Large Photo FTP Upload Related Thread...

Sun Dec 19, 2004 10:05 am

Hi there,

I am for a temporary time taking over the administration of the FTP upload feature.

First of all, all of you who has signed up and gotten an error 2, please contact me via email. Most of the errors 2 are most probably caused by the recently discovered fact that the ftp server used does not really comply to the UNIX password standards, thus meaning that if you get that error, try changing you password in the user profile section, 8 chars max, and alphanumeric. But before this will work, I will probably have to remove your user from the userlist.

All connection problems should be posted in this thread so that all users can get a benefit from the different ways to solve this. Also, a web interface is probably on its way for you who are totally blocked out because of the high port number.

Regards

I am having problems with the FTP Upload. From my home computer (connected via T-Online DSL) I get the following message and the file transfer does not work:

Status :> Connecting to FTP site. Please wait ...
:> 220 Airliners.net Photo Upload Ftp Ready
FTP Cmd :> USER EDDL
:> 331 Password required for EDDL.
FTP Cmd :> PASS [** password not shown **]
:> 230 User EDDL logged in.
FTP Cmd :> TYPE A
:> 200 Type set to A.
FTP Cmd :> PWD
:> 257 "/" is current directory.
FTP Cmd :> PORT 192,168,2,100,11,241
:> 200 PORT command successful.
FTP Cmd :> LIST -latr
:> 425 Can't build data connection: No route to host.
Status :> FTP listing done (/)

BUT: when uploading from my university network (same computer, same software) it does work fine.

Anything I can do to solve this problem?

Best regards,
EDDL

The first thing that i can think of is probably trying to change the ftp from "active" to "passive" or the opposite. You should find that setting somewhere in your client.

Can't find that option in my client software (Crystal FTP). I am a bit puzzled as everything works fine when connecting from a different local network.

In Crystal FTP you can find that option in the menu tree:
Tools->Options->Connection->Firewall->Ftp Connection Type

4 choices are presented there. Try the Direct and the Direct (passive) and let me know if that helped.

Could somebody remind me of the FTP address and port number for sending large images to the airliners.net buy prints option, I have lost the e-mail that was sent out when signing up.

Thanks,

Jon (221 prints sold)

Dear Photographer,

This is an automatic email sent out with login information for your FTP account that can be used to upload hi resolution photos for our Photo Print Sales section.

The photos you send to us via FTP will not be available online. They will only be used to create high quality prints.

Please read these important rules regarding our FTP service:

1. The images you upload MUST be named idnumber.jpg (for instance, 12345.jpg).

2. After each file has been uploaded, you will get a message
from the FTP Server in the data field. Be sure to read this
message as it will tell you if the file was successfully uploaded
or not. Other errors will also show at the data field.

3. When done uploading the photos, go to the verify section at www.airliners.net/myphotos/ and click "Large Prints" and
then click "Verify Uploaded Photos".

There you will find small versions of the files you just uploaded. If the image seems correct
check the "Add this image for sale" button and then press the submit button.

If you do not have any experience with FTP (File Transfer Protocol), you can find basic information here:
http://www.ftpplanet.com/ftpresources/basics.htm

Your username and password to the ftp is:

Username: XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Password: XXXXXXXXXXXXX

FTP Server address: www.airliners.net
FTP Server port: 1121

Please direct any questions regarding this service to our FTP administrator, [email protected]
