United 738 Designations

Fri Jul 05, 2019 9:45 am

I’ve noticed on the flight status page that United has various 738 types, one designated a 738SPF, another 738W. I think I remember another as well but cannot recall how it’s listed. No other aircraft seems to have these suffix designations.

I tried google and couldn’t find anything using various parameters, forum search and nothing could be found and nothing on United’s website, unless I missed it. (I thought it might be because of cabin layout, but nothing was indicated).

Thanks in advance for any information.

Maybe some airplanes have the continental customercode?

They all do.

All 800s were delivered pre-merger, and also all 900s are 924s even if they were ordered post-merger.

Wrong. #530 to 542 were all delivered post merger, the bulk of which in 2016-2017.

How many of the -800s have the sky interior? I believe UA switched their MAX order from the -8 to the -9 right? I’d imagine most of the -800s have a good decade before a replacement is due?

Not sure how many have sky interior but it’s very few. UA 737s are badly in need of a refresh with Boeing Space Bins and Sky interior, and better WiFi!

Better Wi-Fi is one thing, but can a 737 even be retrofitted with the Sky Interior? I didn't think it was possible, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't know enough about the Space Bins to comment on that.

Looks like it is possible, but even Boeing says it is expensive.

Copy. Looks like I technically wasn't wrong, just outdated information. I didn't know they allowed retrofits at some point.

The Majority of 737's are -724's, 824's and 924's But there are quite a few -922's as well, the Max airplanes are just -9's But I would guess the 924's and the -922's are nearly Identical unless you were tp read the registration certificate...

There were 33 922's ordered to placate UAALPA that are Not UA-CO ordered but United ordered before I retired. By now they could be the Max9's

False. All -900s regardless of who ordered them are -924s.
