C919- purple splotch on the flaps?

Tue Nov 03, 2020 12:56 am

There's a great photo of the C919 on the front page right now:

But looking more closely, I noticed something odd- a splotch of purple/blue on the top of port inboard flap. Does anyone know what this might be? Some sort of leaked fluid, or maybe overspray from painting (although how one would get such a large, messy spot of paint in that particular area is beyond me).

Well, that appears to be Skydrol purple. That’s hydraulic fluid, but it’s that color when it’s new and fresh. But, that’s a very strange presentation for a leak.

Too dark for skydrol, might be some kind of flow viz paint, like they use on F1 cars during practice session, its a way of seeing real life flow over a surface.

Definitely not hydraulic fluid.
Looks like somebody spilled some purple paint on the flap leading edge, halfheartedly cleaned it up with a rag, and retracted the flaps so nobody would see it before the flight.

Flow visualization paint from a previous test which hid inside the wing and couldn't get washed?

Are you suggesting the photo is a fake, taken on the ground with the apu running and then photoshopped?

Looks like some kind of device that was taped on the inside to me, maybe go-pro stand or some other instrument/measuring device? Although it kinda looks like runway lights as well...

On this picture on another website, it would appear there is indeed something taped on the windows
