Have you landed at the alphabet?

Fri Nov 29, 2019 6:14 am

I'm not sure if I posted this last year or not, for a while it became something of an a.net tradition on Graciasgiving.

For newbies, the game is simple: Assemble your List of Airports You've Landed At. You have to have been a ticketed passenger aboard a scheduled or charter commercial flight, jumpseating/nonrevving/crewing and general av don't count. If the flight was scheduled to land at Airport A but ended up diverting to Airport B for Wx, Mx, whatever reasons, then landing at Airport B counts. Airports that you have taken off from but never landed at are not (yes, history has shown I actually have to explain this) eligible for inclusion your List of Airports You've [...you know] Landed At.

If the resulting list includes airports with IATA designators that start with each letter of the alphabet, then you have landed at the alphabet!!

Me, I have
A (ATL, ABQ)
B (BOS, BDL)
C (CLT, CVG, CLE)
D (DEN (Stapleton), DEN (DIA), DFW)
E (EWR)
F (FLL)
G (GDL, GEG)
H
I (IAD, IAH)
J (JFK, JAX)
K
L (LAX, LIH, LAS)
M (MKE, MCI, MEX, MIA, MDW)
N
O (ORD, OAK)
P (PVD, PHX, PDX, PBI)
Q
R (RDU)
S (SAN, SJC, SFO, SEA, SNA, STL)
T (TPA)
U
V
W
X
Y (YVR, YEG, YUL, YYZ)
Z (ZIH)

So I am missing eight letters (K, W, and N are tought to get in the U.S.).
Pancakes are delicious.

Nothing special actually. I work in field service, building power plants, therefore I am quite often flying to some weird places I've never heard of before anywhere on the world. Just google where the airports RPR, RAE, BSK or BDQ are located. QSF (Setif/Ain Arnat) was one of those in Algeria. I didn't do or see anything special there. Just been staying at my power station, doing my job as fast as possible and then getting out there ASAP. Been a few times to Algeria already.

First time I've looked at this. I've made 21 of 26 - this list is airports (a lot of military fields included) I've flown into as a pilot, there's another couple dozen I've flown into as a passenger, but they don't add any letters to my list..

A - AEX / ALB
B - BAD / BDL / BHM / BLV / BDR / BAB
C - CBM / CHS
D - DXR
E - EWB
F - FFO / FRG / FSM / FWH / FOK

I tend to fly to the same airports so my list is not growing.. 14 letters covered. Even less impressive considering the first entries are 50 years ago.

However, my list begs a definition - it is the airports' codes at the time of the landing. This means I have not landed at DMK even if I have landed at Don Muang. And as far as I know HLF (Hultsfred) doesn't have an IATA code anymore (even if Wikipedia says otherwise). I don't think there has been commercial traffic to HLF for over a decade, although it still exists as a GA airport.

A- ARN AGH AMS
B- BMA BKK (Don Muang) BKK (Suvarnabhumi)
C- CPH CEB

If we're going to be that strict about it, I'm going to have to remove some airports from my list that I've included for years and years. Yes, I know, if you go by the exact letter of the title is does say "landed", but I've always considered these threads to be about airports we've been to regardless of whether it was taking off or landing.

Airports in italics are new for this year.

I'm still missing the same letters as last year, and now I need a new letter T since TLL apparently doesn't count since I only took off from there (I included it in previous years with a note indicating such).

Cool thread, here's what I think I've done on commercial or charter flights - have two marginal airports but technically did land there. Left off some seaplane landings, missing the elusive N, Q, V, W, and Z but managed to cover the K, T, U, and X :
