Our aircraft to LAX was arriving from OAK. It was delayed 30 minutes leaving OAK. Once the aircraft arrived and as passengers were deplaning, they began to have people in the “A” boarding group line up for boarding. About 5 minutes after the last of the passengers deplaned from the OAK flight, boarding began. I was in the “A” boarding group so I was one of the first to board. Once on board, the window seats were taken in the first few rows. I chose the first window seat that was open. I got settled in seat 9A. A flight attendant was standing directly behind me in row 10. She was telling a few people that there roller boards were too large, because the overhead bins on the 300 were smaller and that they would need to be checked. This slowed down boarding as these passengers had to bring their bags back to the front. One person sat in 9C, but 9B was empty. It was one of the only empty seats on the plane. Once the door was closed, we began to pushback less than a minute later. As we pushed back the flight attendants did a fast safety demo. Then the lights were dimmed as we began our taxi to 7L.

Takeoff

As we climbed to up to our cruising altitude of 32,000, the flight attendants came through the cabin to take drink orders. As the flight attendants came through with drinks they were also handing out peanuts and pretzels. This was a short flight and before long the seatbelt sign was turned on as we began our descent into LA. It was a straight in approach to runway 25L. We touched down at 751pm. A few minutes later we parked at gate 16B.

I had about an hour before my flight to PDX. I went to my next gate and boarding began about 25 minutes later. This flight was only about 60 % percent full. There were plenty of open seats and a lot of people had a row to themselves. Once boarding was complete we began our pushback, and began a very quick taxi to runway 24L. Once an AA 737-800 from ORD landed, we taxied onto runway 24L and began our takeoff roll. Once we were airborne we made a right turn and climbed up to our cruising altitude of 40,000 feet.

After takeoff

About 20 minutes after takeoff the flight attendants came through to take drink orders. Just like on the flight from PHX-LAX, the flight attendants brought out drinks and snacks. This flight was longer so the flight attendants came through multiple times with drinks and snacks. This plane had Wi-Fi that could be purchased for 8 dollars. The flight went by fast and before long we began our descent into PDX.

Once we arrived at the gate I went in the cockpit for a few minutes and talked to the pilots. After a few minutes I headed to the baggage claim.

Baggage claim

After a few days in PDX it was time to head back to PHX. My flight back was on AS. The first flight from PDX-SEA was on a QX Q400. From SEA-PHX would be on a 737-800. My sister had something she had to do that afternoon, so I got dropped off at PDX a few hours before my flight. I checked in and then headed to the parking garage to do some spotting before heading through security.

I had TSA PreCheck so I was able to avoid a pretty long line. Once I was through security I walked around the entire airport. There was not too much besides a few AS and WN 737s. A little while later I got some lunch and then found a place to charge my phone.

After a while I headed to gate A4. They had a few flights departing from the same gate area. They gate area was pretty congested. Boarding began approximately 15 minutes before our departure. We could board through the front or rear of the aircraft.

Boarding went by fast. The plane was full for the short hop up to SEA. We were ready to go for a few minutes before the door was closed. Once the door was closed we began our pushback as the flight attendants performed the safety demo. A few minutes later we began our taxi to runway 10L behind an AS 737-700. As we were holding short the captain made an announcement. Due to runway construction at SEA we had a wheels up time, and we would have to hold for just a few minutes. A few minutes later we taxied onto runway 10L and began a quick takeoff roll. After departure we made a left turn towards SEA and climbed up to 14,000 feet, for the short 33 minute flight. There was some light turbulence in the climb out. The flight attendants made an announcement that due to turbulence they may not be able to do a service on the short flight. A few minutes later it smoothed out and the flight attendants came through with water, apple juice or complimentary beer or wine as well as a snack. By the time the flight attendants finished their service, we were already descending into SEA.

FIDS

I had a little over an hour until boarding started for the flight down to PHX. Boarding began very early for this flight. About 45 minutes before departure they began pre boarding. This flight was about 70% full. Everyone was on the plane and we were ready to go 15 minutes before departure. The FO made an announcement regarding the weather and our flying time to PHX. He also added that the CA lived in PHX and would be the one flying us down, and that he would get us there as fast as possible because he wanted to get home. We began our pushback ontime and started our engines. A few minutes later we were rolling down runway 16L. As we climbed out of SEA, there was some pretty heavy turbulence and the captain made an announcement that the flight attendants needed to stay seated until he made a further announcement. Once it smoothed out the flight attendants came through the cabin with drinks, snacks and food for sale. Besides the turbulence leaving SEA and a few bumps on the way into PHX the rest of the flight was smooth.

Final for runway 8

We touched down on runway 8 at 1147pm. A few minutes later we parked at gate 11. A few minutes later I was on my way to baggage claim. It was a good weekend in Portland, and I was glad I was able to try out 2 new airlines, 2 new airplanes and 2 new airports.
