Malaysia Business To Dubai World Central

Wed Jan 21, 2015 11:13 am

Hello guys, and welcome to another report of mine!

This episode is going to be about (a part) of my summer trip 2014, Malaysia Airlines from Bangkok to Dubai (DWC) via of Kuala Lumpur.

But first of all some background information:
I did my A-level in mai/june 2014, and I liked to do some kind of special trip after my 12 years of school. I first thought about a normal return to Asia or US in Business class on TK/LH or whatever. But that didn’t quite appeal to me because it was not unique or special or however you may call it.
I thought about some special or smaller carriers which not seem to be quite known to me, and I thought about Gulfair, I already flew on them to DXB via Bahrain last year and was quite impressed, because they offer quite a decent product combined with reasonable fares. Well, I booked GF from FRA to DXB return with a stop of several hours in BAH o both ways. I also could take use of their lounges thanks to an earlier status match campaign of them.
Well, what I wanted to as well for a long time is Asia. There are many possibilities to get from DXB to Asia, as it is the cheapest destination, I opted for BKK.
Again Gulf Air was the chosen one on this sector. As I wanted to fly business class at least on one of two ways, I searched for ‘’cheap’’ one way fares, and GF was one of the cheapest. Another or better the convincing fact was that GF operates the A330-200 on the BKK route, also, they still have full First class seat on these birds, and as a status holder I was rather optimistic to get one out of 8 seats.
Now, there was just on sector missing, the return flight from BKK to DXB. Again, I had quite a bunch to choose from. The Indian carriers and Srilankan as well as Malaysia airlines appeared. I opted for the latter, as the price was good, and I only have seen good things about them, I think I have to add that I booked BEFORE these tragic events or better one plane which disappeared and one which was shot down by those assholes, or ‘’pro-russian-seperatists’’ how the call themselves. All in all tragic disaster which cannot be described in words.
All in all, I got quite a good price as well as an overnight stop in KUL, also Malaysia would be a new country for me.
But now to the flight. This report will be about the MH flights from BKK to DWC via KUL.
Before the trip would start, I had 4 days in BKK. I stayed at 3 different hotels, because the hotel offer in BKK is just great, good hotels for even better prices. The highlight was the newly opened Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, which is located in the Sukhumvit area. Great hotel, everything was fine there.
F L I G H T B K K – K U L
With a departure time of 2PM, I could relax in the morning, I had quite a good breakfast before I checked out and took the taxi to Suvarnabhumi airport. BTW, the taxi fares down in Thailand are really cheap, I forgot about the exact price, but it was very cheap, even more when I compare it to German taxi fares.
In the end I of course arrived too early as the check in for MH opens around 3 hours prior to departure. I had a look around the massive hall of BKK, and found some interesting things. As it was the day of the soccer world cup final (Germany vs. Argentina) the some of the LH representatives had German soccer dresses.

LH desks

After having a look around the entire terminal, I went back to see if the MH desks finally opened. They didn’t, so I just sat down near the desks to wait them to open. Around 2h30 prior to departure, they finally opened, and I made luckily could use the Business/Status line, as the Economy line already was very long even though it still was very early.

My lane today
I got checked in by a Thai guy, who obviously wasn’t in mood of working, he looked quite bored. At least he gave me everything I needed. Boarding pass to KUL, lounge invitation, fast track pass and an airport map which showed the locations of the lounges, all in all quite a bunch.
After that, I made my way for security and passport control, both security and immigration agents were very friendly. Also everything went quite fast. At security I was in front of a very snobbish German who was HON circle member of Miles and more according to his boarding pass. However, I took my time to put all my stuff including notebook, liquids etc. on the belt, anyway, I was too ‘’slow’’ for Mr. HON cirlcle and he said (in German) something (not friendly) about my slowness, as he thought I would not understand him. I just said thank you and wished him a nice day, in German
After that I was airside and found myself in a massive crowd of people, there were people everywhere, just like at Frankfurt in T1A.

