Depending on the location of the North Atlantic Tracks of the day.....you might have flown over this half-moon shaped archipelago in the middle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and wondered what those Islands were down there.

Well.....it’s the Magdalens....or Iles de la Madeleine. Six main islands linked by dunes and sandbars....stretching across 80 km of ocean. The islands are a part of Quebec but the inhabitants are mostly Acadian (same ancestry as Louisiana’s Cajuns) ......and the culture, food and scenery make for a great trip!

Air Canada Express (Jazz) flies to YGR on Ile du Havre-aux- Maison from Montreal, Quebec City and Gaspe with Dash-8s. Pascan Aviation has a flight from Bonaventure and Quebec City on an ATR-42......and Nolinor was also there the day I visited with a Convair 580.
The Islands are a scenic gem with green fields against red sandstone cliffs of interesting shapes along with miles of white sand beaches stretching across the dunes. Water temperatures reach the 70s in late August.....especially in the lagoons along the sandbars.
The Islands are also link by car ferry to Prince Edward Island.....and in the summer by a cruise ferry to Montreal and the Gaspe Peninsula.
