He asserts that war games shows the US losing - consistently - to China. Our goal seems to be dominance in the Western Pacific, their goal is to deny the US that dominance. We have chosen the wrong goal and having chosen wrongly, we are not even going about it expeditiously. I have ordered the book, and will make a report(s) here as I read it.

The assertion is backwards.

The Chinese goal is to implement a Greater East-Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere similar to what the Japanese military envisioned in the 1930s. To control sea lanes, commerce and the access to external markets of other nations in Asia such as South Korea, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, even Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.

No, the United States has no ability or desire to 'save' the world, especially in that area. But there is a US interest in keeping the sea lanes and access to markets open.

While there will be minor military posturing, probably a few collisions at sea or 'accidental' sinking of ships from smaller nations in the Far East, the battle will be 'fought' on the economic frontier, not the military frontier. Taiwan will choose to give up their 'independence' from China in 20-30 years or so. The Formosa Strait will become completely Chinese 'inland' waters, as will most of the South China Sea.

China will use their population and market share to win the battle.
Not all who wander are lost.

My copy will not arrive until this coming Wednesday. I will, in my reports, generally avoid giving my own views until after I have finished the book and reports. Generally I support all of our current alliances, but do think we have been unnecessarily belligerent throughout the world. China is committing the same sorts of faults as well.
