My First Flight With Royal Jordanian In J Class

Mon Jan 19, 2015 5:19 am

Hello folks

Last week, I decided to try Royal Jordanian for the first time, especially when they had the B787 served between Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. The price was reasonable for this 2 hour flight. Here are my flight details:

Flight: RJ 181
Date: Wednesday, 14 January, 2015
Aircraft: B787-800
Seat: 3A

Check-in

Just like many airlines, I had my dedicated business class check-in counter where I checked in my bag and got my boarding pass and lounge invitation to MAS golden lounge in as fast as 5 minutes if not even faster. If I remember correctly, there were 3 check-in counters for the airline (2 for economy class and 1 for business.)

Boarding:

Boarding was delayed by approximately 15 minutes and when I boarded there was no priority boarding on this flight. In addition, I was not greeted by a steward when I boarded the plane (there was no one to greet me, and since I knew where my seat was I just went to the front of the plane and sat there.) They had a very nice boarding music playing while passengers were still boarding. As you can see, the business class cabin was empty.

You can see the economy class chairs in the picture.

Seat comfort:

My seat was soft and very comfortable for this short trip. I liked the design of the seat (grey leather seats followed by a red color seat belt.) I did feel like this was a crown class (Royal Jordanian call their business class product “crown class,” and based on my experience the name lives up to its title.)

This is a picture of the left engine from my seat.

Lavatory:

The lavatories were kept clean throughout the flight. More importantly, since this was a new plane it did feel like a new lavatory rather than a maintained/kept clean lavatory. I was very impressed.

Dining:

They only had one menu through-out the flight. It was a sandwich with tomatoes, vegetables, and fish (sorry I forgot to take a picture of the menu.) I’m unable to provide my feedback regarding the sandwich since I’m not a vegetarian neither do I eat fish, however, their sweet was extremely delicious.

This is the dining table in business class:

This is the only meal offered throughout this flight:

In-flight entertainment:

I would not say that this is the best in-flight entertainment since it does not compete with Emirates and Qatar Airways, however, it was good enough for my short-haul flight. They did have new movies like The Maze Runner and The November Man. The in-flight map was also good.

I apologize for the bad quality. It says “Select language, English – Arabic.”

Arrival:

We touched down at Bangkok with a slight delay due to delayed departure. I arrived feeling relaxed and refreshed. I had a very enjoyable flight from the cabin crew, and the comfort of cabin itself.

Conclusion:

I had a very comfortable and nice experience with Royal Jordanian, and although their prices were much higher than Malaysian Airlines I would definitely consider flying Royal Jordanian in the future. I had nothing but nice and friendly experience from the cabin crew. I arrived relaxed from my B787 experience (this is really a ride that every aviation fan must experience.) I had more pictures to share with you guys, but unfortunately I have no idea why the picture quality was bad in some pictures, and good in other pictures, despite taking pictures from the same camera. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I really like RJ's color scheme, and their use of the red/beige colors inside the cabins ... looks very inviting!

Great to get on a 787.

Thanks for sharing!

Great Trip report aceboy44..

I like reading reports on 5th freedom flights.

Aaww, that's a shame. But glad you enjoyed the rest of the flight.
Out of curiosity, what was the load like on this sector?

And i notice you are from Kuwait?

I'm pleased that you found my report useful

The economy class was not empty (but I also didn't notice it to be full upon check-in/boarding.) If I remember correctly there were 4 - 5 passengers in business class.

I also wanted to mention that I rarely noticed Arabic-speaking FA on-board the flight (I believe the FA were Asians on that flight.) The purser, however, was definitely Arab.

Yes! I am from Kuwait.

Ahalan aceboy,

Thank you for the report, I was looking to see how the new RJ B787 looks like. I hope to catch an RJ flight sometime soon, but from some reason thier prices has gone high in past few years.

Thx for shearing, Jonathan

Indeed! Their prices were double the price of MAS. There were 2 reasons for booking this flight and paying double the price:

1) I have never flew on a B787 before, so paying double the price for a once in a life time experience will not hurt.
2) I never flew on any of RJ flights before so again, a new experience with a new airline for me.

Finally, you can say a third reason for taking RJ was to publish this trip report

Here are four additional pictures from my flight.

This is a picture of where to charge your electronic devices and where to put on your head-phone pins (located at back of your seat, and the location is very inconvenient: )

And this is how the ceiling of the aircraft looks like:

This is how the blanket on-board looks like:

Finally, a random picture which I took during the flight. Maybe it will give you a good idea about the space of the seats:

Lovely report. RJ have been improving lately, their overall product is getting better and better, however their prices are steep most of the time (well at least from Amman)   .
Loving the new 787 and I think that the RJ livery on the 787 makes the best 787 livery out there.
