No More Video Safety Demos On NW?

Thu Jul 11, 2002 1:24 pm

I brought this topic up a couple months ago, but was told that they were probably just having trouble w/ the video eqp. on board. I took 3 Northwest flights yesterday (DC10 and two 757s) and all three flights didn't have the safety video. Was this part of the cutting back post 9/11?

Northwest is being as frugal as they can while improving passenger safety and comfort. They figure why do you need a TV when they already supply a magazine, and you can bring a CD Player on board. If you cannot go that short without TV, then you should not fly. With a Car you can stop at Harry's Truck Stop and go into the little smoky theater. I praise Northwest for doing this. Saving Money, and improving passenger safety and comfort

Um, could you run that by us in English BR715? They aren't improving safety by doing the manual demo because statistics show passengers pay MORE attention to the video demo than the manual demo...think about things before you respond so confidently...

I haven't seen the videos used since some time last October on the 755/6's.. Can't speak for the DC-10's. A few months ago, I asked a flight attendant about it, and she said that they needed everyone's attention when they did the safety demo, and they couldn't get it via the TV's.. Plus, I think that some people sat too far away from the TV's to see the video clearly.

Videos will be returning to the 757 fleet soon. The reason they are currently not showing them is because they are in the process of installing new video systems. The new systems include new players and the fold down LCD screens from the overhead units.

I believe they are showing the videos on the DC-10, but I cannot say for certain. NW is in the process of upgrading their inflight products.
