Does anybody know if the Lufthansa 742 (D-ABYM), which has been donated to the "Technikmuseum Speyer" already arrived in Karlsruhe/Baden?
Any pictures of the landing?

I saw -YM departing from Runway 18 at FRA at about 11.30am so she sould have arrived at FKB half an hour later.

Yes, Vfw614, it was definitely a very short take-off run. I´m not sure whether you know runway 18, but the 747 took off just when it was passing the fire department and the small viewing platform (usually only smaller planes like 737´s are fast enough in this area) where I was standing, so I´m really looking forward to seeing the photos.

Check this one (only in German), in brief it says that soon, pictures of the trasferred 747-230 will be available on the website of Baden Airpark http://www.badenairpark.de/FRAME.htm and that the 747-230 "Schleswig-Holstein will be static for the next eight weeks at Baden-Söllingen.

Great pics! Thanks for posting that link, D-AQUI! I think Schleswig-Holstein will need a re-paint before being displayed at the museum - looks a little shabby.
Frankm: Yes there is a really great spotting opportunity near Startbahn West. Take the road from north (Kelsterbach, e.g.) to Cargo City Süd, just before entering the tunnel under Startbahn West, there is a small car park on the right-hand side, with a small path to a viewing platform, which is for free. (I'm sure 9V-SPF and all the other FRA insiders can offer you a more detailed description)
I used to work at FRA last summer, and I always had the early shift. So I always spent the afternoons on this platform - better than my small hotel room. I had a really great time there!

Yes, Frankm, as Ndebele has stated, there is a small, but very attractive viewing platform at Rwy18.
How to get there? Uhh, depends on where you are coming from. Most people are taking the A3, so I guess you will arrive from this direction as well. Take the exit to the airport, then follow the signs to Terminal 1. Be aware of not driving to the parking lots and head for the Airportring into the direction of Mörfelden(it should be the very right lane). Now you have to pass Cargo City Süd and drive along the Airportring (be careful, tempo limit is 50km/h and there are speed controls regularly). After a bend to the left, it´s approximately 1km and just before the tunnel, you have to stop a the parking opportunities on the right side. Then take a walk across that little path and you will soon be lokking a rwy18 and some beautiful airplanes taking off. Have fun!

If I am reading this correctly, it says they will be dismantleing the aircraft in Baden-Baden, loading it onto ships to be moved close to Sinsheim, then transferred to trucks for the rest of the journey.
I guess there will not be much to see in late February when I go to Germany from Texas?

On the website shown above, it says that the aircraft will stay at FKB for the next eight weeks - I guess that's the time they need to remove parts which are still of value, install old parts without value instead, and cut the aircraft into pieces. But do you really want to visit FKB? All you will see is an aircraft cut into several pieces. You're from Texas, so I think you have plenty of old airliners there in the desert. If I were you, I'd rather spend my time at FRA, because beside this 747, you won't see much traffic at FKB, maybe one or two Dash-8s.
