New AA XNA-LAX Service

Mon Jun 23, 2003 6:14 pm

Has anybody else noticed this, AA Eagle will start nonstop service out of XNA to LAX after Aug 5 using a CRJ 700, total flight time over 3 hrs. I just saw it on the webpage since a friend is flying out to LA to visit, never saw a press release, mid am departure westbound, and then a noon departure eastbound.

If TUL-LAX didn't work, what makes them sure this route will? Every route flown by every airline greater than 700 miles has failed at that airport (Remember the XNA-EWR service back in 1998 or 1999? It last a few months).

Wal-Mart employees aren't going to be enough to make that route profitable. Look for it to close in less than 4 months.

Here is the schedule

AA3210 XNA 0900-1029 LAX CR7 (X6)
AA3209 LAX 1230-1740 XNA CR7 (X6)

The aircraft will be running on a DFW-XNA-LAX-XNA-DFW, since all the CR7s are based out of DFW.

I also noticed that two of the XNA-DFW flights have been upgraded to F-100s, giving XNA 6 daily mainline flights from AA (2 to DFW, 4 to ORD). The airport really has grown tremendously after the closure of the former Fayetteville Airport; services to New York (both LGA and EWR), Houston, Minneapolis have all started, RJs are replacing props on the STL, ATL, and DFW (DL) runs, and mainline flights now exist too. Not too shabby.

There are significant numbers of clothing/swimwear/accessory manufacturers in Los Angeles that deal with WalMart. I suspect the route will do very well.

Amazing that a "smaller" airport in Arkansas can support such a flight, yet no such flight exists from the largest city in the state (Little Rock).

The Power of Wal-Mart, indeed!

Wal-Mart employees themselves don't make the majority... it's all of those calling on Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart's headquarters has huge areas to hold them, with dozens and dozens of small conference rooms off the lobby for sales calls. However, in typical Wal-Mart style, visitors are met by a greeter, wait on metal folding chairs, and pay for coffee.

So it is a lot like flying these days, when will they know that they are no longer on the plane, sounds like the same level of service.

The eastbound flight from LAX to XNA connects to the XNA-LGA flight, quite nicely, so now one can fly coast to coast on AA Eagle using their convenient NW Arkansas HUB! LOL!((Hell, I'd do it, as my sign-in name would suggest!)

Sadly, the flight times seems to be geared more to folks travelling FROM Bentonville than TO Bentonville. Most folks would take a connecting flight if they could leave on the afternoon/evening after their meeting rather than wait until the next morning.
