Currently loaded for sale at 3x weekly resuming Dec. 13, 2020.

As with everything in the current environment, highly subject to change.

"scheduled" in 2020 and 2021 has become optimistic planning and expecting demand will come back. All subject to change.

This one I bet has a much higher shot as delta has no other option then to push people to klm or af if they delay and that adds alot of time thru Europe. Of course pending borders are open/ stay open etc

It doesn't, really, relative to travel times for that distance already.

Examples from schedules of early January:

ORD-ATL-JNB, 19 hrs, Great Circle distance 9,045 sm

ORD-AMS-JNB, 21:35, 9,704 sm

LAX-ATL-JNB, 21 hrs

LAX-AMS-JNB, 22:10

What's the timing of AMS-JNB though? In past, going to SA via Europe often ends up in double red-eyes, but I guess there could be day-time flights either into AMS or AMS-JNB

Probably mid 2023. US citizens won’t be allowed anywhere for a while.

I know, that was my slightly depressed I you really want to travel internationally very soon answer. I think it’s only around 20 or 30 countries and a lot of them have a PCR test requirement.

So then US citizens are allowed to travel internationally now, and the number is higher than 30 countries that allow entry. Contradicts you saying US citizens “won’t be allowed anywhere for a while.

I think you miss the tongue in cheek in my answer. We can travel but it is to an extremely limited amount of places. And considering the situation here I wouldn’t be shocked to see that list shrink. Regarding the OP about South Africa returni g, do you route is driven by business travel and that is hard to come by at the moment.

If I had to make an educated guess I would probably say January or February. They even have Canada on their list of high-risk countries so they are being very cautious. I was thinking they would almost just do Cape Town because it is more of a tourist destinations and I think that is more likely to fill up a plane while business demand is down.

SA borders are closed to all countries except specific cases such as business, education or repatriation.