Next, I was supposed to search the lounge. It was not that simple to find it, as there are countless lounges on every floor. Even S7 operates a lounge here. But after 10 mins or so I found the Royal Silk lounge (or Royal Orchid, I don’t know aymore) of TG which used to be the lounge of MH here in BKK, now they use the Louis Tavern noname lounge.

I was welcomed by an ultra friendly thai woman. She told me to leave on time as there aren’t any announcements, and she even explained me where I find the buffet, the toilets, showers etc. very nice!
The lounge itself was OK, but nothing to write home about. The drink selection was good, but the food options could have been better. I just did eat some noodles and had a good G&T and some Ginger Ale.

Views out of the lounge
The views on apron are good actually, but there those dots on the windows which is a bit annoying.
Another advantage is that TG has tons of lounges here in BKK, so it wasn’t too crowded and I had a whole corner of the lounge to myself, which was very nice.

I spent some 1,5 hours here, and made my way to the gate than as I saw my bird arriving just from KUL. I was quite happy about the registration of this 737 (9M-MSH) as this was a new 737 including sky interior and new seats both in Business and Economy class.

My bird

The gate system here in BKK is quite a mess in my opinion as the do not give boarding times, but just the time when the gate opens.
FLIGHT MH 789
BKK-KUL
737-800nextgen 9M-MSH
SEAT 4F
So, boarding finally begun and they called Business as well as status pax to board first. I made my way down to the jet bridge and was onboard as the first one. I was welcomed again very friendly by 2 female FAs at the front door, they had a look at my BP and addressed me by name and wished me a pleasant flight.

First impression of the cabin was very good, the seats were wide and very comfy. Once I was settled in, an FA came immediately and offered me some welcome drink, as well as the meal card for this flight to KUL.
I could choose between an Asian as well as a western option. I opted for the western one, because I didn’t know what the Asian was about.
Also I was asked if liked something to drink directly after take off, I opted for a Gin tonic today. All in all, the cabin crew was very friendly and served everything with a smile, very good here.
After boarding was completed, the safety dome was shown on the PTVs which the new 737s of MH are equipped with. BTW, sky interior is very nice feature s the cabin looks very fresh and new compared to older 737s like those of Lufthansa which are in service since the 1980s, but I like those retro birds as well, just to add.

Sky!
During taxiing, I saw some interesting birds like SU 767, some A380s of TG. I also saw an A332 of Gulf Air, on which I flew into BKK 4 days earlier. It also is very obvious that TG is the boss here in BKK, everything was full of their aircraft.

Nice!

EL AL goes for their longer-than-nessecarry service for TLV

Nice lineup of heavies

Take off was very fast and powerful, as the flight to KUL would be just a bit over 2 hours, which has been reported by the FO a bit earlier. His English was not very fluent at all, many of the things he said has not been understandable.

After take off, my desired gin tonic arrived and I ordered a diet coke with it which was promptly delivered. After another few minutes, they already begun with the meal service as the flight would not be very long but they are to perform a full meal service nevertheless.

There has been 2 choices, an Asian and an European one. I of course opted for the latter as Asian food is a way too spicy for my taste. My meal was handed out, well here it is, looks quite good for a meal of a 2 hours flight, doesn’t it?

But I have to mention that I was not overly content with the main course as even though it was the western choice, it was very spicy, so that I had to order extra water. But well, all in all it was quite a good meal, of which I was satisfied.
After I finished eating, I asked for some Baileys which I promptly got. The flight attendants were really attentive, every time they saw an empty glass, they asked if they should do a refill, very good service.

After meal, I had a look for the IFE system, luckily, the new 737s are equipped with the latest version of IFE. They had many movies as well as a for my taste very good selection of music. But as always on such a short flight, I just enjoyed the moving map, my favourite feature of IFE systems, and reclined my seat a bit in order to take a nap.

My favourite feature

The seat itself was very good also, more than enough legroom and so on. Actually I prefer fabric seats over leather ones, but for a short/midhaul flight it was acceptable.
Soon, it was already time to descend into KUL which has been announced by the FO. At that point I didn’t really know that KLIA is that far away of the city, but we passed downtown, and flew another 10 mins until we reached the airport.

