How fortunate we were to enjoy our latest adventure in Business Class and have a great pleasure of savoring global cuisines and meeting the world at 40,000 feet in A380 Onboard Lounge thanks to:

Senior Flight Stewardesses Joumana and Neguin;
Flight Stewardesses Theodora, Roza, Sigolene and Marinel for making us feel at home in the air.

I sincerely hope that Anosh (SR103), Ojas, AirIndia and Mas Juju will accept my dedication of Emirates Business Class experience to Dubai.

Last but not least, thank you so much to all of you for reading!

Great reading!

It's like ~6 hours flight is too short time to fly this way!

I'm flying EK A380 next week (oh well, in economy), and can't wait! I'll love taking off from BCN in such a big plane, being used to do it in 737's/320's...

note that I usually choose AMS as connection airport, and MD11 as plane to go in  ... but it's time to try something different!

Hello Suryo,

Nice to see this trip report on the EK A380. Looks like you were treated well, and the pics of the crew indicated you had a happy bunch!!

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Etihad A6-EYK and Emirates A6-EDI

Beauty and the beast...sorry I could not resist lol

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
A6-EDT

As I type this A6-EDT is over the Bay of Bengal on her way to SIN.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 2):
Onboard Lounge

Soon to become a watering hole later in the flight. I've heard it can get very noisy there, just like a real bar I guess. Being seated where you were would help considering how quiet the A380 is.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 2):
Tail camera view. Only one airbridge yet connected.

Ariel, where are you?? Holding the one airbridge for Ariel to board  .

Quoting akhmad (Reply 3):
Onboard Lounge in full swing

Ah as I was saying.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 3):
’As you delve into a selection of canapés,’

Very nice.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 4):
Lamb machbous, garnished with roasted pine nuts, served with a refreshing raita. Note the exclusive Robert Welch cutlery.

I wonder if it tastes like Kabsa which I had in EY J Class, seems like a close version to it. I know you also like Biryani too.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 4):
Note Godiva chocolate box.

Did that change into a white colour with the flash from it's original Golden lol.

PS: Nice to see more of the family  .

Hi Suryo.
As always, a great trip report with excellent photos.

Quoting akhmad (Reply 1):

It's a shame that Emirates does not have its own lounge in AMS but I guess that not being able to dine on the ground is more than made up for in the air. The meals look appetizing and generous portions.

Good to see that the cabin crew were willing to pose for photos with you as well as make your journey comfortable.

It has been a while since I have flown with EK. Reading your report almost makes me want to go online and book a flight.

Thanks for sharing.

Great report, Suryo. Looks like you had a wonderful flight with Emirates! Service in the air looks to be great, and I really like the wood paneling that Emirates does with everything. It looks very classy!

Looking forward to your next report.

Hi Suryo!

Great report first of all, EK seems to deliver a very good product.
Also nice to see that the FA working on your flight were amazing, its always nice to have such FAs!
What I also liked is the bar which EK operates in their A380s, especially on long haul flights, that must be a very nice feature.

thanks for sharing

Great Report as usual. Am already looking forward to my next EK A380 adventure in C flying MUC-DXB-BNE with a stopover in Dubai. Going to Germany, I'll be on their 777 all the way in C flying BNE (via Singapore) - DXB - HAM. All happening end of April next year for my yearly trip 'in die alte Heimat"

Hoi Suryo,

Thanks for this showcase of your flight to DXB and beyond in EK’s business class. All seems top notch and I’m happy to see you were the * on board - nothing else expected. The amount of food looks overwhelming  Wow!

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
When will we ever fly that way?

The Etihad way you mean? Next time hopefully

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
part from 24D, nope!

Clearly not if you want to sit closely togther in perfect harmony. No window seat though for you  But it seems that didn’t bother you much!

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
We should try these then!

Oh my, and enter the plane all tipsy    Nah - you wouldn’t be able to enjoy it all!

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Our choice

Perfect and so kind of Herman to offer you his tray.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
ote the sunscreen.

Oh, how I hate that! I want my apron view

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
You have your own mini bar

Cool! And stocked with drinks too. Do they refill during the flight as well?

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut champagne

Of course! (As if I have any knowledge about champagne lol!)

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
we offer you free Wi-Fi

Very good but you certainly don’t have to pay for it elsewise when seated in business class?

Hi Suryo,

great report with nice pictures! Good to see you here again. EK's hardware on the A380 is certainly impressive, but the meals don't look as excellent as usual.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
’Look at the complimentary drinks! How about premium soft drinks from The Coca-Cola Company brand?’

Premium? Really?

