

Quoting emek96 (Reply 5):
I generally don't like the program of SQ as everything under PPS club has the the value of (next to) nothing.

Yes indeed. I might as well be a Star Gold on another carrier than slave away trying to reach Krisflyer Gold. Anyway, I've become a fan of oneworld and I think Emeralds are better recognised than a Star Gold. Also get to use First Class Lounge, check-in etc..

Thanks for dropping by again!

Lol my thoughts exactly. It's probably just to make those in the Senator Lounge feel more 'exclusive' and 'elite', rather than mixing with the 'masses' out there in the Business Lounge

Quoting CdnCactus (Reply 6):
(That's why I read trip reports though; never fly enough to be able to gain entry into ANY lounge.)

Hmmm... You should check out flyertalk.com. There're threads where you can send a request for lounge access, and if anybody happens to be taking a flight around that time, you can meet him/her and be guested in!

@pokfur

trying to wrap my head around this (mostly because I am an Indian passport holder who needs a visa everywhere) - you stayed airside in FRA, took the BA flight to LHR, and then stayed airside in LHR for your flight to SIN?

must say I am jealous  - I would love to try this myself sometime, some day

What a boring design for a lounge that is in a flagship airport. No style/ class at all. Far too industrial for my tastes and it screams cheap ikea furniture. It would have expected LH to come up with something a bit more upmarket.

Uh, yes I did   . Thankfully no passport control in FRA, so just had to get off the plane, transit to Terminal 2, then straight into the lounge and wait for my next flight back to LHR.

You'll find that doing this makes your overall journey cheaper on most airlines, especially when travelling in premium cabins where the savings become more substantial. The economics behind this is that - BA charges you less for the inconvenience of making a stop through its LHR hub, as opposed to flying direct with LH or SQ. On the other hand, it will charge you more for flying a direct LHR-SIN return. Therefore, (Europe)-LHR-SIN return is usually cheaper than just LHR-SIN return.

What you gain in cash savings and miles, you lose in time spent doing the 2 positioning flights. But...

If you clearly enjoy flying, then why not!!!

Hmmmm... I think that's the trend nowadays, isn't it? Simplistic and minimalistic. While it's no QR Al Mourjan Lounge, I thought it was quite a nice lounge in itself. Maybe my photographs aren't doing it justice. If it's any consolation, apparently the ones in FRA are similar, so it's not like they scrimped on LHR! I found it interesting that they invested so much into the lounge here, since LHR is so near FRA? But I suppose they encounter very high levels of Business traffic to warrant a proper LH lounge.

Oh god no! I don't think many can consider Houston a holiday destination by any means (dreadful city), but I did live there for a bit of my life and my interest in aviation began there and continues to this day. I live in the UK and regularly commute to IAH on BA (prefering the 197 for its quite arrival time and late departure time from LHR).

I suppose, yet I would have expected LH to have a bit of class in its furnishings of its new lounges (admittedly Germans are not known for their grandiose design- robust as their designs are). Yet when you look at the new UA lounge in The Queen's Terminal, aesthetically it kicks LH out of the water and, when compared to lounges like BA's Galleries Lounges, it completely lacks personality. I'm no fan of bling by any means (a la EK/QR) but understated elegance goes a long way in my mind.

What a great trip report!

Hey pokfur,

Thanks for a good story, good pics and good narrative   Thanks for showing us the LH lounge in the new T2, must say it does look appealing and spacious. Glad as well to see you travelling on the German national airline - one of my favourite airlines in Europe. Will be flying them in 2 weeks time as well

With that new plan, my route today would essentially be LHR-FRA-LHR-SIN

It only occurred to me after snapping this photo that passengers aren’t made to walk through duty free in T2 and T5

Well, I find T5 more of a shopping mall than an airport terminal. While the design is certainly nice, the layout and seating areas - especially in the middle part are a mess imho.