Touch down was smooth and in no time we reached the gate. During taxiing I saw some interesting birds like this classic 747 which seems to restored now.

Always a pleasure to see LH planes

Leaving the aircraft was a pleasure too as the FAs made sure that Economy passengers had to wait until the last Business passenger (myself) was away.
Next step was immigration. I got a fast lane pass of one of the FAs during the flight, but I decided not to use it as the queue of the fast lane was longer than the normal one. However they worked very efficient (not like China where you have to wait hours) and I passed after maybe 5 minutes. I reached the baggage reclaim belt and the suitcases already were circling. All in all, it took not more than 15 minutes from the aircraft to the exit.
Now I had a look how to get to the city where I booked a hotel. I actually wanted to go by KLIA train but as I found out, taxi in Malaysia is cheap like dirt, I forgot about the exact price but it was around 12 euros, which is nothing for a one hour taxi ride of around 80 km. Obviously, the airport route is nevertheless attractive for the taxi drivers as the I had asked me when I would leave KUL again. I told him tomorrow and he offered to pick me up again at the hotel the time I liked, that’s what I call service!
However, after an hour or so I arrived my hotel. I had a quick look around the city and than I had to sleep.
Next morning, as ordered the friendly taxi driver waited in front of the hotel in order to pick me up. After another hour or so I arrived again at KLIA.
Inside the terminal, I had a look for the premium check in area of MH. I found it and thought that it wouldn’t be the first time being there as I have seen tons of pictures of it here on anet. I made my way in to find another very bored looking woman at one of the business counters, she didn’t say anything but I got my boarding card as well as another fast land voucher for passport control.

This time I really needed this voucher as the lanes were very long and at the premium lane, there was nobody, again I passed within a minute. Than I found myself at the departure terminal. I quickly had a look around and than went for the train to reach the satellite where my flight to DWC would depart from. From the train, I saw a 747SP of Iranair, which a very nice sight, but sadly I missed taking a picture of it. After arriving the satellite, I went to the upper floor for the lounge. Again, I was let in by another bored ground staff member who didn’t say anything, not even hello. In the lounge, I was rather surprised as it was totally empty, there were maybe 20-30 customers around, which is nothing at all for this lounge which is quite huge. Luckily they had a TV where they showed the revision of the final of the soccer world cup, which I couldn’t watch as it was 4AM KUL time. As I had plenty of time, I had a look on it for an hour or so.
After that I had a look for the restaurant corner of the lounge which was also nice, I had a good portion of everything mixed they had. Actually, the food was good, but the bread was absolutely terrible. After that I also had a drink in the bar section of the lounge which just is near the entrance, well the location is not really nice, because everybody who enters or left the lounge pass there. However, they had a good selection of drinks and the staff was friendly.

After that, it was still another half an hour until boarding and I made my way for the gate which was not too far away. Also, there was another security check. The gate area already was crowded and it looked like a good load today. I sat down and just waited the time until boarding would commence.

FLIGHT MH 154
KUL-DWC
A330-300 9M-MTJ
SEAT 6A
There was a call for priority boarding, but it didn’t work, all the people stand up for the queue just when the staff began the boarding call.
I went down the jetway and was welcomed very friendly by name. Another FA escorted me to the seat and asked about a welcome drink, as I wasn’t in mood of sparkling wine or juices, I went for a coke which was promptly delivered. Everything with a smile here, no complaints. They also handed out the meal cards for the flight to DWC.

Concerning the load, it seems that Economy was full that day but business wasn’t at all, just 7 passengers and 2 dead head pilots (I have no idea why they have been on that flight).

Good legroom

Our mate
As a consequence of that, the service was even more personal, and they came around very often and asked if I wished anything, they also remembered which drink you had before and asked than if you wished another one. Really nice service, even better than on my GF flight to BKK in F.
Even in the mid of the flight when most of the passengers were sleeping, they came around every 20 minutes or so in order to have a look if everything was still ok.
After collecting the the glasses and after having closed the doors, the usual safety dome was shown.
After that, the captain came on the speaker and gave some information about the route which would be over India and Oman, he also mentioned that the flight time will be 6 hours and 50 minutes, a perfect flight duration in my opinion, not too long but also long enough to enjoy the good service.