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
“Your seat is on the back close to the bar,”

Good choice, would also choose the rear section.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
“You have your own mini bar,”

I still don't see what's the purpose of such a bar when you cannot cool the drinks.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Herman’s Mojito

That looks great!

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Remote control and noise cancelling headset

I remember those. But I'm wondering what brand EK chose - LH has Bose QC15 headphones in First (among th world's best) and Sennheiser headphones in Business.

Seat Plus Bed: FRA-MCO, Lufthansa 744 First Class (by PlaneHunter Sep 1 2014 in Trip Reports)
D.C. Tour, UA First & LH 747-8 Upper Deck Business (by PlaneHunter Oct 26 2014 in Trip Reports)

Thanks again for sharing! I hope to see you here again more often.

Nice report Suryo. I flew my first few EK flights a few weeks ago. I got an upgrade to Business on one sector on the A380, which was great. The bar really is quite cool!

Do they really offer a choice of lounge access or a voucher? Interesting, and a nice choice to be given

Suryo!

Fantastic report, you sure know how to tell a story, but where was Ariel? is he on holidays? or perhaps he went on an EY reconnaissance mission?.

Flying the A380 sure is an experience, and much more on EK and in Business Class, I totally love the bar, and the crews sure made you feel welcomed (sporting the EK shirt may have helped too)

Thank you for sharing this story

Hi Suryo,

what a great report here, and what an enjoyable flight this must have been. Everything seems to be top-notch service here, and a great crew apparently, well done, EK. That onboard lounge and bar really looks cool, certainly wonderful to spent some time there during the flight.

Fantastic TR Suryo,

EK remains a top notch carrier which can be faulted. You faithfully transposed the overall atmosphere that one can feel onboard. First time i see an entire (cute) crew posing and smiling with a such freedom... well done for your skills!

Quoting akhmad (Reply 1):
“Do you wish to have lounge access or meal voucher? Unlike the lounges in Dubai, you cannot dine there. Only small snacks are available,”

Nice, actually dining before a long flight is always a difficult choice to make especially before flying business with EK...

LOL   .

Many thanks for sharing, looking forward to more

Quoting lychemsa (Reply 13):
Makes me want to fly Emirates in C class.
Quoting 767747 (Reply 15):
Looks like you had a wonderful flight with Emirates! Service in the air looks to be great,
Quoting emek96 (Reply 16):
EK seems to deliver a very good product.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
All seems top notch
Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
EK's hardware on the A380 is certainly impressive,
Quoting gabrielchew (Reply 20):
I got an upgrade to Business on one sector on the A380, which was great. The bar really is quite cool!
Quoting CaptainRed (Reply 25):
and what an enjoyable flight this must have been. Everything seems to be top-notch service here,

Lie-flat comfort, regionally inspired dishes, award winning inflight entertainment and conversation in A380 Onboard Lounge along with attentive crew members. What else could we ask for?

Looks like you were treated well, and the pics of the crew indicated you had a happy bunch!!
Quoting ElanusNotatus (Reply 14):
Good to see that the cabin crew were willing to pose for photos with you as well as make your journey comfortable.
Quoting emek96 (Reply 16):
Also nice to see that the FA working on your flight were amazing, its always nice to have such FAs!
Quoting MIAspotter (Reply 23):
and the crews sure made you feel welcomed
Quoting CaptainRed (Reply 25):
and a great crew apparently,
Theodora, Sigolene, Joumana, Roza and Marinel were just great.

Ariel, where are you??
Quoting MIAspotter (Reply 23):
but where was Ariel? is he on holidays?

He is actually involved in our conversation all the time and wonders whether you can guess which words are his.

**********************************************************

flightsimboy, eastafspot,

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
Holding the one airbridge for Ariel to board  .
Quoting eastafspot (Reply 26):
LOL   .

We indeed lost him for a while during that moment!

**********************************************************

Elias, Christian, CaptainRed,

Quoting emek96 (Reply 16):
What I also liked is the bar which EK operates in their A380s, especially on long haul flights, that must be a very nice feature.
Quoting MIAspotter (Reply 23):
I totally love the bar
Quoting CaptainRed (Reply 25):
That onboard lounge and bar really looks cool, certainly wonderful to spent some time there during the flight.

There is simply no better place to stretch our legs and meet other people at 40,000 feet.

**********************************************************

CaptainRed, eastafspot,

Quoting CaptainRed (Reply 25):
well done, EK.
Quoting eastafspot (Reply 26):
EK remains a top notch carrier which can be faulted.

Agreed!

**********************************************************

Miquel,

Quoting mighluss (Reply 7):
It's like ~6 hours flight is too short time to fly this way!

