Iberia A346 burts tyre upon landing today @ EZE
Airbus A340-600 EC-IZY Ignacio de Zuloaga as IB#6841 MAD-EZE burst a tyre upon landing this morning at Buenos Aires EZE. Plane was carrying 305 paxs + crew.

Same route and airline Angela Merkel flew just one day earlier, no? Imagine her frustration if she had been on this flight after the mess with her A340.

A346 and Iberia seem to mean burst tyre on landing quite often. They damaged (more severely I believe) another gear in UIO not long time ago, this event now in EZE. Not a nice week to leave stranded pax in EZE with the River vs Boca soon taking place in Madrid. IB won't operate any extra frequencies, and the flights are sold out for either the 6th, the 7th and the 8th.

Iberia have a habit of putting A340s down a little too firmly in that part of the world. I've lost count of how many times now.

Prices have gone up threefold since the announcement on the three airlines that fly the route: AR, IB & UX (both from EZE & COR). Even Norwegian is reporting full flights via LGW. Christmas came early this year for some airlines.

Well, you are probably thinking of a couple of mishaps at UIO, one which ended with a w/o A346 in 2007. Iberia has been operating continuously for 72 years in Buenos Aires (even before EZE existed) with an unblemished safety record. From a distance, UIO and EZE may seem close or the same region, but fact is they are separated by a 6 hour flight.

Her plane broke down the night before. She didn't have many options if she wanted to be in time for dinner at the summit. I guess IBERIA had the first available flight to Buenos Aires.

Just a clarification: Merkel is not the head of state.
I think she flew IB because it was the quickest way to getting to Buenos Aires (by the time Konrad Adenauer landed in CGN, the LH service to Buenos Aired had left already - and don't think LH can provide with such short notice a plane for her).

Wonder where one finds an A340NG main gear door on short notice? Is it the same part that you'd find on an A330 or original A340?

I am sure a replacement part was flown (or will be flown) from MAD. Iberia alone has 3 flights. AR 2 and UX 1 on a given day, so not shortage of lift. I am not sure if the A343 and A332 doors that AR uses are compatible with the A346.
