Burlington decided they'd rather NOT go with Boutique Air and asked for a rebid. Queue Southern Airways Express.....

(and this was before a scathing piece in AIN about BTQ). I hope that airline right-sizes itself soon.... we're running out of Part 135 Scheduled airlines...

The comments to DOT from the BRL folks were savage enough.

Will 9X take the bait? Given Air Choice One had the contract until recently and lack of interline partners rather than poor service was their downfall, I'd say BRL may well get their wish.

Wow. Is this the first rejection for SkyWest Charters?

No. BRL is one of the smaller markets. I doubt SkyWest Charters will bid.

Scottsbluff and North Platte will be the first test. The issue there is whether SkyWest Charters is fully ready and able to bid. They should win if they do considering these markets held out specifically for OO.

It'll be interesting to see if the markets being rebid later in the year stick with them, especially if the current s**tshow continues. It's already nearly a year of chaos. There must be a point where some places think it's just not worth it. OO also made promises, e.g. codeshares, that they will need to honour, otherwise that may spell trouble for them.

Once enough of them fail, another sleazeball will come along with a pile of money to burn on a not profitable 135 EAS carrier. Always happens.

Appears OO cut PUB and VEL down to once per day. Looks like it may have happened on Oct 1. I thought they were making it work with two per day in each city, despite all the tags.

Once a day between VEL-DEN is perfect.

So Ft Leonard Wood looses its ORD flight for one that flies to DFW. Trying to find a schedule, how many flights are there between DFW and Ft. Leonard Wood?

DOT has selected Southern Express for Quincy, Illinois with routes to both STL and ORD beginning December 1, 2022

Source: https://www.regulations.gov/document/DO ... 14492-0121

Regarding Burlington, Iowa, both Southern and Cape Air (a rebid) put in proposals for Burlington, Iowa.

Both offer 24 weekly, with flights to STL and ORD.

Southern Proposal: https://www.regulations.gov/document/DO ... -8731-0150

Cape Air’s Proposal: https://www.regulations.gov/document/DO ... -8731-0149

Interesting that Cape Air can now continue to serve Burlington, Iowa!

Absolutely you can pull your intention to leave up until when the US DOT awards the new contract (or better before the community makes recommendation to avoid it getting too messy). SkyWest has absolutely done that with their large contingent of termination notices.

1x daily to DFW + 5x weekly to BNA

In several AEAS markets they serve (CEC and TUP spring to mind), they routinely add unsubsidised flights when demand warrants. It'll be interesting to see if they do the same here.

They could, but the community needs to agree.

An early sign Burlington is ready to move on to Southern perhaps?

Or a "return" of sorts of Air Choice One, except now with interline connectivity! URL appeared to be happy with Air Choice One, for the most part.

Btw how many pilots are on Cape Air's roster right now? Are they still hovering in the lower 50s?

Interesting observation today at KPAH. Contour has been selected to continue EAS service to Charlotte after SkyWest pulled out. Now, SkyWest has added a 1-stop Chicago/Paducah flight through Decatur. Hopefully SkyWest will continue service to Paducah even if it isn’t under an EAS contract.

That may be, but they are flying this route until 11/30. Maybe they are trying it out to see if it’s worth keeping.

This was to replace the CGI-PAH-ORD route that was currently being flown until SkyWest pulled out of CGI.

So instead of CGI-PAH, it is now DEC-PAH.

This is not a new or additional flight.

One flight is non stop ORD-PAH-ORD, and the other is ORD-DEC-PAH-DEC-ORD.

December 5th will be the last day, and Contour will take over December 6th.

You cannot even book a UA flight out of PAH on Dec 6th or forward.

For the markets due in January next year, Skywest has put a bid in for Houghton under traditional EAS. Nothing at Dodge City though. Wondering if they are going to bother at all.

Scottsbluff and North Platte are open for bidding until early November so a couple of weeks left for those 2.

I flew with Denver Air Connection last week on both their AIA and MCK turns from Denver. The crews told me they just acquired 2 more passenger Metroliners. While no mention was made of what KG would/could do with them, BFF and LBF would be excellent candidates.

1x daily to DFW + 5x weekly to BNA

In several AEAS markets they serve (CEC and TUP spring to mind), they routinely add unsubsidised flights when demand warrants. It'll be interesting to see if they do the same here.

Considering that TBN was EAS, how did Contour get away with flying DFW and BNA when the proposal was Twice Daily to BNA?

I don’t see any filings for the change. AEAS, I understand it is not necessarily, but this is EAS.

Interesting the money didn't change even though the stage is longer. Ticket price is the same, so they either was to rotate some planes thru DFW and/or they think they can get more ticket sales on that leg (Which I would guess is true).

I had been searching each week for it.

Thanks for the link!

I had heard PAH had requested a split BNA/CLT but Contour had said No.

That was the speed of light by DOT standards! Still waiting for some of the comments from the OO markets 3-4 months later. I guess filing is pretty low down the priority list at DOT.