True! I wish we could have spent longer around the bar.

Quoting mighluss (Reply 7):
I'm flying EK A380 next week (oh well, in economy), and can't wait! I'll love taking off from BCN in such a big plane, being used to do it in 737's/320's...

How did you like it? What an excitement you must have had on board of EK A380!

Quoting mighluss (Reply 7):
note that I usually choose AMS as connection airport, and MD11 as plane to go in

What a lucky guy! I did not manage to fly MD11 when it was still around.

Quoting mighluss (Reply 7):
... but it's time to try something different!

Indeed, why not spice it up?

Hello flightsimboy,

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
Beauty and the beast...sorry I could not resist lol

How could you?

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
As I type this A6-EDT is over the Bay of Bengal on her way to SIN.

Thanks for the info.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
Soon to become a watering hole later in the flight.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
I've heard it can get very noisy there, just like a real bar I guess.

True! That is the charm of the Onboard Lounge.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
Being seated where you were would help considering how quiet the A380 is.

Yup! Along with the noise cancelling headset.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
Ah as I was saying.

You and I just think alike.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
Very nice.

You could just skip the lunch in favor of the canapés.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
I wonder if it tastes like Kabsa which I had in EY J Class, seems like a close version to it.

It tastes like Kabsa indeed. I had Kabsa in QR J Class once.

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
I know you also like Biryani too.

What do you think of my homemade Biryani?

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
Did that change into a white colour with the flash from it's original Golden lol.

We just underestimated the power of our flash!

Quoting flightsimboy (Reply 12):
PS: Nice to see more of the family  .

Hello from the family.

lychemsa,

Did you like Dubai?

I like Dubai. After our visit in 2012, I would love to come back another time.

**********************************************************

Hi ElanusNotatus,

Quoting ElanusNotatus (Reply 14):
It's a shame that Emirates does not have its own lounge in AMS

Emirates was supposed to be granted its own lounge at the end of the G-gates, but KLM has successfully lobbied against it.

Quoting ElanusNotatus (Reply 14):
but I guess that not being able to dine on the ground is more than made up for in the air.

Spot on!

Quoting ElanusNotatus (Reply 14):
The meals look appetizing and generous portions.

A dining experience that really takes us places!

Quoting ElanusNotatus (Reply 14):
It has been a while since I have flown with EK. Reading your report almost makes me want to go online and book a flight.

I hope you will get a chance to fly with EK again soon.

**********************************************************

Matthew,

Quoting 767747 (Reply 15):
and I really like the wood paneling that Emirates does with everything. It looks very classy!

Such a warm atmosphere, don’t you think?

**********************************************************

Peter,

Am already looking forward to my next EK A380 adventure in C flying MUC-DXB-BNE with a stopover in Dubai.
Quoting bps3458 (Reply 17):
All happening end of April next year for my yearly trip 'in die alte Heimat"

Bonzer! Will it be your first adventure with A380? If so, I am sure you will love it. In the meantime, have a great anticipatory pleasure!

Quoting bps3458 (Reply 17):
Going to Germany, I'll be on their 777 all the way in C flying BNE (via Singapore) - DXB - HAM.

Cool routing.

Quoting bps3458 (Reply 17):
Cheers from Brisbane,

Greetings from Wageningen of The Netherlands.

Hoi Nils,

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
and I’m happy to see you were the * on board - nothing else expected.

Thank you!

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
The amount of food looks overwhelming  Wow!

No one could disembark hungry this way.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
The Etihad way you mean? Next time hopefully

Sure!

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Clearly not if you want to sit closely togther in perfect harmony.
Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
No window seat though for you

That is a pity, but I would rather give up window seat to get seated together with my beloved travel companion.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
But it seems that didn’t bother you much!

Thanks to the aircraft-mounted cameras.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Oh my, and enter the plane all tipsy

With a chance of denied boarding. Yikes!

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Nah - you wouldn’t be able to enjoy it all!

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Perfect and so kind of Herman to offer you his tray.

It was our shared tray.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Oh, how I hate that! I want my apron view

Exactly my point!

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Cool! And stocked with drinks too.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Do they refill during the flight as well?

Yes.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Of course! (As if I have any knowledge about champagne lol!)

I do not know better either than you.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Very good but you certainly don’t have to pay for it elsewise when seated in business class?

Free onboard Wi-Fi to 10 MBs has been offered for free to all passengers since October this year.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
You are 1 crazy dude Suryo

It was Joumana’s idea. How could I possibly refuse?

Quoting sultanils (Reply 18):
Love that song!

