Hopefully the route does well and it goes year round instead of seasonal. Have a great flight.

Will the AMS-TPA aircraft arrive into Concourse F and then be towed over to Concourse E for departure?

Have a good flight!

Why do certain cities only have CDG (CVG, IND & RDU) while others have AMS!? Is it related to the traffic mixture (The Dutch like to go to Florida, French not so much...). While they're at it they should have launched RDU-AMS also as there's actual business traffic in RDU due to tech.

Looks like N830NW is doing both the DL 164 and the DL 78 !
How come DL don't operate any daylight east coast - AMS flights ?

Companies from CVG, RDU and IND have a lot of business specifically in Paris while others with flights to AMS have more onward connections. CDG has plenty of onward connections of course, but business travelers prefer to connect over AMS.

Just a guess, but daylight eastbound flights don't work well for connections. They will either leave too early from the USA, arrive too late to AMS, or both. Take the schedule of DL134 for example, and adjust the schedule by 12 hours. The typical schedule is 1800 departure from DTW and 0800 arrival to AMS. A daylight version would leave DTW at 0600 (too early for inbound connections) and arrive in AMS at 2000 (too late for many onward connections). A hypothetical return flight (based on DL135 +12h) would leave AMS at 2220, and arrive to DTW at about 0100. That might be attractive to a DTW resident trying to squeeze every minute of daylight from their European vacation, but doesn't work for onward connections. If you keep the plane overnight at AMS then the aircraft utilization takes a big hit.

The daylight eastbound concept can work for specific high-demand O&D routes, but not very well for routes that rely on connections.

Cincinnati (CVG) is notably absent from this list. More proof DL is missing out by not having any 787-8 in its fleet.

I’d love to see it, but launching a flight like that out of a competitor’s hub would be a very bold and risky move.

You wouldn't have CVG-AMS even with 787-8s in the fleet. CVG needs to be happy with CVG-CDG, which offers most of the major connectivity of AMS.

It would probably be on KL metal. I'm actually genuinely surprised KL doesn't fly DEN-AMS, but it's probably a slot and plane issue.

Tonight's (5/23) flight is turning from ATL, so no international arrival. Tonight's flight to AMS is leaving from gate E64. Checking FR24, looks like FI885 would arrive into Airside F and leave from Airside E, so I'd imagine this will be a similar setup for DL. Likewise, the Saturday-only CUN flight also operated by DL does this same arraignment.

It's served from CDG, and the 763 is more than adequate. The lack of 787s in DLs fleet is irrelevant here.

In 10 years time it might be a relevant statement though.

Delta over the years usually has about 20 flights a day in summer at AMS.

This is a shame for KL pax base that don't have options -or have very few - to fly on KL metal to DL hubs.

There must be people who prefer KL hard and soft product over DL's.

LH and BA do split hub-to-hub flights with UA and AA so customers can choose whatever fits better for them.

DL has a negotiated balance of flying with JV partners AF/KL. Tell Delta pilots they ought to do less flying and KL more.

The absence of a JV would just mean fewer flights AMS - U.S., not more.

Not sure what you mean, KLM flies on their own metal to BOS, ATL, MSP, NYC, SLC, LAX. All DL hubs.

I wonder if this will continue when Airside D (the future international terminal) opens. I guess it’s easier to move one aircraft than multiple connecting Delta pax out and back through security.

Its worth remembering, in terms of Transatlantic traffic, the AA-BA Joint Venture is the largest from one airport (LHR)

American Airlines' own flights total 20 a day in Summer 2019 across

LHR Arrivals:
0620 - New York JFK - B777
0635 - Raleigh Durham RDU - B777
0650 - Chicago O'Hare ORD - B787

Making DL at AMS larger than AA at LHR. Remarkable how BA seems to do most flying from LHR and DL from AMS vis a vis their joint venture partners, while all JV's have some form of equality clause between the partners on both side of the Atlantic. Maybe the balance does exist when taking the other European partners in account.

You have to consider that the AMS-USA JV formed between KLM and NWA dates way further into the past compared to the Star (LH Group+United+AirCanada) or the Oneworld (IB-BA-AA +AY+RJ).

I still think the NW/KLM "alliance" developed a deeper relationship between the two, than any of the current multi-way Atlantic JVs.

Europeans could not join NW WorldPerks while NorthAmericans couldn't join KLK Flying Dutchman, so imagine how low in NW/KLM priorities was to let passengers choose the hard/soft product of each airline.

As other have explained above, in other posts, and i would presume, aslo below, the "flying quota" has to be maintain within the JV. So cretain number of ASK/M have to be flown by KLM planes and staff and viceversa for Delta.

These kind of JV alliances usually set that any AMS-USA can be flown by Delta or KLM, choosing the operator with the best aircraft performance for that given route. But there are other cost factor to take into account.

If TPA is already served by DL from ATL,JFK,BOS,DTW, etc... and DL has already a sizeable operation of (let's say) 20 flights, it might make more sense to add just 1 flight from AMS and upgrade the contracts to 21 flights, than let KLM start the route and open up a new station from scratch for just 1 daily flight.

That might be the main reason why we see so many DL non-hub "exotic destinations from AMS" instead of being flown by KLM.

For AA to reach that level of co-operation, while maintaining the % of cuota in the UK-US, they would have to drop some LHR services from LAX, MIA, ORD, DFW, PHL, CLT, PHX or God forbid... JFK!!!!

So the rich BA-AA mix there is between LHR and AA hubs is just the symptom of lack of integration, rather than anything else. AA has its slots and routes and routes while BA has its own.
At least LHR-RDU behaves like DL/KL at AMS. BA/AA haven't decided to switch the sole AA longhaul route over to BA.

763s, A330s, and a lone 777. Todays DL lineup vs NWs lineup at AMS is boring.
When wasn't America great?

Correction:
2 777
1 A350

So 4 Different AC types. Much more varied than NW. At the time of the merger the mix was A330/ 744 and an occasional 757. Prior to 2003 it was all DC10/ 742

This isn't quite true. Here are the totals from May through August of this year:

AA to LHR: Flights = 5,166, Seats = 1,474,484
DL to AMS: Flights = 5,080, Seats = 1,390,860

So they're essentially the same size, though AA to LHR is a bit bigger.

LH and BA do split hub-to-hub flights with UA and AA so customers can choose whatever fits better for them.

Exactly and Detroit is a big whole when it comes to KLM service into the Delta hubs.

Not sure what you mean, KLM flies on their own metal to BOS, ATL, MSP, NYC, SLC, LAX. All DL hubs.

Yes but KLM is blocked from serving Detroit for some odd reason.

Wow. With that many crew members overnight, what are the arrangements they have at AMS for them. That's gotta be 200+ crew members we're talking.

It’s about total flights a day not about seats.

Be interesting see UA to FRA in comparison too.

What I meant was quite clear, will say it again just in case:

There are much fewer flights on KL metal to DL hubs. For example only one out of eight dailies to ATL + DTW is on KL metal

UA has a significantly larger operation at LHR than FRA. Something like 17 v 10 daily flights off the top of my head.

Why would KLM or AirFrance have to "open up a new station from scratch" when DL handles all operations, just like KLM/AirFRance handle all DL ops on the other side?

This is not a proper theory
I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list!

Does Delta have many non hub originating international routes these days?