Interestingly, I heard Altoona wanted to swap PHL for CLT and Contour also allegedly said No. Although they didn't shut the door completely, but they did say it would require substantially more subsidies.

DOT has selected Southern Airways Express for PUB-Pueblo, Colorado.

Service on Southern is expected to begin by January 15th, 2023.

PUB originally declined due to the Single Engine Proposals. Southern's Proposal will use King Air 200, Two Engine to satisfy PUB's Requirement.

Giving 90 day notice to Kirksville. They don't really want to leave but want more money, which means they have to let everyone bid.

Southern promised to use a King Air at CDR and, after nearly a year and a half, they're still using a Caravan. Good luck with that, PUB.

Southern misrepresenting their intentions and taking years to follow through (ahem, interline deals)??? Say it isnt so. Shocking!

Southern Airways Express has submitted proposals for 3 of the Arkansas Cities for EAS.

Hot Springs: https://www.regulations.gov/document/DO ... -2935-0435

El Dorado/Camden: https://www.regulations.gov/document/DO ... -2935-0434

Harrison: https://www.regulations.gov/document/DO ... -2935-0436

Southern is offering DFW for all 3 cities, and Hot Springs and El Dorado is DFW/MEM...Harrison is DFW/STL, but Southern will offer MEM at the communities discretion.

They would have to add another aircraft and crew to be able to add CLT. It looks like AOO is being run with inside turns from the aircraft operating OGD and PBG.

ACE misspelled the word "fare" in their proposal.

All the bids were to DFW-Dallas/FT. Worth

I’d love to see Contour at MSS but have they completed the work on their runway, I seem to remember OO getting picked for MSS and then having to go back to Boutique because the runway couldn’t accommodate jets.
Also which Air Charter Express, the one out of Freight Runners or the weird semi-virtual one?

No, no. MSS is a Class II airport, which disqualifies scheduled operations for airplanes with more than 30 seats.

The Navajo operator based at RME.

Giving 90 day notice to Kirksville. They don't really want to leave but want more money, which means they have to let everyone bid.

To add to Jshank83, Cape Air also filed to terminate MWA and OWB with the same hope to renegotiate like IRK.

Going down the Boutique Air route then. And we all know how well that ended!

I expect Southern and Boutique to bid for MWA, Cape Air too, and Contour? I imagine Contour would go the AEAS route?

SkyWest may try to bid, as they did in 2019, but they still don’t have DOT approval for the SkyWest Charter.

MWA may just still want to go along with Cape Air anyway!

Dual engine will have the advantage. If southern doesn’t bid a dual engine I can’t see MWA waiving dual engines.

The Southern in Carbondale had a great article about the Cape Air Situation for IRK, MWA and OWB but focuses on the details surrounding MWA.

https://thesouthern.com/news/local/comm ... 4cac6.html

SkyWest: Skywest submitted a proposal for air service in Marion in 2019, but they have pulled out of many of their smaller airports, such as Paducah and Cape Girardeau. Kimmel said they wanted to get back into smaller markets, but they may not be ready to do that in January. They have to have the pilots and planes to offer service.

Cape Air Rebid: He added that this is also an opportunity for Cape Air to adjust their schedule of flights from the airport based on ridership. They may add new fights to Nashville or drop the Nashville flights based on the riders they have on their planes.

As someone who uses the Southern Illinois Region Air Service, I too am curious who will bid in addition to Cape Air.

So BFF, LBF, DDC and LBL have all filed for an extension to the bidding period.

I frankly doubt it's going to make much of a difference. OO Charters is clearly not ready and with OO admitting they need to cut flying by another 20%, we all know where the axe will fall. Time to wake up and smell the roses?

What is their alternative though? Single engine turboprop service on Southern? It’s a death nell to their airports’ marketing ability. It’s obvious why these communities are holding out until the very end in hopes OO comes through.

They need to start aggressively courting Denver Air Connection. DAC is in the process of adding additional Metroliners to the fleet and could at least offer twin prop service in the interim. Post deregulation, BFF was mostly a 19 seater destination. At times, it was served by Dash 7s, EMB-120s, and B1900s with only 9 seats — but overall, 19 seats was the norm.

They’ve been spoiled with the 50-seat jet and don’t want to lose it, but it is time to realize that it isn’t sustainable and begin courting the next best thing.

Is this the Freight Runner's Air Charter Express (ACE), or someone else with a similarly generic name? The logo is 5th-grade design quality.

They can court anyone they want to, but without pilots to fly the planes, it isn’t going to make any difference.

A reliable turboprop operation has got to be better than the current s**tshow OO is offering. Because one a day tagged, if you're lucky, is doing damage to their marketing ability too. If you read Laramie's submission to DOT, folks are now driving down to Denver because it's nearly quicker than take the poor excuse of a service from OO, which operates via BFF (when it operates at all).
