What a way to end a crappy year, as if she knew not to start the next year with this horrible news. We throw the words "star" and "legend" around very freely these days, but she was the real deal. Thanks for the laughs Betty, your like will not be seen again.

We really need a break from all this sickness and death. Sometimes it becomes very overwhelming. Betty lived a full life and made millions of people happy. She’s a legend and she will be terribly missed.

When they started running those stories, I just knew she wasn't going to get there. Quite sad, her career spanned many generations and I suspect there is no one who watched TV in the US who didn't see and enjoy her work.

I only got to see Mary Tyler Moore reruns and she was hilarious. My favorite was, of course, every St. Olaf story on Golden Girls. Sonja Klingenhoffer. "That's what the crow said!!" She was one of a kind.

Today is a day of renewal. I believe we need to embrace life and good health while we have it. Sickness and death have always been with us. As a person gets older, there is no break; in fact, it gets far more intense.
So we should salute Betty White on a life well lived. It was her life that was remarkable, not her death.

I agree. However, there’s been an unusually high number illnesses and deaths in my personal life, including my grandma, who passed in September. She was very special to me and it was a devastating blow. I can only take comfort in knowing that she’s no longer in pain. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

There was a cartoon showing her talking to St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter says something like "You lived to 99 and everyone thinks you went too soon which says a lot about you..." Yes. Same.

Not being a viewer generally of the (vast) amounts of work White did, there was one role, something of an unusual one for her, in the sort of one in a decade horror-comedies, with a good cast playing it for fun, in 1990 there was Tremors, in 1999 a real favourite of mine 'Lake Placid', where White shone;
