I happened to be there for that live and in person. It was the most surreal thing I’ve seen in 20+ years of working on the water. I remember racing up the river expecting a disaster and telling my crew to be prepared for the worst case scenario and boom-miracle. After the dust settled, I even got to go down and fly the pmUS A320 sim with some of Sully’s colleagues. What a time that was!
Were you a ferry captain? I bet you have one heluva story.
Yes I was indeed it and was quite the day-it otherwise would’ve been a very very boring and mundane day (which in the scheme of things is generally good!)
Here’s a few YouTube videos of the simulator flight. I was a “high time” A320 Flight Sim pilot going into the sim. (Also-if you’re interested, my channel also has more aviation videos from trips I’ve taken as well as some video game and union stuff) https://youtu.be/Tp_hTstF03whttps://youtu.be/qVJOQ8CQdQghttps://youtu.be/-1OcYIDw_KAhttps://youtu.be/hzZuUoLEgGwhttps://youtu.be/oabSzOKbQuw
Sully graciously signed my book when he came back to visit a year later.
