I’ve been thinking about former Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle and whether she would be interested in running for POTUS in the future. She’s a former 2-term Republican Governor who was able to win twice in a blue state.
Yes, she lost the Senate race in 2012 to Mazie Hirono, but that was a bad year for the GOP anyway. She was elected twice in a blue state so she has eight years of executive branch experience that many potential candidates do not have.
A downside is that she’s more liberal socially (I read she’s pro-abortion), so that may not fly in more conservative areas of the mainland. She is Jewish and very pro-Israel, so that would help with the GOP base.
I think she’d be interesting if she decided to run in 2024. I also like Nikki Haley, so the 2024 field will be interesting to say the least.

She's 67 now, by the next election she'll be 71, haven't you had enough old people in the White House?

I think Nikki Haley would have a better chance.

Linda Lingle is a different breed of Republicans and Hawaii isn't exactly the place where you'd go looking for any of them. There are a total of 6 Republicans in the Hawaiian Legislature (5 in the House and 1 in the Senate) and Duke Aiona is likely the only Republican with statewide recognition. The only reason she won in 2002 was because the perceived favorite in the race withdrew and tarnished the HDP's image. In 2006 she was reelected for being a competent governor, but even competence is not enough in the era of Trump. Many other governors were competent in the 00s and failed to consolidate support in 2012 and 2016. And if she can't even carry Hawaii at the federal level, Republicans may not even bother (not like they'll care either given HI's 4 votes...maybe as VP)