**********************************************************

Hi PH,

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
Good to see you here again.
Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
I hope to see you here again more often.

Thank you.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
but the meals don't look as excellent as usual.

We have to admit that the best meal we had was on our SWISS flight to Nairobi.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
Premium? Really?

I see. There is no Schweppes Ginger Ale.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
Good choice, would also choose the rear section.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
I still don't see what's the purpose of such a bar when you cannot cool the drinks.

Well, I do appreciate the more choice on hand apart from a bottle of still water.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
That looks great!

It tasted great as well.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 19):
I remember those. But I'm wondering what brand EK chose - LH has Bose QC15 headphones in First (among th world's best) and Sennheiser headphones in Business.

Seat Plus Bed: FRA-MCO, Lufthansa 744 First Class (by PlaneHunter Sep 1 2014 in Trip Reports)
D.C. Tour, UA First & LH 747-8 Upper Deck Business (by PlaneHunter Oct 26 2014 in Trip Reports)

I won’t be surprised if EK has Sennheiser headphones as well in Business. But wow, I admire you on your knowledge about LH headphones!

**********************************************************

Gabriel,

Quoting gabrielchew (Reply 20):
I flew my first few EK flights a few weeks ago.

I still couldn’t believe that they were your first EK flights.

Quoting gabrielchew (Reply 20):
Do they really offer a choice of lounge access or a voucher? Interesting,

Yup! I wonder how many passengers would actually take up the voucher.

Quoting gabrielchew (Reply 20):
and a nice choice to be given

Definitely as there is no EK lounge yet in AMS.

**********************************************************

Gary,

Quoting garyvds (Reply 21):
You just can't say no to an Emirates flight can you!? haha

How could I possibly say no?

**********************************************************

Christian!

Quoting MIAspotter (Reply 23):
or perhaps he went on an EY reconnaissance mission?.

Good idea! But then, we will tag along.

Quoting MIAspotter (Reply 23):
Flying the A380 sure is an experience,

The future way of air travel!

Quoting MIAspotter (Reply 23):
and much more on EK and in Business Class,

That is what they call the business of living.

Quoting MIAspotter (Reply 23):
(sporting the EK shirt may have helped too)

Most probably!

**********************************************************

Ojas,

Quoting ojas (Reply 24):
glad to know you enjoyed your flight.

I was glad to be on board of EK again.

Quoting ojas (Reply 24):
It's an amazing view

Absolutely!

Quoting ojas (Reply 24):
Thats a very nice selfie to share!

Thank you!

Quoting ojas (Reply 24):
Indeed, thanks for sharing.

My great pleasure!

Hi CaptainRed,

Thank you!

I truly feel honored! Thank you so much!

Quoting eastafspot (Reply 26):
Nice, actually dining before a long flight is always a difficult choice to make especially before flying business with EK...

So true! I love inflight meal.

Hi Suryo,

Your first A380 experience looked excellent, and the crew all seemed really cheery, easy-going and positive. That is so important when it is quite as multicultural as EK.

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):

Yeah, I think EK have rather been trumped by QR on this regard. The EK bar looks like a little pop-up bar on a street, whilst QR's is quite sleek. Still... it is all in the quality of drinks served and...

Quoting akhmad (Thread starter):
Herman’s Mojito

looked rather delicious. I asked QR to make me up one, but they failed.

I thought some of the food looked a little scrappy, but otherwise, happy days in the sky! That 6 hours must have flown by...

I get to visit the mother-land in January. Woop. GA.

Merry Christmas to you and Hermann,

Hi Suryo,

Ive always enjoyed your thorough reports

They give a great insight into the airlines! I have never really been a fan of EK, but this report really makes me want to give them a try next time.

Only problem is, they use their 772 / 773 to CPH, which does not look as crisp as their 380.
If I could catch a segment from DXB to let's say BKK on the 380, I might consider.

It seems they have pretty generous fares in J.

When will we be seing your DXB - CGK segment? Have always loved that airport, it looks so different.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway!

I fly out of PER on the inaugural scheduled A380 flight on 01 May and leave HAM on 09 May.

Looks like you had a super fun experience! I must admit though, that the fake wood and gold onboard Emirates still looks rather corny.

Tell me, how generous were the selection of drinks in the onboard lounge? Do they mainly serve champagne, wine and beer or are they capable of handling drinks as well?

IMO, for as much as I hear about EK, not that impressive of a Business Class. Comparable to AA's 77W business class if you ask me.

Great report. Wish I could put as much time and passion you put in your TRs, into mine!

Well, they didn't know the recipe, and to be honest neither did I... but they offered to give it a try at least. Not fully trained 'mixologists'.

