Emirates Delays US Launch

According to Justplanes.com, Emirates has pushed back the date for it's US launch.

Emirates now plans non-stop Dubai-New York in April 2004 instead of June 2003. Non-stop to San Francisco will be delayed till Summer 2004 instead of October 2003.

Is this because the delay of the delivery fo A340-500?

This might also explain EK's plan to operate 345s n/s to Sydney. It's apparently going double daily from October.

I wonder if other routes might be brought forward.

Probably due to the possible war with Iraq. SFO is an interesting route nonetheless.

i guess that means US citizens are the most frightened to travel abroad..Apparently the rest of the world is just fine with transitting DXB in order to transverse continents and Emirates just continues expanding offering, excellent connections between 4 continents(Australia is a continent, isnt it?)

I think the fares will be more reasonable from USA to Middle east.. Transitting Europe can be pricey!

We'll look forward to 2004 with EK's arrival

Rjnuet: It works both ways. US citizens are frightened to travel to the middle east and people from the middle east are frightened to travel to the US.

Presently only Malaysia Airlines has a direct link between the USA and the mid east right?

As I remember, RJ flies the ORD-DTW-AMM sector on the A340. unless the A310 goes ORD-AMS-AMM.

Does SV still ops to MCO?

No Saudi Arabian isn't flying into MCO right now (plus its a summer only service eventhough last summer it was not operated).

How about Turkish?

They fly to ORD and JFK to IST.

One could even stretch and rope in AT (Royal Air Maroc) JFK-Casablanca 3 times a week.

I thought YYZ and ORD were the second phase destinations?IMO,it would make sense to serve one or the other.

Although Morocco is a muslim country I do not think it fits in with the middle east...

Dunno if this is off topic or has been discussed b4, but y San Francisco? Is it 2 read 2 much into it 2 think about maybe a US partner, ie United? Then it brings up the whole alliance thing again cus there was somethin in the Sunday Times about BA trying 2 get Emirates into oneworld.

IST is continentally, operationally, and despite what most Western Europeans would like to believe, ideologically not in the Middle East but rather in Europe.

In terms of air transport from North America, I think IST is identical to ATH (service to JFK and ORD on the respective national carrier + JFK service by Delta) DL at least considers IST to be a European destination, as do all European based airlines.

I would therefore not include TK's North American service in this list.

Not to get into a debate on where Turkey is or thinks they belong is not worth it here. However, 90% of the country is in Asia and in my opinion is as much in the Middle East as Egypt. IST is in Europe, but it is close enough.

Brings up another point on Morocco. I am not suggesting the Morocco is in the Middle East (hence why I put it at a strectch), however in most Arab countries the believe the Middle East starts in Morocco, down to Mauritania, go east across North Africa to include Sudan and Djibouti, up to Syria across the Arabian pen to the Iranian border with Iraq. Some do include Iran, but since they are not Arab speakers and Shiite muslims, many don't inlcude them.

Just an observation.

Yep,JFK is via LHR and ORD is via AMS . 777's & A340-300's are used.
