Tajik Air ceases operations

Sat Jan 19, 2019 1:32 am

It seems that Tajik Air has ceased operations since 1 January.
Some of its operations have been overtaken by Somon Air, which was already becoming a sort of a flag carrier for Tajikistan.

Very sad news that the airline ceased operation. Do they have widebody aircraft as well?
If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

Tajik Air flew a single B737-300, a single B757-200 and a single B767-200. Plus helicopters for the remote domestic services.

Somon Air said they were looking to purchase a used 767, while their MOU for a 787 is materialized.

They are also looking a E-Jet for expansion and to add frequency.

Very sad to this hear this. I hope a route back into business can be found for them, especially as domestic connectivity is badly needed.

Having done much of Central Asia, I’ve still not visited Tajikistan. Years ago I was sold on the ideal of a thrilling ride in a Yak-40 through the valleys into Khorog. Still waiting and hoping...

Actually, I think they already have it, but they did not put it in operation for some reason.

By the way, here are some more news about Tajik Air:

Tajik had an old ex-ATA 757 and an old ex-DL B763 (non-ER). The 757 could head to Iran via some chicanery, but I expect the 767 to be scrapped. (They also had two 737 Classics - a B733 and a B735).

Somon Air has two 737s that are almost 30 years old, but their four NGs are less than 12 years old (2 B738s ex-SG and 2 B739s bought new and registered in Bermuda, formerly Aruba - which Somon Air owns). Somon Air is also the only active carrier in Tajikstan now, but the domestic Tajikstan market is a problem now as Somon Air has no regional planes.