Taxiing to the runway took a while, but than we went into the sky. Take off was not very powerful as the load was very light and the route would not be too long.

After the seatbelt signs had been tuned off, the crew directly went into service. I opted for a G&T first off all, which served one minute later (‘’Enjoy your G&T Mr. Emek96’’). Great every crew member serving business class knew the names of all the passengers!

Having a look into the airshow

Amenity kit, very good for Business class

Than they came around in order to serve the first course, the signature Satay. As they had too much of it, they came around twice and I could test beef and chicken Satay. I have to say that I prefer the chicken one as the beef was too dry for my taste, it seems to be a regular problem that beef is always too dry when served inflight.

After that, the 2nd course was served. I had salad with tuna. Strangely, they always serve fruit salad together with the 2nd course (I have seen this in many reports). Is there a special reason that do that? However, also this tasted very good, just as the Satay did. They came around with drinks several times during meal service. They even brought me a new G&T when my current one was still half full, also, I didn’t see a trolley a single time in business class on this flight.

More G&T
After that, there was a break in order to serve (another) round of drinks. After that they came around with the main course. I had the beef option with mashed potatoes and vegetables. This time it was not dry at all as they served sauce with it. All in all a great dish, and was even too much, I think it was the first time that I didn’t finish a meal inflight. The crew even came around to ask if the meal tasted fine, when she heard that I liked it she seemed to be quite happy.

EK serves exactly this dish in First class btw
After the main course I had some Baileys together with the dessert which also tasted fine. It was very small but I didn’t mind as I wasn’t hungry anymore anyway.

RE: Malaysia Business To Dubai World Central

Wed Jan 21, 2015 11:21 am

After a final drink run was done and I had to relax a bit after such a large meal. I had a look at the IFE, which is exactly the same as on the (new) 737-800s. They had many movies, but I rather listened to some music as I was quite tired already. In general, I don’t like westbound dayflights. This one will land in Dubai 6PM local time with a local time of 10AM in Asia, which means I would go to bed 3AM or so Asian time. Even though being very tired I could not sleep even though the lie flat mode of the seat was very comfortable, but the seat was a bit hard to sleep on for my taste. So after half an hour or so in bed mode I turned again in an upright position, as I just couldn’t sleep. I just went for the lounge position and listened to some music, as the music selection was quite good. Everybody else slept, so the crew came around ‘only’ every 20 mins in order to look if I liked another drink, well after some 4 hours I couldn’t drink alcohol anymore, so I just went with several coffees which didn’t taste too good for my taste.

No visibility

I also had a look into the amenity kit, and I have to say it was quite good. Compared to LH, it contained of everything I needed.
The rest of the flight passed uneventful, sadly there was no visibility over India as it was very cloudy that day. Too bad, I would have liked at to see India form the sky.

A bit more than an hour prior to landing in Dubai, the crew went into service again in order to serve a “light” snack. I got a nice tray with some sandwich and fruit salad, this time I had just water and orange juice with it. All in all it was a good meal, even though I wasn’t hungry at all, I did eat it.

After that, I had a final coffee, and the captain announced our descent into Dubai World central airport. To be honest I a bit missed the usual approach into Dubai (DXB), as approaching into DWC is quite boring, we just overflew sandbanks.

Touch down was very smooth, and I immediately realized that this airport is in the middle of nothing. “World central” really sounds like a joke when regarding what this place consists of.

There was absolutely nothing except a few Fly Dubai 737s and a TNT 777F. Of course we had to deplane via stairs as this airport does not operates gangways (yet).
I said goodbye to the crew and left the aircraft into the summer of Dubai with some 45C. Luckily they at least have business class buses here in DWC. Interestingly, they didn’t even opened the Economy class door before all the J pax were away. Nice service.

Immigration was no problem as always when entering the UAE. After one minute I was at baggage reclaim hall, and I was really lucky about my business class bus as all the Eco pax as well as the pax of 2 fully loaded Fly Dubai 737s had to pass immigration now, and they had 2 counters opened. Bags arrived in no time and I found myself in front of terminal 2 mins later. I have to say that this airport, even though it looks like a parking garage, it is very efficient as it didn’t take even 10 from deboarding to the exit.

