I read somewhere, that a Flying Tiger Boeing 747 200F was use in a project, to see if a 747 could be used as a military cargolifter. I believe I said something about it in the past, but with new members, I am going to try again, so do any body have any information about this project?
It wouldn't surprise me if such a project occurred, I'm interested to hear about it myself. Of course, 747s are used all the time today on military contract missions, carrying everything from mail to humvees.
Quoting TWA772LR (Reply 3): Slightly OT:
Some 747s were delivered to Iran as tankers. And the 747 was even proposed as a bomber at one point! I wonder what happened to that idea.
Boeing proposed them as cruise missile platforms in the 80s after Carter cancelled the B-1, but it never went anywhere.
Google CRAF 747, there were many converted airliners that had strengthened floors and cargo doors subsidised by the DoD and could be called upon in an emergency situation.
PanAm's ill fated N739PA was one such aircraft.
If your camera sends text messages, that could explain why your photos are rubbish!....well that might have changed!!!
I've actually posted this link before, but it's still an interesting read for those that would like to read on a potential "KC-747". I was most intrigued by the "Boeing on board loader" concept.
