I did a most sad covid-19 retirements recently, so I wanted to look at the opposite side of the coin.

For me, most A380 retirements are not that sad. I don't know, I'm just not a fan of the A380. The 777x and 787 are more efficient, the 747 is more iconic and historic, the A330neo/A350 are also efficient, and even the Mcdonnell Douglas DC-10/MD-11/Airbus A340/Lockheed TriStar are loved by AvGeeks since they are such underdogs, and most of those sold better or made a bigger impact on aviation, especially the Tristar. I personally like the MD-11 as my second favorite plane, behind B757.
On the other forum, I said that most 747 retirements, Air canada 767, Delta 777, Delta MAD DOG, and AA 757/767/e190/a330s were sad. All retirements have a specialty and all can be sad in different ways. I just personally don't like the A380... What about you?

I would say there's a difference between the heart and the mind on the A380. From a logical perspective it took the mass carrier approach to the extreme and had 4 huge thirsty engines and required many specific improvements on the ground to accommodate it. On the other hand, it was a passenger's dream aircraft....smooth, quiet, spacious....on biz and 1st it was incomparable and a market leader. So overall I feel it is sad to lose this fleet before its time. I'm glad to see the back of the B717 and DC9s/ MD80s....horrible in every respect

Yeah I could understand how an AvGeek would be sad at the A380. We all have our own opinions.

I suppose the A380 is also a matter of where you sit. It won't be going from my home airport for a while and, when it does, capacity constraints may be exacerbated. Pre-COVID, we had multiple A380 daily, from QF, ME3, SQ and CZ all apart fomr CZ with good (and sometimes high) loads.
