Why no UA 788/789 at EWR?

Wed Aug 21, 2019 1:12 am

Why doesn't UA fly 788/789 out of EWR since the 788/789 were order was inherited from CO?

Because Continental doesn’t exist and those planes are better suited elsewhere?

The operations of the Boeing 787-9 begin in December with the route to Newark - Cape Town, there are rumors of Newark - Bangalore (BLR) possibly with Boeing 787-9
CX - JL - LH - KE - KL - SQ - QR - QF - TG

Lol United also ordered 787s before the merger.

Through the merger, United thought it was prudent to use the 787 primarily over the Pacific to help supplement and eventually augment the 744 as well as open interior China, which hindsight is 20/20 and it wasn't until after having a hard time with that that UA realized they couldnt handle the onslaught of Chinese ULCCs. India wouldve been better suited for expansion with the 787, which is rumored to be on the horizon.

UA has used the 787 to its advantage and it is paying off. The premium heavy 767 has always found a good home in EWR even with CO. Times are changing, markets are growing, and UA will still continue to shuffle where needed.
When wasn't America great?

UA is 787-10 at EWR at the moment. As enough pilots are trained to support more 787 flying in the base, 789s will flow in. There are a dozen or more 787s on the way and many of them will be flying from EWR and IAD.

Because CO didn’t have SFO, LAX, DEN and IAD?

That is one of the huge gaps in terms of nonstop service to and from North America. I know UA has a top-up for nine B789s

As for the B788, I can't really see that out of EWR (save a last-minute equipment change) as the NYC market is so big and except for the premium-heavy B763s, everything out of EWR long-haul on a wide-body would have at least 252 seats.