After this I took a taxi to my hotel (Radisson Blu Dubai Downtown). It took about 50 mins via the highway to get there, as I learned later, the DWC airport is in the middle between Abu Dhabi and Dubai Downtown. Not very premium. But luckily, most of the flights to Dubai are still operated to DXB, which, I hope, will last for a long time.
After having arrived at the hotel, I went to the nearby Dubai mall in order to have a final meal of the day.

CONCLUSION
Well, I cannot say anything negative about MH, as they provided great service both on short as well as long haul flights. Flight attendants were always friendly, food was good, and the aircrafts were equipped with the latest product, both on 737 (skyinterior) and the A333. So if you should think about flying MH on long haul up front, just do so, as there speaks nothing against in my opinion, it may be different for Economy class, as I did hear some times now, but business class is a great way to travel.

And if you look at the prices (well, now they are much cheaper compared to when I booked), great service for a good price.

Thank you very much for reading,
comments, question as well as corrections are always welcome

Nice report Elias! Seems like you had a good time with MH in the air. Shame the ground staff were so sad

But after 10 mins or so I found the Royal Silk lounge (or Royal Orchid, I don’t know aymore) of TG which used to be the lounge of MH here in BKK, now they use the Louis Tavern noname lounge.

I flew MH J out of BKK in November. The lounge floor is horrible. For a new airport, it's not terribly well designed. They should've gone for 2 or more smaller terminals. You know with a J boarding pass on MH, you can use the QF,CX and JL lounges?

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):

I'm surprised that they don't have them. I thought DWC was supposed to be a top quality airport?

Indeed I had a good time with them. Well, still better than bad onboard staff I thought

Absolutely, one can become very confused when departing there, even as a 'experienced' (I am not that experienced actually) traveller, it is hard to find the right way there.
Concerning the lounges, I cant say anything as I didn't try it. The TG lounge was just fine. I would say no as I was given a proper lounge invitation for a TG lounge, so it is unlikely that one could enter the other OW lounges as well.

This airport is not premium, not at all. It reminds me of a parking garage. But I have to add that I thought the same as you before I arrived.

Sadly, I didn't take many pics as it was nightflight, so no report. But the flight was great, especially in lie flat mode, the seat was great!

Hi emek96,

Great report, there aren't enough TRs covering DWC!

BKK looks so...interesting from the outside, I'd love to visit someday.

MH looks great. I flew them last summer PVG - KUL - BLR, and the legroom in Y on the 772 was probably the best I've experienced! Not to mention the configuration was 2x5x2, which was great for us at the window at least...

DWC looks so bleak! Especially that pic you took of the desert haze and empty freeway... Doesn't EK and everyone else plan to move over there eventually?

Thanks for sharing,

Indeed, they provide great service. 2/5/2 configuration must be great, so bad that MH lost 2 of their 777s.

Indeed, that airport is not that good (yet). Yes, I think EK wants to move there one day, but I think it will take some more years as now the airport is mainly used for Cargo flights

Hey Elias,

Good one! Certainly a good idea to choose MH over any other carrier - they deserve the credit! They don’t seem to have the most fancy product in the sky but it is still pretty decent nonethless. Also nice to hear the FA’s did go the extra mile to make sure you were OK    I do wonder if they now fly to DWC on a scheduled basis or also to DXB?

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
I just said thank you and wished him a nice day, in German

Excellent way to deal with that kind of people.

Seems more like an SV B747 , probably used for Hadj flight, just like the FlyNAS plane I saw in one of your photos.

it seems to be a regular problem that beef is always too dry when served inflight.

I alos rarely take beef or steak as it is very difficult to get the cooking right, certainly on an aircraft.

Yeah I think, it is important to support them now. The product indeed is not the most special out there, but for the 2 dayflights and with a light load, I didn't need anything more. Maybe its different for crowded nightflights.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 9):
Also nice to hear the FA’s did go the extra mile to make sure you were OK

Indeed, FAs have been really great!