Oh oops!! USA is a little bit far off from Singapore, and the last time I was there was nearly a decade ago so I'm not too familiar with what's good for what! Haha. I'll be finally going there again this December though! And guess what's my main purpose of flying all the way there?    (not aviation related at all btw)

Quoting BA0197 (Reply 11):

Ah.    BA has become quite my favourite airline recently. I'm looking forward to my next couple of flights on them! My next TR is on BA's WTP!

Argh i wish I made the effort to check out UA's lounge, especially with my delay. But I wasn't too sure if the B lounges were in the same concourse? I was afraid I might have needed to take a train or something a la T5B.

Quoting BA0197 (Reply 11):

Yes I do agree that BA's Galleries at T5 are quite different from the style of LH's lounge... However, I suppose LH and BA are just different airlines with different personalities altogether (I didn't enjoy the service on board LH at all) so that comes through in the decisions they make and the designs they produce. I'm sure some people will love the new lounge, and some won't!

Quoting BA0197 (Reply 11):

Haha thanks again!! Nice to have some thought-provoking discussion with you, even if it's something as mundane as airline lounges...

Lol. Unfortunately, Lufthansa isn't high on my list of carriers at all. So far they've just been functional.. Hard product is also beaten by BA in my opinion (at least on short haul routes). Perhaps I should give them a go on long haul and see if they shine better then.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 12):
Now if you weren’t an a.nutter, I would declare you nuts - pun intended

And T2 seems to have replicated most of that mass seating-in-the-middle thing..    I've only had to hang out there once before though, hopefully never have to again    If you know what i mean....

Quoting sultanils (Reply 12):

Lol!! To be honest I can't quite remember. I'm sure it wasn't bad, otherwise I would have remembered haha!

Quoting sultanils (Reply 12):

Ah well.. The 'problem' with status is that passengers start to feel a sense of entitlement. Once the op ups, blocked seats etc happen, it becomes a surprise and a disappoint when the passengers get exactly what they paid for - a single seat in Economy!  Wow!

Quoting sultanils (Reply 12):

The Queens Terminal for sure looks great, can't wait to visit it myself next month. Thanks for sharing!

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, if you like Terminal 5 as well!

Very true. I have to say the lounge does fit in with the LH personality and I'm sure many will like it (what's really not to like when one has access to free booze   ) but it looks far too bland for my personal tastes.

Oh oops!! USA is a little bit far off from Singapore, and the last time I was there was nearly a decade ago so I'm not too familiar with what's good for what! Haha. I'll be finally going there again this December though! And guess what's my main purpose of flying all the way there?    (not aviation related at all btw)

One has to assume the oil or medical business- I will admit Houston has fantastic shopping and the food cannot be beaten!

Ah.    BA has become quite my favourite airline recently. I'm looking forward to my next couple of flights on them! My next TR is on BA's WTP!

If leaving from SIN, I hope you've secured yourself an A380 flight! WTP on the upper deck is an amazing place to be for the premium one pays.

Haha free booze... To some extent, I've always wondered why it's a 'must' to have hard liquor in lounges and on board aircraft. What is it about flying that makes it part of the product?

Lol! Nope, this trip is all about leisure! Hint: I'm going to Las Vegas to watch a famous pop star perform live!

Ah. My flight was on BA15 from LHR-SIN. It was the new WTP, but on the 77W. Even then, I was really quite impressed with the overall product and had a very enjoyable flight home! I can only imagine it'll be even better on the A380. Unfortunately, my upcoming planned flights on BA are all in Economy   2 of them on the 744 no less...

Hi Pokfur!

I've finally had the time to read this TR. Thank you again for taking the time to write it up.

The seats on this Lufthansa flight certainly don't compare to the ones you experiences of British Airways, but then again age is a big factor.

Really? Are they much older? I thought they were rolled out across the fleet pretty recently only..

Oh oh. The Lufthansa bird has certainly been refurbished since it was built! Even their 735s got refurbished with these same seats as well. But you're right that it has already been several years that this refit was carried out. Not sure exactly when it was done though but I remember reading about it.