Yes, they were great... bu the GA lounge at CGK is a crime against humanity. Just dreadful... and strange that it is landside. Still, was nice to be in Indonesia for a time again.

RE: My First A380! Awesome Business Class To Dubai!

Suryo,

Thanks for the dedication and the equally amazing report that followed.

Its always a pleasure to see your enthusiasm for Emirates and in particular the A380. You look at every detail of the trip and try to put a positive spin on it all. Seeing Emirates through your eyes was a refreshing change from the way I have come to see the airline lately.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) Emirates is my most traveled airline as of late due to the way corporate contracts are worked out at my current job and this makes it quite boring to fly now. When you are a frequent flyer with any airline you tend to experience both the good and the bad and it makes you a bit jaded when it comes to traveling. Now a days I board an Emirates aircraft with a smile, no expectations and hope for an uneventful flight. On a few occasions I am genuinely surprised at how well Emirates can perform, but sadly this is the rare exception rather than the norm.

You seem to have got the best that Emirates offers on this particular flight:
1. Best business class seat in the fleet (much better than the 777 and lets not even mention the 332/343/!)
2. Excellent catering (which from my end has become repetitive to a the point I don't even look at the menu anymore when ordering and get exactly what I expected.)
3. Free wi fi (Only on the A380 at the moment.)
4. ICE which has always been the best, no doubt about that!
5. Crew that were at the top of their game and looked after you like a king. A great crew can really change your flight for the better on Emirates and you definitely had them.
6. The A380 bar!

I swear, I am longing for a flight on KLM the way you long for a flight Emirates flight. I guess we both live in the wrong cities for that...

I really enjoyed the trip report, the idea of sky lights really impress me. I don't like the Amsterdam terminal though, it looks like a warehouse.

EN,

Quoting ElanusNotatus (Reply 35):
Yes, to HAM because I have been wanting to fly with Tante Ju. Now I get the chance. I have also booked a day return flight to FDH to visit the Zeppelin and Dornier museums.

That sounds terrific! I have never done any of that. Would you write a report about your journey?

Philip

Quoting Fallap (Reply 36):
Looks like you had a super fun experience!

Thanks to Theodora, Sigolene, Joumana, Roza and Marinel.

Quoting Fallap (Reply 36):
I must admit though, that the fake wood and gold onboard Emirates still looks rather corny.

Fair enough.

Quoting Fallap (Reply 36):
Tell me, how generous were the selection of drinks in the onboard lounge? Do they mainly serve champagne, wine and beer or are they capable of handling drinks as well?

Let me see. They serve premium spirits, exclusive wines, champagne, refreshing cocktails and beer alongside hot and cold beverages.

**********************************************************

Max,

Quoting Max752 (Reply 37):
IMO, for as much as I hear about EK, not that impressive of a Business Class. Comparable to AA's 77W business class if you ask me.

Fair enough.

**********************************************************

Luke,

Quoting lukeyboy95 (Reply 38):
Well, they didn't know the recipe, and to be honest neither did I... but they offered to give it a try at least. Not fully trained 'mixologists'.

Shouldn’t they have any cocktail booklet onboard? Even a fully trained ‘mixologist’ may need some reference.

Quoting lukeyboy95 (Reply 38):
Yes, they were great...

Quoting lukeyboy95 (Reply 38):
bu the GA lounge at CGK is a crime against humanity. Just dreadful... and strange that it is landside.

Yikes! I hope this will be history once Terminal 3 Ultimate is finished.

Quoting lukeyboy95 (Reply 38):
Still, was nice to be in Indonesia for a time again.

That is good to hear!

Do you mean because of the ongoing renovation? Maybe you can give it another try next summer once the renovation project is finished.

RE: My First A380! Awesome Business Class To Dubai!

The thing about all of the alcohol offerings.... When I flew a lot in my 20's and 30's, I rarely ever drank while flying. But, the one time I did, I became paranoid, about the safety of the aircraft. Never having felt that way, in all of the many other flights I had taken in my life, I never drank before or during a flight, ever again.

Hi there Suryo, another interesting read. This one particularly appealed to me as I'm booked on the same flight from AMS-DXB in September. So good to see what to expect! The crew seemed great and the hard product looked strong too.

That is indeed the wise thing to do.

Lie-flat comfort, regionally inspired dishes, award winning inflight entertainment and conversation in A380 Onboard Lounge along with attentive crew members like Theodora, Sigolene, Joumana, Roza and Marinel. What else could you ask for?

شُكْراً! Thank you all for stopping by and have a great Easter weekend!
