Volcanic Eruption in St.Vincent Since Last Month

Thu May 27, 2021 6:57 pm

I am kind of surprised that this topic has not appeared yet, but a volcano started erupting in St.Vincent last month and displaced about 20 percent of the population. La Soufrière started erupting April 9 after being dormant since 1979 and building have been damaged, along with water supplies and agriculture being devastated. Heavy ash has fallen across the island and heavy rainfall in late April made the situation worse. It is hard for the people of St.Vincent and hope that they can pull through this.

Because La Soufrière is not building up a lava dome now. So it is now only one of all of the active vulcanos globally, making a little bit smoke. It is only a small regular eruption, with no real danger of building of a pyroclastic flow. When it starts to build up a lava dome....than it starts to get "interesting". Than it is time to discuss it.

Satellite-based images confirmed that no actively growing lava dome appears within the summit crater at this moment and there is no indication that the volcano will return to a dome growing phase again.

It was discussed in the Caribbean Aviation thread when the eruption resulted in the closure of a couple regional airports due to ash clouds.
