The day of the trip:
I set a couple of alarms to make sure that I got up. I actually woke up a few minutes before my alarm at 250AM. I was not too tired considering I went to bed at midnight. I got ready and we had about a 5 to 10 minute drive to SYR. My friend’s mom drove us and she dropped us off outside the DL curbside. We walked inside and checked in at the kiosk at 3:48AM. There were a few other people on line and the DL counter didn’t open until 4AM. Once we got checked in we walked down to go see a few planes then went up to security. We had to wait a few minutes to go through (it also didn’t open until 4AM). Once we were through security we got Dunkin Doughnuts and then went to go see the different planes. There are quite a few planes this early in the morning. After that we went to our gate and waited to board.

Around 530-535AM they began boarding. They started with First Class, Gold, Silver, Platinum, Pre board and then general boarding by zones. I was in the back in seat 18A ( Zone 3)

Boarding was pretty quick and we were ready to go 10 minutes early, but the pilots said we could not pushback until 5 minutes before departure. We pushed back at 5:55AM and the flight attendants did the safety demo. Once we were pushed back and the engines started we taxied to runway 28. We had to hold at the end for a FedEx A300 landing from MEM. Once they were cleared we turned onto the runway and began our takeoff roll. The DL MD90 to ATL took off right behind us and the B6 E190 to JFK right behind the MD90. The takeoff was not that powerful and within a few seconds we were in the air. At 2,200 feet the pilots checked in with departure and we were given a left turn and were cleared up to 10,000 feet. Within a few seconds of takeoff we flew into a broken cloud layer. You could still see the ground but it was covered by a lower of clouds. As we climbed we flew through some more clouds and then we were in the clear and had a smooth ride. A few minutes after departure ATC asked our pilots how are ride was. They responded “Uhhhh smooth we are on top of them now”. The controller then handed us off to Boston Center and we were on the way up to 21,000 feet and headed to LGA. Since it was such a short flight the Flight Attendants didn’t do any service. It was still dark out for most of the flight and as we began the descent it slowly started to get lighter out. The flight was very short and it went by really fast. Before long we were on the final descent into LGA. The flight attendants turned on the lights and came through the cabin once. We then made a right turn and flew the express way visual for runway 31. We followed a DL E170 from DCA flight 5900. We made a firm landing and the pilots exited the runway pretty quickly and the Flight Attendant “Welcomed us to Flushing, NY – LaGuardia Airport where the local time is 650AM”. We made a quick taxi to the gate and parked away from the terminal which meant we deplaned out on the ramp and took a bus to the terminal. It was a pretty quick layover. We got some food and then sat by our gate and waited to board.

When we boarded this flight, it was the same crew from the SYR-LGA flight. Once everyone was seated we sat at the gate for a few minutes. The pilot came on the PA and gave the spiel about flight time, weather and time of arrival. Once the door was closed, we pushed back and started up the engines. Runway 4 was the active for departures and 31 was for arrivals. We taxied away from the DL terminal and taxied past all the other terminals on the way to runway 4. I saw a UA 737 with split scimitar and some other planes. There about 7 or 8 planes in front of us and after about a 15-20 minute taxi, it was our turn to takeoff. The pilots taxied us on to the runway and began our takeoff roll. Once we were in the air we made a left turn right after takeoff and then made another left turn as we climbed through some clouds. There were a few bumps on the way out and once we got on top it was a smooth ride. Once we leveled off at our cruising altitude the Flight Attendants came through the cabin with the beverage cart and snacks. I got a sprite and a Biscoff cookie. The flight went by pretty fast and before long the pilot was telling us we were about 80 miles outside of CLT and told us the weather. It was a pretty straight in approach. The Flight Attendants came through to collect trash. A few minutes later we touched down on runway 23 and there was really heaving braking, the plane slowed down really fast. We then exited the runway and taxied to our gate. The crew after this had one more flight of the day. They were going CLT-MSP. They were MSP based and would be done with this trip once they landed at MSP.

The Museum was great. They had some old planes in addition to the last DL DC9 (N779NC). DL flew it’s last DC-9 from ATL-CLT and then donated it to the museum. They also had the US A320 (N106US) that landed in the Hudson River. That was really impressive to see and be able to get right next to see it and see all the holes in the plane, the cracked windows and see the plane in person. After the museum we went into a parking garage and went planespotting for a little bit before we went back inside and checked in and went through a very long ( 45 minutes- 1 hour) security line. There were a few people in front of us that had less than 45 minutes until there flight. As we approached the front of the line TSA announced they were opening another lane and for people from the back of that line to go to the other screening area. Once we were through security we got some food and then did some planespotting from inside the airport until it was time to board our next flight CLT-ATL.
