London To Doha On Qatar Airways Business

Mon May 25, 2015 12:33 pm

I recently flew from London to Doha on Qatar Airways, travelling in Business Class on a 777-300ER.

As normal, I have produced a video trip report which you can watch here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrbkAD2WzT8

In general, I was very impressed with the QR service. Highlights included the quality of the Premium Lounge at LHR T4 - a facility which I think is better than the BA Concorde Room - and the food and drink offered on board.

Some photos from the trip:

Menu - remember this is a business class product featuring dine on demand:

Main course of braised lamb with puy lentils, this was one of the best dishes I have ever had on an aeroplane. Truly delicious:

Hi eg77er,

It looks as if QR offer a very competative Business Class product.

The lounge in LHR looks good but a question. You mention access is for ticketed First and Business Passengers only. What happens to passengers with tier status? Is there a different lounge that they have access to?

On the onboard product looks good and the presentation of meals is superb. You certainly weren't lacling for choice of either food or beverages. I like the fact that dine on demand extends to Business and not just First.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Passengers travelling in QR Y with status (either Privilege Club or another OW status) have to use the SkyTeam lounge I think. And, other OW status passengers can't use the lounge unless they are travelling on QR in F/J. It's a bit like the Concorde Room at T5 in that respect.

Hi there - good video as ever. Interesting to see that more and more BA frequent fliers are moving their business to QR since they joined OneWorld. I tried them out in J to SIN last year (I also flew on A7-BAX incidentally) and they were light years ahead of BA J - despite the more conventional layout on the A330/777. Only downside was that I flew out of BCN so only got to use a third party lounge. The dedicated QR lounge at LHR looks pretty good - again, miles ahead of what BA offer to their J pax.

Odd how they don't seem to stick to the OneWorld lounge access rules. I guess another option is the MH lounge, but I'm led to believe its only open 3 hours before the MH flights. Even so, it's not that brilliant and gets very crowded - or at least it did in 2013. Maybe not so much now.

So let me guess this straight.......you go to the lounge to eat a full meal and then jump on a plane and stuffy again with a full meal and booze. Keep these ME3 airlines out of the US. OIL money with no taxes buy alot......Disgusting

I'm not sure what the point that you're trying to make is here - plenty of airlines other than the ME3 allow you to eat lunch or dinner in their well-appointed lounges and then serve you a full meal on board. BA and VS at LHR, CX at HKG, QF at SYD, AF at CDG and many others spring to mind.

Just because the American carriers provide substandard service doesn't mean they should be protected from competition, despite having Chapter 11, Fly America rules etc. etc.

The Qatar experience looks very nice, indeed. Of course in light of today's news about FIFA arrests and the threat to Qatar World Cup I wonder what the reaction will be, if any, to commercial aviation. Timely report!

I'm something of a newbie (as you can tell by my enormous amount of posts) but that seems strange. Is that the case anywhere else? Where status passengers flying with an airline in one alliance have to use a lounge belonging to another alliance? It doesn't seem to fit with the general idea of alliances to me.

Very nice report as usual, sir! QR seems to a good addition to OW and I'd certainly opt for them over BA in CW on this route!

Isn't this similar to the situation with *Gs flying SQ out of SIN. Isn't that a SATS lounge?

Nice selection of pictures, thanks for sharing.

QR are a class act in J, ha d a few flights with them, the 787, 388 and I imagine 359, to fly in June, have a superb J layout, far better than the cramps BA layout. Catering and presentation is miles ahead too.

After CX, QR are my favourite carrier.