Quoting sultanils (Reply 9):
I do wonder if they now fly to DWC on a scheduled basis or also to DXB?

They only flew there in summer 2014, as DXB did renovate one of their runways I think, so the number of slots was reduced in during this period.

Quoting sultanils (Reply 9):

Seems more like an SV B747 , probably used for Hadj flight, just like the FlyNAS plane I saw in one of your photos.

Ok, didn't know that! Also, I have never heard about Flynas before

Now you say so, indeed, as the runway renovation was featured on NGC's show 'Ultimate Airport Dubai'

Hi Elias,

Brilliant trip report on your MH flights, plenty of interesting pictures with a good mixture of text. MH really do seem to provide a good business class service, I've also heard good things about their economy service. I'd love to give them a try at some point in the future when I can finally afford to do so, so much to try, so little money! Ha!

Thank you for this report.

You really have to! The last few months/weeks they again and again had great offers, also for Business class, but no chance to catch as I am not planning to go Asia in the near future...

I flew MH J out of BKK in November. The lounge floor is horrible. For a new airport, it's not terribly well designed. They should've gone for 2 or more smaller terminals. You know with a J boarding pass on MH, you can use the QF,CX and JL lounges?

I disagree with this, I believe that one single terminal is always better then separate terminals and have to travel between them via buss train etc.
BKK is not to bad as the areas are split up in concourses which are clearly marked.
I agree that the lounges can be difficult to find but normally people will get a lounge map with the location etc.
FYI: TG started to revamp their lounges so they should be better when opened again.

Hi Elias,

great report with good pictures! MH's J Class product looks fine, wouldn't mind to try it. What I found most appealing was the food. Do you know what kind of champagne they have?

The A330 seat looks a bit narrow though - have just checked and according to Seatguru, it's 20 inches wide. Swiss' seats are 20.5 inches wide, btw.

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
I opted for the latter, as the price was good, and I only have seen good things about them, I think I have to add that I booked BEFORE these tragic events

I would still book MH.

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
However, I took my time to put all my stuff including notebook, liquids etc. on the belt, anyway, I was too ‘’slow’’ for Mr. HON cirlcle and he said (in German) something (not friendly) about my slowness, as he thought I would not understand him. I just said thank you and wished him a nice day, in German

I wouldn't have been as friendly as you...probably would have suggested to use a private jet or so.

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
BTW, sky interior is very nice feature s the cabin looks very fresh and new compared to older 737s like those of Lufthansa which are in service since the 1980s, but I like those retro birds as well, just to add.

But LH's 737 interiors look quite fresh, wouldn't you agree?

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
My meal was handed out, well here it is, looks quite good for a meal of a 2 hours flight, doesn’t it?

Also got a nice looking tray in A3 Business Class on a 1:40 hrs flight (MUC-SKG) recently - but I guess your meal tasted much better.

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
Leaving the aircraft was a pleasure too as the FAs made sure that Economy passengers had to wait until the last Business passenger (myself) was away.

That's the way it should be. On that mentioned A3 flight, the FAs also strictly prevented Y Class pax from entering Business Class after landing - and the reason was that the big bus waiting outside was reserved for Business Class passengers - or better said, only for me because there weren't any other pax up front. Very good A3 ground service.

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
I have to say that I prefer the chicken one as the beef was too dry for my taste, it seems to be a regular problem that beef is always too dry when served inflight.

I usually find chicken too dry inflight, have had many good beef dishes, though.

I found the seat quite ok, for a dayflight it was perfect. Maybe it is much different when sleeping on it. Might be that the seat actually is even tighter than the LX one. BTW I will fly on your beloved Swiss business class to Chicago in 2 months.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 15):

I would book them again, maybe my formulation was bad, didn't intend to say I wont fly them again.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 15):

I was in holyday mode, so I didn't see a reason to start a discussion with Mr. HON, I think he understood that

Of course I agree! Every LH plane looks fresh

A3 in general has good catering I think. On my flight to FRA last year I pre ordered a sea food meal, and I got a full hot breakfast, in Economy.

