Hi guys, this is the part 1 of a multi-stop trip report about my moving back to sunny Florida from Singapore.
After 6 years spent in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand I'm returning home in Miami, although with our Asia Pacific HQ
based in Singapore I will continue to fly back to the Lion City at least once every quarter.
So this trip report covers the 2 flights flown last Wednesday from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore and from Singapore to Milan, and next Thursday I'll continue onward to Miami.
For this trip, going against all my preferences for always flying with SkyTeam, I decided to fly Singapore Airlines (as I only experienced SQ
on shorter regional flights from/to Singapore and Beijing, Maldives and Denpasar).
So let's start with the first flight, the short hop between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, flown with SilkAir on Wed 30 Sep 2015:
flight: SilkAir MI 325
route: Kuala Lumpur-KLIA to Singapore-Changi
class: Business Class
cabin load: 7/12
schedule: dep. Kuala Lumpur-KLIA at 12 noon - arr. Singapore-Changi at 1pm (1h)
Quick check-in at the SilkAir business class counter, fast track for the passport control, short train ride to departing terminal and onward to the Silver Kris lounge
A quick visit to the SilverKris lounge at KLIA which is quite basic, with no style, no interior decor, and the only positive aspect is the view on the tarmac:
Flight delayed by fifteen minutes and boarding via gate C6
The SilkAir aircraft operating this flight is an A320 featuring 12 seats in the business class across 3 rows with a 2-2 layout.
Orange juice served as a welcome drink upon boarding and a quick look at the in-flight magazines
Then right after taking off the cabin attendant walks around the cabin taking the orders for the snack served onboard by selecting between a ciabatta with chicken & lime cilantro, or croissant with scrambled egg & roasted tomato:
And the snack is quickly served
After landing at Changi T2
I take the skytrain to T3
and straight to the SilverKris Lounge:
The lounge offers an ample selection of food and wines, and at almost 2pm it is lunch time starting with a glass of Charles Heidsieck champagne
and followed by viewing the food stations for lunch:
I tested and tasted the tagliatelle with zucchini and shrimps but the pasta was well overcooked instead of being al dente, resulting in something uneatable (at least for an Italian taste), while the chicken cacciatore was juicy and tasted great and accompanied with a great New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc
Time flies and at around 4:30pm the lounge team starts passing around serving the afternoon tea:
My selection goes for a scone and apricot pie and Earl Grey tea:
Then we get to dinner time and the entire food selection on display is geared towards dinner and supper
Baked fish fillets, cheese selection and the mandatory sweet side
The day has gone by between emails, follow-ups and a 9pm conf call with the Florida office (where it's 9am) while enjoying in-between the great Silver Kris lounge and eventually it's boarding time for the 2am flight to Milan via gate B2
flight: Singapore Airlines SQ 368
route: Singapore-Changi to Milan-Malpensa
class: Business Class
cabin load: 40/42
schedule: dep. Singapore-Changi at 2:05am - arr. Milan-Malpensa at 8:45am (12h 40')
The Business Class on the Singapore Airlines Boeing B777-300ER displays 42 seats in a 1-2-1 layout, with rows 11 and 12 in a separated section right after the First Class cabin, and rows 14-22 in the next section.
A smiling greeting upon boarding the aircraft and I walk to my seat 20A
Still on the ground and the f/a comes along offering a glass of Taittinger Brut Millesime 2007 which I enjoy while reading the menu presenting the supper and breakfast selections, the in-flight delectables, the wine list, the coffee selection by Illy, and the tea selection by TWG
Anyway when i booked my flight on the SQ
website I also made my selection for dinner and breakfast via the Book the Cook service.
And taking off from Changi
Then after the take off the cabin crew passes along distributing eye-shades, socks and slippers (there's no dedicated amenity kit), and the next round of champagne with warm nuts
Dinner time, at 3am, starting with an appetizer of crabmeat salad with avocado, radish, mesclun and cilantro oil:
For the main course i selected the classic Lobster Termidor from the Book the Cook menu available online, and here we go:
Well, the only thing i can say about this lobster dish is: amazingly full of taste
Next is the selection of cheese with red cheddar, camembert and blue stilton, accompanied with a glass of Marchesi De Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva 2010:
and concluding with a chocolate mocha cake with vanilla sauce:
Well past 4am, Singapore time, and after dinner why not viewing a movie? so here we go with Jurassic World:
And finally sleeping time, and turning the seat into a very comfortable bed:
Resting well, and after few hours of sound sleep we are flying over Iran, and time for a walk to the galley
Why not a mid-flight snack? from the delectable menu I select a ciabatta with grilled pumpkin and peppers, along with a good espresso coffee, and ... served in bed:
Another couple of hours of sleep and we are somewhere over Bulgaria and Romania, and it's breakfast time starting with a selection of sliced water melon and pomelo and blueberry muesli:
Then, as main course, I selected the Grilled Angus Beef Burger via the Book the Book service online:
Well, over 12 hours of flight, and close to landing at Milan-Malpensa airport on a sunny morning this past Thursday Oct 1st:
Overall great flight, very comfortable seat, good food, although I found the cabin crew acting quite robotic while performing the service and not engaging with the passengers.
Next week I’ll be flying to sunny Florida and will later post the continuation of this trip report.
