So What Do You Do To Make A Buck Or Two Aside?

With the economy not being soo supernice at the moment, I'm sure lots of people look into errr... other ways of making a bit aside.

I thought of a website concept for quite some time but need more planning to get it up and running, but in general, what do you do for making a buck here or there?

Apart from working overtime, or finding a 2nd job, (or being a Nigerian scam writer  Wink), what opportuneties did you find / know of?

Would be interesting what's out there apart from the likes of Google moneytree etc.

I used to supply Getty Images and Matrix Syndication so cover events / freelance photojournalism on the side.

I have just started doing freelance web development on the side, I figured I may as well put my talents to use seen as all i seem to do in my day job is write documents and attend meetings.

I do some freelance translation work.

Having a full-time job means I can't always take everything I'm offered, but still makes for a nice income boost and a handy way to spend those long airport hours and hotel stays.

A good way of sorting that out for ever would be including the email address on your website like this:

mail [at] translate.com

instead of "@", like that it doesn't get picked up by spammers.

Seriously! That's a very poor job. Has to be one of the worst Spanish translations I've seen.  yuck 

I was also thinking about getting into the translation deal (English/Spanish) but I've never gotten around to it.

I contract out doing some engineering / design work with SolidWorks. I'm a Certified SolidWorks Instructor, so when people need me to do some work for them, I do it, as long as there is no conflict with the company I work for. I love working for them and they treat me very well, so I wouldn't want to step on any toes.

So yeah, mostly Mech. Engineering designs.

You're kidding me! Lived in Madrid for 10 years and know Mostoles well (one of my best friends is from there). I cannot believe this was written by a native Spaniard! Had he/she had a few dozen pints of beer before doing it? If not, I cannot explain such poor Spanish (I'm sure any of our Spanish a.netters can verify that the translation is AWFUL).

Not picking on you Signol, just a freindly observation in case you are serious about making a bit on the side with translation, as I severly doubt any native Spaniards who reads your site in Spanish would you send you work (mainly because you're advertising a translation business, thus it is so important your website is well translated). Again, please don't take this as offensive criticism, just health advice for you!

For some extra dough I do handyman work. Painting, trim, doors etc. etc. I work with a buddy who just retired and started his own handyman business. I work with him when he needs extra help. $100 a day isn't too bad.

Although I don't do it any more, I used to assemble flatpack furniture for people who didn't have a clue at about £15/hour. You'd be amazed how many people are crap with IKEA products.

Nothing aside from overtime. If I did, I'd have to get approval from work. Under administrative rules, court employees are required to seek the court's permission to engage in outside work or volunteer activities. If the court determines that the activities will not take away court time and/or create a possible conflict of interest, then the court will permit the activity.

Those adjective clusters (3+) sound very artificial to Spanish speakers. Try to move around that whenever possible, this would sound better.

On a second read yeah you're right. Then again I've seen big clusters like that in Mexico, could be a regional thing.