Many airlines handle it like this, I experienced that on GF, UA, and also after SWISS flight arriving in ZRH, J class pax had a private Mercedes bus with leader seats.
I am surprised that LH only offer this service to F passengers.

Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 15):

On next to all my flights, the opposite was the case....maybe it is different usually. On the ground I surly prefer beef over chicken.

LH could at least offer that in FRA and MUC where many planes get remote positions.

Interesting, so that service is probably limited to airports in the Gulf region.

Yes, I think so. In BAH, it was the same, every flight got a priority bus. However, thats a nice System I think, as taking one bus together with 150 others is not very premium after a night flight (had this after Arrival from BOS on LH)

Hi Elias,

nice report of your MH travels. I had quite a few flights on them in the past and always enjoyed. Though, the airlines Boeing 777's are said to be in a bad state (interior), and they seem to have a lot of customers complaints nowadays about broken IFE, seats etc.

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
Concerning the load, it seems that Economy was full that day but business wasn’t at all, just 7 passengers and 2 dead head pilots (I have no idea why they have been on that flight).

MH operates B747 Cargo from DWC. I am pretty sure that the crew was flown in to operate on one of these flights.

Nice report Elias. As usual, MH look pretty decent. And a consistent product too. Interesting to see you also flew -MSH. I logged this one back in April on a short hop between SIN-KUL. Do you know if MH only use DWC now or do they also use DXB? Seems a little odd to me if they serve only DWC - most other carriers use both (apart from the LCC's).

Hope to read more from you soon!

In summer 2014, DXB did renovate one of the runways, so some carriers had to fly into DWC as they hadn't enough slots in DXB with only one runway. Meanwhile they fly into DXB again. In summer, I saw a Philippines A330, I think they also fly to DXB usually.

Hey Elias.

I read this a while ago, and enjoyed the report very much. Not sure how serving DWC will pan out for MH, but it seems brave.

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
Next, I was supposed to search the lounge. It was not that simple to find it, as there are countless lounges on every floor. Even S7 operates a lounge here. But after 10 mins or so I found the Royal Silk lounge (or Royal Orchid, I don’t know aymore) of TG which used to be the lounge of MH here in BKK, now they use the Louis Tavern noname lounge.

Yeah, I found lounge locations very unclear at BKK, and there seems to be an Orchid through many parts of the airport. Had to ask twice to find my lounge, but found the offerings there in quite good. Shame no massage treatments in the lounge I visited...

Quoting emek96 (Thread starter):
After take off, my desired gin tonic arrived and I ordered a diet coke with it which was promptly delivered. After another few minutes, they already begun with the meal service as the flight would not be very long but they are to perform a full meal service nevertheless.

Good, excellent. Really happy to hear MH FA's still have a bit of sparkle in them. Lets hope the CEO isn't too brutal with cutbacks, though one fears that is what is needed.

Food looked fine, though without any wow-factor regarding the presentation, and I agree, the plastic cover looks poor. Those G&T's gave me a thirst. Cheers! |

Indeed, BKK is a very confusing airport.....but I liked it as you can walke around for long time when having a layover as the terminal is very huge. I think only First class pax have access to the massage, sadly

The GTs were indeed great! Concerning the food, I don't care about the presentation as long as the quality is fine. And it was really fine on the KUL-DWC leg. As I mentioned, the main course I got, serves EK in First class on the BKK HKG route.

Thank you for the trip report.

I flew HKT-KUL-HKG v.v just 2 weeks ago on MH Business class. I found them as good as SQ!
Love the next gen 738 BSI, I don't mind it on KUL-HKT but their infamous 777-200ERs are a but outdated but the cabin crew makes up for it. I found MH F/As non-robotic, the sincere cheerful type of person I would meet in KL rather than those in SG. Sorry SQ.

MH Biz price out of HKT is very competitive. I would fly them again anytime.

P.S as of FEB 2015, champagne served is Deutz Brut Classic, very decent, I rated it over LP, Moet, Piper and Ttg on other airlines' biz.

Let's just blame it on yields.
